Golf Thread

Off to Celtic Manor in the morning. myself a 7 others
playing all three courses.
Montgomery tomorrow
2010 Friday
Roman Road Saturday

Anyone been recently? Weather looks amazing for a golfing break.

Update from my Pro regards my i210 order (may 18th!!)

Basically - can't get the steel/shafts at the moment. (DG120 stiff) - True Temper are struggling to get steel/raw materials for the shafts due to backed up supply chains , less workers , higher prices etc

Best estimate is 17th September for the shafts so end of September for delivery - but again - take that with a pinch of salt....

Nothing can be done just now - might have to buy a new driver to tide me over.....

So

Ordered -
G425 Max Driver
Hand: Right, Loft: 10.5, Shaft Flex: Stiff, Shaft: Tensei AV RAW Orange 65

£399 - topcashback via Jamgolf 9.9% back - £40 cashback.
Less £258 already in my topcashback account = New driver for £102

Man Maths....:cry::cry: - Should be here tomorrow. Dispatch email and tracking within 15 minutes of ordering!

Please leave a review :) i am so tempted by this driver for the level of forgiveness it offers. I pulled the plug on a 2nd hand F9 speedback this week, but already i am like, i should have just got a 425.

will do....

I have the 3 wood with the same tensei shaft - love it. Very forgiving, off the deck or tee seems very good. Can't fault it so far....

Averaging 249 yards versus my old 3 wood which was 230 yards.

Just do some man maths like me and justify buying it! (like I say - Jamgolf have 9.9% cashback via topcashback currently, tracked immediately)

Did you look into Scotsdale? They're still advertising same day build so unsure how they can do this if there is a delay on supply.

On a side note. My 6 year old i25s are going back to ping after my golf break for a free "freshen up". New re-weighting and face blasting to bring them back to life. Also getting Ping to re-grip my irons for me whilst they're there.
such excellent service by ping for such old clubs.

yeah - put my spec in - got this

FOR JANUARY 2022 DELIVERY - lol

Double check before sending your clubs back to ping that they have the grips in stock...otherwise you'll be waiting like the rest!!

Echoing what booyaka said.

I ordered new Cobra irons last week, got a phone call from the company saying they can't get the grips so I'll be waiting into October (which is annoying because they have the shafts!). Maybe double check with Ping before sending them off!

Scotsdale have "Janurary 2022" on the i210s which echo what the fitter said to me last week.

Decided to stick with me current setup, the 425 was great but no longer than my current Epic and although the dispersion was less not enough to drop £400 on one. The irons didn't impress me enough to get myself a set, it was more for validation on the fact that I do need X flex steel more than anything. I can get my current Pings made 2* upright at my course pro so I'll do that.

Bit of fun/times for a refresh....

WITB time (What's in the bag)

Lets see everyone's set up clubs/putter/ball etc. (add in any potential changes)

Driver - TM Superfast 2.0 (changing hopefully today to Ping G425 Max 10.5 tensei orange 65)
3 Wood - G425 tensei orange 65 set at 14.5 but might drop that a touch.
Rescue/Hybrid - 19 degree Cobra Speedzone stiff.
Irons - currently G10 4-PW stiff, 2 degrees upright (on order i210's)
Wedges - 52 degree vokey SM6, 60 degree Ping wedge
Balls - Snell MTB-x or Pro v1 - going to move back to Pro v1 next year.

Handicapp - 9.0 currently - probably a little on the low side if I'm honest - I feel like I more in the 11/12 range having just returned to golf this year after 5 years not playing.

WITB

Driver - Callaway Epic 8*,
4W - Cobra F9 Tour 16*,
3i - Srixon ZU85 21*,
4i-PW - Ping iBlade, Project X 6.5
50/54/58 - Titleist SM8
Putter - Ping Heppler Floki or Scotty Cameron Studio Design #5 depending on the course conditions
Balls - Titleist ProV1x (also rotate Bridgestone Tour BXS and TM TP5x)

HC is 8.5, going up which I'm fine with as I've had a few injuries this year so 6.7 at the start of the year wasn't realistic. Just going for consistency really, 100yds and in I'm erratic, putting is solid but not helped by my rubbish approach play, I have my yardages dialled in but it's the chunky/thinned/duffed chips that ruin me. Biggest issue is my blow up holes - was level par through 7 on Tuesday and hit an 8 on an easy Par 4, shocking.

No immediate plans to change anything, my inner northerner won't let me but irons will defo be the next change I do, just need to settle on what.

Putter - Odyssey O Works 7S

handicap 10.2

Not a member anywhere and play around 30 times a year. have been as low as 6 but that was when I was playing a lot more and at fewer courses.

Driver - Cobra F9 Speedback 9' degree, regular stock shaft. (new this week, always played with stiff shaft, previously)
3W - TaylorMade M2 15' degree, regular stock shaft. (new this week)
3i - Titleist DCI (super old from old set)
4i-SW- Mizuno JPX EZ Forged irons (2017 model)
58 - Titleist Vokey (i need a wedge set :( )
Putter - Odyssey Stroke Labs Three
Balls - Not sure yet, only been playing a month. At the moment i am using Volvik VIMAX Soft. I cant justify using a really decent ball until i have my swing path sorted as driving is a little sporadic at the moment.

Previously off 9 HC
HC today (unofficial) as i have not yet put 3 cards in. Getting down to single digits should be pretty realistic after not hitting a ball for 15+ years.

This weekend should be fun, entering the competitions with a 28 handicap :D Stableford

Funny old game - on average I 3 putt once every 25 holes......

three putted twice in back to back holes today! Then finished birdie, quad bogie, par, birdie!!

Crazy.

Driver was decent - off centre hits very very forgiving. Hard to say distance wise as only hit it 5 times this round.

"feels" a touch shorter than my old driver, need to check them side by side.

IS it me or is it a farcical that an end of season golf course should allow players to shoot -27/28 - Utterly ridiculous setup. Where's the "test" in a course that is like watching target golf. PGA Tour

Would like to get some feedback. Played my first competition yesterday as a new member of my local club. Went up to the bar opposite 18th had a drink and my wife phoned and said she was having labour pains (4 weeks before date). I panick and rush home.

Foolishly,In my panic I left my clubs by the clubhouse where everyone gathers and has a drink. I realised this morning and rushed up to find my bag had been put in the mens locker room.

However, my bag had been completely rifled through. All balls gone, yes understandable. However my new putter and 3 iron have gone and my new cobra driver now has all new sky marks as if someone had gone to town on it :(

I totally get it’s my fault. But do you think I should complain to the club?
