Had my clubs yearly masters comp yesterday came 2nd with 41 stableford points been cut to 20.3 exact I am so chuffed right now! Dropped 8 shots this year since Feb. Won a £55 voucher for the pro shop and got a nice little trophy for the comp that I won to qualify.

Decided that it's time to get kitted out with some new year. Went out to try the Ping G30 range yesterday and was rather disappointed with them after also trying the Titleist stuff. Since I bought my R1 driver 2 years ago my swing speed has increased by almost 15 mph according to the launch monitor, I was carrying the 915 D2 driver 245 yards with a light stiff shaft with the shot dispersion all within 10-15 yards left or right of centre. Quite a difference from my R1, I was only carrying 220 and the shots were all going way left. Also tried out the new 716 AP1 and AP2's, really liked the AP1's, got a lovely draw on every single iron. Going back tomorrow to get properly fitted for the irons, and will probably end up buying a driver, 3w, 5w and 3hy to go with it....eeek!

Frustrating couple of competitions recently! 38 points in one and didn't drop anything from a 10 handicap. Then played Saturday and had 34 points yet got punished with 0.1 back. Feel like my handicap should be coming down yet the system is beating me at the moment :(

Playing poorly at the moment - struggling to break 100 on a course I have been as low as 88 before!!

No confidence in my ball striking and my putting is leaving a lot to be desired!!

Have November off work so hopefully conditions allow me to get out a fair bit then!

Just got back from Turkey, unbelievable golf out there and the night golf is a must try experience.

Brilliant week away

Made my Titleist order :)

Now awaiting my new 915 driver and 3 wood, 816 hybrid and AP1 716 irons :D

258y carry on my driver and 179y on the AP1 7 iron, pow!

Oh tasty lot right there fergie, will have to upload some pics once you receive your order! I for one will be interested in seeing it all :)

After shooting 28 stableford points in 16 holes on Saturday, I had my first round of winter league yesterday and scored 43 stableford points. Strange game isn't it :p One little tweak in the swing and it couldn't have changed the results any more.

Apparently I came 2nd on the day which is quite unbelievable. Someone also shot 43 points but beat me on the countback...! I shot +2 gross on the back 9 which really isn't easy.. +5 overall playing off 12. I suspect I'm going to be docked a shot for the rest of the winter now.

Don't think changes in winter carry forward to the summer though, anyone able to advise on this?

I'd be very surprised if winter leagues follow through to your summer handicap. I know at my club winter is completely separate due to winter tees and greens giving you only a % of your normal handicap.

Yeah I'd have thought not. Winter tees shorten the course substantially and there is also lift and replace in fairways. I guess I'll soon find out how badly they want to hurt me :(

Had my heart broken today, went to my local AG between job interviews and decided to give the 716 AP2s a hit an I wont lie I lost nearly 30 yards off of my current 7 iron. I genuinely couldn't get them to perform for me I was chuffing gutted.

I ended up giving the Taylormade PSi irons a go and I had them custom fitted 3/4" longer, KBS Stiff shaft and 3 degrees up and I gained 20 yards on my current 7 iron. The ball flight was lower, easier to hit in my opinion too. My local AG now has a GC2 HMT over their old system which pleased me. I prefer to use GC2 or Trackman although Trackman is better outdoors.

As a treat the guy let me try the new M1 I lost 10-15 yards on my current SLDR which shocked me a bit, They then tried the Kuru Kage shaft on me and for some reason I was getting over 4k RPM spin yet my SLDR only had 2.2k Spin. The guy wants me to go on a Trackman as he is determined to get my spin model correct he even suggested the possibility of a X-Stiff shaft as my swing speed was near 107 MPH as it might reduce my spin which even I thought was a bit strange I thought X-Stiff were for players over 110 mph.

The rbz I currently have are 30.5 and the psi is 31.5 loft. Same shaft length as they measured them to match and checked that against my height/arm length etc.

I had to add an extra wedge into my bag once I started using my AP1 716's. PW for the set is 45 degrees compared to 48 for my old Pings. I've gained about 20y distance on my PW because of this haha. Stuck in an 48 degree Vokey to make up the gap between PW and GW (52). In other news, I've had 4 wins in the past 6 weeks! :D

2 wins at the weekend! Monthly stableford on Saturday with 39 points. Won on count back but didnt expect 39 to win it. Then won joint win in the swindle with a shocking 33 points in the strong winds.

Did anyone go to the London Golf show this weekend? What did you think of it?

Have had an interesting year. Due to work, I've spent half the year spending at least a night each week at the Belfry which has allowed me to get a decent number of rounds in mostly on the PGA National but also a handful on the Brabazon.

This has meant that when I then went and played on shorter easier courses, I've been killing them with multiple rounds this year in the high 70s.

I've also worked out a weird kink with my swing that was resulting in me hitting a lot of shots out of the heel which on MP68s isn't a good plan. I have simply changed my ball address to line up the ball with the toe which now has me hitting out of the middle, with obvious benefits of greater distance and accuracy. I found this out simply by using masking tape on the heads when at the range.

Anyway, bottom line is a year-ending handicap of 11 and a very happy golfer :)

Last round was at Pedham Place in 70 yard visibility. This is the 18th - a 136 yard par 3.

Bit different at our course. There is a white board on a tree about 400 yards from our clubhouse. If you cant see it from the clubhouse then the course is closed. This is because if anything happens to any then no one is insured.

Im suprised at 11 handicap your using mp68's I'm off 10 regularly shooting in the mid singles and I dont feel im ready for blades yet

Went to the Ashbury and Manor Hotel in Devon last week. Incredible value for money.
It's a golf hotel with 7 course (techincally 4) on it, which are all free and long. Cart hire was only 8 quid per day.
The rest of the facilities are great too, but the hotel itself is very dated, but since your out all day that doesn't/shouldn't bother you.

Course are well kept and have a network for roads to drive the carts around.
Rained a lot so got very muddy, but was lots of fun.
