Golf Thread

I've been pondering a visit to Precision Golf of late, currently using Bridgestone J40 irons with 5.5 ProjectX.
Local golf facility has Trackman and some other but they don't seem able to fine tune, will contact Precision.
Good to here you have had a good outcome.

Bought a set of Calloway XR at the start of last year and never really felt right with them. Turns out they're about 3 degrees too much lie angle..... Catching my heal too much pulling everything left.

Currently toying with going to the Ping fitting centre at Gainsborough GC - anybody had any experience of this place?

Saturday is edging closer, cant wait to get up to Celtic Manor for my TaylorMade fitting session and then a round on Roman Road course after. My mate is going to take some photos and I will bring back the results and what their fitter has worked out to be optimal for me! Genuinely can't wait!

Jesus. Played The Mere today in Manchester, lovely course but suffering a little bit from water logging. First 18 this year and first round in 2 months, feel like I've done 12 rounds with Tyson! Feet ache, legs ache, shoulders ache.

:D

Alex Ferguson has a house that borders the course, god there are some lovely houses there but easy in the multiple millions to buy! It's a shame also, I've played there a few times over the years and there were some lovely 18/1900's houses backing onto the course, and the majority have now been knocked down for new mansion style houses with loads of angles, grey slate roofs and rendered walls, it's really spoilt the feel of the place in my opinion!

Been playing every week all over winter and it's slowly warn me down, I've been hitting across the ball and it's been going left to right to the point recently where it goes off the course and I'm playing out the trees and bushes almost every hole.
Last night I went to a local course where the pro does supervised practice for an hour, £5 to cover range balls and I've never hit so straight.
Roll on the weekend. Wife bought me a night at Celtic with two rounds. Fingers crossed last night practice helped. Round booked Friday before to do a little more practice on the course first. :D

I can't help on the Ping fitting centre thing, but can you not just get the Callaway XR's adjusted to remove the lie angle? It would most likely work out a lot cheaper than a new set of bats.

This period of dry weather has really helped out my home course. Can't wait to get the new season under way.

I have managed the grand total of 2 rounds on the 9 hole practice course at my club this year, but need to get a bit more golf played before heading to The Belfry with esK in a few weeks time

Par for the practice course is 31 (4 x par 4, 5 x par 3)

First round I played 1 ball for the full 9 holes and from the 3rd hole I played a second ball so got 7 holes with that ball

Scores were

Ball 1 (9 holes) = Level par (31)
Ball 2 (7 holes) = -4 (20)

The second round I played 2 balls for the full 9 holes

Ball 1 = -1 (30)
Ball 2 = +2 (33)

Early days yet for the season but it is good short game practice so hopefully that form will continue over into full rounds

Which waterproof trousers.

I would get a pair of galvin green alfs but I am inbetween sizes and also i want belt loops. I know GG are the best but what else comes close?

Thanks

If you have a nike outlet anywhere near you have a look in - I got a great waterproof set for around 100 down from 250+ which stood up well to torrential rain a couple of weeks back!

Loved the par 3 tournament last night, right in the mood for the masters now!

Been testing/fit a few times recently for new irons. Last year I took a punt on a few bargain used sets with varying results but I've managed to move them on with a small profit :D

Play off 12, always had a smooth swing borderline between a Reg and stiff.

It's down to three sets at the moment.

a) Ping i E1, I like the feel of these and the two shafts that I like most are the (Nippon) AWT 2.0 and Modus Tour 105. I would happily game these but both shafts launch way too high, the other options available I didn't get on with.

b) Callaway Apex CF16, I got a full fitting at the St Andrews national centre, didn't quite fall in love with them on the day but had a follow up session with another retailer with the same spec. Take home from this was that I was gaining about 15 yards with the custom spec over my off the shelf old Apex iron.

c) Srixon z545. These again launch like missiles due to the strong lofts but they feel great and the Nippon 980 shaft really worked well. I can't order a AW from the UK will need to look into options abroad if I want to fill the gap with the set wedge. Really impressed with these, and I'm quite partial to going against the mainstream.

Decision time this weekend

Almost feel like the masters is already won with a statistic like this and Speith at 6 under. The only person to end day 1 in the lead that was looking to defend the masters was Jack Nicklaus who went on the win it again. Genuinely rooting for McIlroy this year as it would be great to see another Career Grand Slam!

Anyone got any bets on at all?

Got a few guys done, Lowry, Mcilroy and GMac.
Also did Kaymer and Fowler but they look to be sunk.
I did get Rory in our Pro Shop sweep so fingers crossed he can do it.
