I get the feeling this is gonna be a kong and Godzilla fight each other for a few mins then they both team up together to fight a different enemy.

Seen this sort of thing happened all too often in marvel and dc stuff.

If you're looking for a nuanced plot I think the big punch up between the Monkey and the lizard isn't the film for it.

Just finished watching it. Not a great film per se but it's intended to be more of a spectacle and the monster action delivers so a worthy watch overall.
