As in Ebay for a used set you mean? Just going to get a 7 iron to begin with, seen a used one on Ebay for £20 delivered which is +1".

Checked that Ping size guide, they say +1" for 6'4 - 6'7 and I'm 6'4 and a bit. At what position do you measure your wrist to the floor though?

I've been using my friend's regular length irons so far and they do feel short, he's 5'11.

Sorry, just noticed this. It's from the crease on your wrist to the floor in your golf shoes. You will need somebody to do it for you.

My fitted titleist 714 AP2's and 913F 4 wood arrived yesterday.

I went straight down to the range with them and my god, they're stunning.

NOW THIS IS GOLFING WEATHER! I should definitely be out playing golf rather then sitting in the office :( Fingers crossed tomorrow brings the same. Bring on the monthly Stableford!

Just been out for a round up at Came Down near Dorchester, had a stinker on the first 3 holes, 9 (par4), 5 (par3) then 8 (par4) got my head back in the game scored 34 stableford points and went round in 101. Considering I have a 28 handicap I got 3 pars, 3 7's but mainly +1+2's on most holes. I've put my driver back in the bag and now I am using my RBZ 3 wood for all long tee shots, hitting it about 230-240 yards so over the moon. Just annoys me how I can't do that with a driver but oh well 3 wood goes long enough for now. Over the moon with today just need to do it more consistently and I'll consider entering tournaments .

So I recently took up golf again having given up 6 years ago after a year and I'm buzzing. Had an hour lesson this time which helped loads, then I booked 4 x 1/2 hour lessons, had 2 of them so far and it's made one hell of a difference. Still have a lot of practice to do but it's slowly coming together now, some good shots, some bad. Even teeing off with the drive is good, I actually struggle with my 3 wood for some reason.

Going to hit the new Taylormade Mini driver next week, i prefer to hit a 3 wood off the tee so this should really work for me i think.

What did you think of it?

I've really shown my backside with my driver now and am considering taking it out of the bag to stop me being tempted to give it a chance.

My golf game has been strange recently. I've been hitting some of the purest shots of my life with my woods and irons, but around the greens where I've always been 'ok' has just gone to pot.

I think I'm through the worst of it at least.

Ok, struggling with my 3/4 iron, I hear most people use a hybrid/rescue instead these days, is that correct and how do I choose best loft for me. I'm a beginner if that helps.

Playing Mere next week. Anyone played it here? Any tips?

Not expecting a great deal, really can't put the time and effort in for practicing at the moment. I'm at the point where I'm leaving driver and 3 wood out of the bag as they get me in too much trouble off the tee.

The 3 iron is 21 degree and the 4 iron is 24 degree. Go into any golf store and they will let you have a smack on both of them. The only thing I find is the jump between 5 iron and 4 hybrid is there's about 30 yards difference. I would definitely recommend getting one though.

It's fantastic, i actually only hit it yesterday and bought it. On the monitor my longest was 267 yards which is about 40 yards further than a hit my X Hot driver.

I settled for the 14 degree model with a stiff shaft, on my bad shots it is still accurate enough to stay in play compared to my Callaway. It gets very low spin which is great so my slice is almost non existent now.

I stopped using my driver a couple of months ago and started using a 3 wood from the tee, i kept saying if only my 3 wood was a little bigger to hit from the tee it would be perfect.

Then Taylormade released this beauty and i knew i was going to buy it even before hitting it. All i can say is go hit it i dont think u will be disappointed.

I can now just hit this as hard as i can because i am so confident with it now that it will still be in play and give me a good chance for some points. The staff who was giving me the fitting told the club is flying out the window and people have really taken to it.

I can recommend Mere as a course to play, bit 'samey' for the first few holes, but the back 9 is quite good. The greens were like lightning, bunkers all nicely raked with a consistency of sand depth. Managed to win the longest drive too! 297yds with a borrowed Cleveland driver (I'd left my own driver at home as I'm a bit inconsistent off the tee at the moment with the long clubs).

Afternoon gents, first post in the golf thread. Just took golf up properly, after being a weekend golfer of sorts. Looking at a new set of clubs starting with irons. Local Calaway fitting day pretty soon, which I'm actually excited about for some reason. Definately caught the golf bug this season. The club I'm a member at are also holding a set of Calaway x hot irons with a stiff shaft (2013) model for me for £350 until the fitting day. Good deal?

Seems like a fair price, there is minimal difference between the new model of most golf clubs any way so 9/10 u get better value getting last years stock.

Well, I might not give up this game just yet. Using the same tactics as above played in the team comp last weekend, birdied SI 1,2,4 and 5! Quite a few pars and only one 7. Thankfully it wasn't individual medal also, as it don't want to be cut right before a board comp!:D

Played The London Club Heritage front 9 yesterday and it is looking great. Looking forward to watching the Volvo Champs there in October!

Really pleased to see Tiger Woods doing well today.

Loved Henrik Stenson snapping that wedge over his knee in anger, oh well :D

Rory McIlroy manages not to screw up a Friday round and finishes the day 12 under.

I'd like to see him win it, so hopefully he can keep things going over the weekend.
