Golf Thread

I have contemplated joining a golf club, but not sure I'd utilise it enough to warrant the outlay, so I just pay as I go.

I know there has been talk about a possible golf meet, but it hasn't materialised so far, or not that I'm aware.

Cool, yeah a golf meet could be interesting indeed, I am currently contemplating joining a club also…….used to be a member of one for about 5 years when I was younger and really enjoyed it.

Been a bit of a nightmare at my golf club recently. Had one day where it was pretty much completely waterlogged, then the next day it was completely frozen with frozen greens - pretty hard to land any approaches.

Managed to get down from 24 handicap (my first handicap) to 14 handicap last year, and looking to get my handicap down to single figures this year. Currently awaiting a set of custom fit Mizuno MP54s which I ordered in late December, which will hopefully help me get the handicap down after using some old black dot Ping i3s with original shafts (over 10 years old) since I started playing!

Thats great work on reducing your handicap by 10 shots in a year! Be interesting to see how you get on with those new irons too.

Im hoping to get down to 14 this year too currently at 16.5 only been playing a couple years though so theres still time

Apologies, I genuinely meant no offence.

Hey, seriously no offence taken :)

Nice swing too! Very Luke Donald :D

Just got my new irons, brand new, but got them at a bargain price as they're last years model.

How do you like the cleveland classic hybrid?

No idea, I have 3 Titleist 910 woods under those headcovers.

I wasn't keen on the latest Titleist reverse cart bag, so I opted for this Cleveland one and bought the Cleveland headcovers for continuity :o

played the championship yesterday on frosty ground. Was loving the extract distance on my drive, best was 270.

Who else has been braving the cold?

It's not the cold that's the problem at the moment, it's the constant rain! Our course was shut again today and it's not looking hopeful for tomorrow either...

Where's the championship?

Our course has been shut again, been shut for a fair bit of January. Good job they invested in an indoor golf simulator, yeah, we have to pay £30 an hour (though you can book it for £15 an hour for just practice, should be good for warming up before some of our board comps!), but split between a 4 ball it isn't much and we can have a good afternoon booze up at the same time as playing golf on a few championship courses in a nicely heated room! :-)

Still waiting to get my first round of the year in due to all this rain we have had

Managing to get to the range on almost a weekly basis to keep the swing going and try to get to grips with a new driver (Cleveland Classic XL which I picked up for a bargain a couple weeks ago) before the first round of the year

Our club is severely affected by the weather at the moment. It was closed for a week a few weeks back, but has only been open as an 11 hole course since the beginning of December.

That is the problem with having a membership somewhere. You're paying for membership of an 18 hole club for the year but you're not going to be able to play 18 holes all of the time and some other days you won't be able to play at all.

I try to pretend that I'm paying the membership for the Spring, Summer and Autumn and just forget that winter golf even exists :p

So the dreadful weather continues...

I've played 18 holes (2x9holes) in the past 4 weeks and it's not looking good for this weekend either :(

On the plus side it's given me a chance to really work on my swing at the range, although it's costing me a small fortune hitting a few hundred balls 4 times a week!

I've been working on keeping my right elbow in the last few sessions. Seems to be paying off at the range, but we'll have to see what happens out on the course :D

Anyone here a 'Slicefixer' (Geoff Jones) \ Dan Whittaker follower ? I've been spendng the winter rebuilding my swing with the Slicefixer setup and fundamentals and my ball striking is already feeling more consistent and improved.

Has anyone had a bash with one of these SwingByte thing's yet? Info here.

My friend bought one and let me have a play with it at the driving range on Tuesday evening. He was able to email me the results and it gives such a useful insight into what is going on in your swing.

Take a look at mine here:

Driver and 6 iron.

Look at the info it has given me on my driver in respect of the shaft lean at impact. Shows how much I'm hitting down into the ball when I shouldn't be. One guess as to what I'll be working on at the range tonight! :p To be fair with that swing though, I was trying to hit it as hard as I could as we were having a man competition as to who could get their swing speed the highest, so maybe the results were a bit distorted with that :p

Seriously considering investing in one of these now. I'm sure they have their limitations, but there must be a lot of good to come from them too.
