If all you want is an official handicap you can sub to iGolf by England Golf for £40 per year. Includes all the EG benefits a club member gets and can input scores from any course into the system to generate your index. I did this for 8 months before I joined my local.

Looking at a CT6 Power caddy - don't need gps version but like the idea of a small trolley when folded up.....
Just had a look at the price for the lols, £800! I think I'll just carry my clubs
I literally got a new motocaddy M1 DHC last week brand new for £580 folds up small, it has down hill control and also E brake. Nice trolley to be fair and its expensive sure but not too crazy. I remember comparing both brands and figure the DHC M1 was better value.I think the CT6 is around £600... I've got £100 on my account with the pro at the local shop from earlier this year finishing well in an Open, plus I've got a lovely Ping bag that I don't need that I won in a raffle so will sell that for around another £100/£120 etc so in fairness more like £400 or so.

Loving the man maths there
I guess coming into golf as a cheapskate is skewing things a bit, even if I do keep looking at things like £200+ woods/drivers, or upgrading my ancient Fenix 3 with a new Garmin Fenix and their club tags for like ~£1200
Today I went to the range in Bristol, well there's probably more than one so specifically the Bristol Golf Centre in north Bristol by the M32. First time using a range with shot tracking, and power tee, fancy Probably would help going when I'm not sore/day after a lesson when I can barely hit the ball tbh but kinda interesting nonetheless.
Whilst there I tried on some shoes at the American Golf (and looked at the fancy new clubs, want.) found a bit of an issue, I was all set to buy some proper golf shoes as I'm currently using 'trail running' type shoes which I'm occasionally noticing the lack of waterproofing but all the shoes I tried on weren't wide enough! I usually wear an 8.5-9 and tried on a Rife, Under Armour and Sketcher shoe in a size 9 and all were too narrow, the Sketcher was better but I still felt some pressure immediately in the mid-foot so no way that'd work for 4 hours of playing golf.
They had a footjoy measurement plate and according to that I'm a size 6.5 and extra extra wide which just seems so very wrong... I generally buy Asics trainers in a size 9 and they are slightly too long but not 2.5 sizes too long...
I know some brands do wide and even extra-wide but they didn't have any of those in stock to try and kinda wary of buying online and having to return it cause awkwardness... Gonna try a local place that I've been meaning to visit to see but does anyone have any thoughts on shoes?
Get a shotscope v3 for £139 - tags included - Don't bother with Garmin. Shotscope is literally the best thing I've bought in years for golf.... Could sell it for £300/£400 and it's still worth it.
Footjoy usually do wide/extra wide. Avoid Nike - always very narrow. I've got puma/UA ones and not had any issues with fit.
Yeah, a mate has the Shotscope and it's a bargain, my only real issue is that it's just a golf watch and nothing more. I've already got the Garmin Fenix 3 and use it for general smart watch stuff and Cycling/Running/Swimming (when I actually do any of that ) as well as Golf, but the golf is so very basic, hence being tempted. Really not sure I'll do it just for golf but I have already decided that if/when my Fenix 3 actually dies I will buy the latest Fenix or similar as a replacement so meh...
Been checking some stuff online and the local place I was talking about (Tony Valentine in Corsham) list various wide options so definitely gonna get out there and have a look in person.
Forgot one question though, spiked or spikeless, the guy at American Golf was pushing me towards spiked as we're heading towards winter, which I guess makes sense but not sure...
