Golf Thread

Got back from holiday and played pretty well felt as though i didn't deserve the scores i got but my short game was so good, think i only 3 putted twice all holiday :)

Anyone watching the WGC Invitational? I've got a bet on Marksaeng e-w at 100/1 - I had a really weird dream that ended up with him winning it.. Don't ask how, I just did. Checked the scores after R1 and he was 2nd on -4, he's now 4th on -4 (he was -7 at one point )

We have a golf day coming up at work, havnt played since I was a kid, I won a few comptetitions :) My low point tho was getting golf rage and chucking my 9 iron in the pond. Got banned for 2 weeks. Went downhill from there. lol!

I was a kid back then though, now its time to mingle with the business types :)

Guys i did something bad yesterday - I threw my club :o.....sorry :(

I was slicing so bad it got annoying and i just saw red and went RAWR!!! and off it went :(

Got a golf lesson at 1pm today so i hope to god the guy can help me out :(

How you finding the Cameron?

I wasnt sure if you was asking me??

If you was, then here is my reply, if you wasnt then sorry :D

I use Scotty Cameron Futura, Mallet head putter, I Love it and would not change it for the world.
I have been having quite a few lessons with my local pro (Happens to be the ENGLAND Mens squa coach) :) and i have probably asked every question there is about putters, putting and putting stroke and the one thing he advised me is that Putting is soo personal.
So for me the Cameron is awesome, for someone else it could be terrible :)

I shot my lowest ever score today (77) gross, previously it was 80, drove ok, irons were ok but my short game and especially putting was bang on, was so pleased, felt about 8ft tall walking off the 18th green :)
One problem, one of the guys i was playing with is on the Match and Handicap committee !!........ my current handicap is 21, so i shot a net 56....lol
He said i'm getting cut :D

@Andrew
How did your lesson go yesterday, any joy on combating the slice ?

I'm a former serial slicer so i know how it feels :(

Talking of throwing clubs, i lean't my brother one of my clubs to try a while back, he hit a massive slice, threw it at his bag and it snapped in half !!!

Not happy....lol

If it was in a qualifying match you will definately be cut! IIRC to the tune of 0.3 for every shot below your handicap.

So 15 below your handicap, therefore 15 x 0.3 coming off, so expect to be cut to around 16 pretty soon ;)

It went well mate, he explained to me why its happening and then we worked on fixing it. I no longer dip down my left shoulder and i swing with a much 'wider' arc and with my arms away from my chest instead of touching my chest.

I still slice 'slightly' it doesn't go perfectly straight yet - he said all i need to work on atm is rolling my hands over when i come down - if you get me.

edit: sod it, its raining but im going to go round the course by myself :p

That slight 'slice' you are refering to sounds more like a little fade to me, which is perfectly acceptable. Don't worry about perfectly straight mate, almost all golfers play with either a slight draw or fade. There are very few out there, including the pros, who hit the ball dead straight.

Regarding the rolling the hands, I get you, that's the release. If you play racquet sports, you can practise this by playing topspin shots. It is a similar motion, rolling the wrist over to engage the spin, which is the effect it will have on the golf ball if you get it right. :)

Also, during my last lesson I was also told to half swing, then really exagerate the finish (club high, looking right at the target, with right knee pointing at it and heel well off the ground), and this would help me get a feel for the release, and come through the ball better. It really does seem to have improved things for me, and I now hit the ball farther too, with less effort.

Yeh thats the word i forgot the 'release'

Gah i went to play today - did one hole then left :o

Grated it did start to rain but still i should have stuck it out and kept playing, i think i need some more time at the range first as on the course if i do a bad shot i get stressed out however at the range i know why i did that kind of shot so i get to correct it next time. A couple of times at the range then going to go round with some friends later in the week i think.

Gah golfs a hard game

*Cracks open beer* :p

Does it annoy any of you guys when people say 'what a geek why would you play golf its a rubbish game' 'its well easy why not play something hard like football'

I nearly lamped the guy that said the last comment what a git :p

I've never heard anyone say that because I don't socialise with idiots :p

One thing that annoyed me watching the golf on Sky yesterday (which was unbelievable. What I'd give to be able to hit a ball like they do, apart from Harrington into the water :p), is when as soon as someone hits the ball everyone shouts "GET IN THE HOLE!!!". It used to be funny after I'd heard it on Tiger Woods games on the PS2, but when they do it on every single shot, its ridiculously annoying...

I find most people that say that go to the range and wallop balls, with 1 in 20 going past 150 yards and 1 in 50 going anywhere near straight/inside the width of a fairway.

Then when you take them on the course, they realise that its all about control and all those wayward shots that they thought they were amazing for, were actually landing 2 fairways over or in the trees.

wow you managed to get them on the course, they always make up and a reason not to go on the course when i try :p

Grated with my slicing issue at the moment they would proberly beat me
