Given up on owning defect free monitor

Not sure Asus are much better, I've had 3 panels and all had pretty back backlight bleed. Bottom-right corner seems to be the biggest issue on the MG279Q for some reason.

Got some in the top and bottom right of my XF270HU but if you want this kind of panel you have to put up with some shortcomings, it isn't enough to annoy me. If you are the kind that doesn't like any backlight glow/bleed then you should just get a TN with worse colours but better blacks and some shifting. I'd never spend over £400 on a monitor like these because you know you'll have to put up with some of these characteristics which I fail to accept over this price point.

Deary me

Maybe OCUK should just stop stockin' 'em until Acer sort out their QC. High RMA rates can't be good for anyone...

Don't think it is entirely Acer/Asus' fault but more along the lines of AUO thinking it's okay to send poor panels out, if Acer/Asus sent them back and told them it isn't good enough maybe they'd stop sending dodgy units out.

I've got three Dell UltraSharp monitors and they are all perfect. I'll never buy another brand of monitor in the future because the UltraSharps are so good. I don't need any of those fluff features like G-sync or 144Hz I just want a really high quality professional monitor.

You are the kind of person that the UltraSharps are aimed at, brilliant monitors but G-Sync/Freesync and 144hz is a must for many of us.

I'm more inclined to say it's more the IPS panels in recent years.

I've had to go through 3 pg348q's to find one that was acceptable. Even the one I had (recently replaced) I had to resort to turning down the brightness and gaming with the light on so the bleed didn't put me off.

The same I tested 3 pg279q IPS 165hz monitors and returned two due to dust and one due to bad bleed, in the end I just got fed up.

All the other monitors including my recent z35p (va), pg278q (TN) and before that pb278q have been absolutely fine with no issues.

I've also had to return 2 pg278q due to thunder flies we get badly where I live. Both came back with 0 issues.

Got my X34A, Goes to 100Hz, No dead pixels, Glow/Bleed looks really bad on camera but not too bad to the naked eye, Will post a pic soon.

So how is this guys? I can see the bottom left part against black easily.

Assuming it is at a normal brightness setting, probably more like this:

And like I keep telling everyone, backlight bleed (will never disappear no matter what angle you view it from) is a FAULT, there should not be any whatsoever (at a normal brightness level) and if you notice it, then return it, if the retailer says it is "normal" then you use your CCR rights to return it within 14 days of purchase.

Best way to take photos of monitors for bleed/glow purposes it to either shoot a video and then take a snapshot of that or, use these settings:

such a shame lcd tech , not much has changed from my last lcd which was returned 9 years (sony x4500) ago to my current asus pg348q soon to be sold :D . They all still seem to be plagued with the same issues , if the world was a better place the only two techs that would be around now and affordable for all would be oled and plasma :)

Yeah I can't wait to get rid of all the LCD displays in my house hold, they really are pure ****, even if you get a "good one" compared to plasma and OLED

Is this any good or bad? It has a couple of black dead pixels top left corner...

Do you think I should return it because of the dead pixels? You don't really see them... But as you know I could get an even worse X34A..

Is there any good monitors you would recommend or coming out soon in the ultrawide format?

Right now for 34" 1440 g/free sync.... imo, not really as they are all far too over priced for that what they are but if you don't care and just want a 21.9 monitor then probably worth while checking out the acer/aoc 34" 1440 120HZ VA screens or just keep RMA/CCR'ing the x34 till you get a non-faulty one. Or you could wait for the 200HZ HDR FALD 34" 1440 monitors but they will cost even more and possibly have its own issues.

Thing with these VA's is that they are full of smearing/Ghosting/input lag as well though that's why I took a chance with the X34A.

The acer/aoc 35" VA monitors have very low input lag.

Smearing/ghosting, probably still the case with bright objects on dark backgrounds etc. but if you want more or less no guarantee of backlight bleed or/and severe IPS glow, unfortunately it is your only choice.

You need to buy a Pro IPS 4K monitor and not a gaming monitor !

Gaming monitors are mass produced hence the low quality ! From my experience buy one that is aimed at Photographers and has a 5ms response and is IPS and 9 times out of 10 you will not get this bleed !

Wow, this is making me nervous as I'm about to buy a new 28" G-sync monitor and had no idea things were this bad, my current one is an Asus 23" 120Hz 3D monitor I got from OcUk in 2011 which to this day still has no blb or dead pixels. What happens to all the rma's when they eventually get back to the manufacturer? repacked & sent out as new I wonder?

I will only buy Dell from now on. I only avoided Dell in the past because of their higher prices, but Asus and Acer think they can charge the same for inferior products.

Will review the situation as and when new tech comes out.
