winter work for me too is to try and hit the range at least once a week.
going to do some fitness work too as I'm getting older it's going to be tougher playing as much as I'd like too.

after 5 cards being put in so far my handicap is on 8.4. Personally in the wind and rain is not ideal to start working on my handicap
Honestly believe I'll settle between 9 and 11. happy with this as a Stella round would see me in the 70's where as a bad round is mid 80's.

Also I know everyone is scattered across the isle but I don't mind travelling if ever anyone wanted a game

I'd be up for a game somewhere, if the weather is not raining.

Here's my driver swing, will also take some criticism on this.

A bit more on plane, although I was hitting an inch or two above the grass as to not damage my lawn :p
Can you tell if I'm rotating my wrists better in this one? I feel I am as my finish position is more behind my neck.
I was hitting my driver nicely this morning, no left or rights today, all down the middle. Although my "game" swing isn't as quick as my practice swings, which were all about 235 yards total on each.

I think my winter plans are just to keep played :p might get a bit interesting with weather but we'll see, sounds like most of the group I play with keep playing over winter for the most part...

Usually I play Friday and Sunday however with the weather one guy dropped out, one guy is away on holiday, couple more have other commitments so wasn't looking good for Sunday so I decided to go out and do another 9 holes at the local course solo.

Overall I scored 54, matched my first round but had a mixed game generally and a few 3/4 putts. Happy with the first hole which is an awkwardly long ~530 yard par 5 which is tight with trees at the start which I use my 6 Iron (longest iron) to get towards the end of the trees but then it opens up but with 300+ yards still to go. Lost a ball and a couple of 'meh' shots but I got it in in an actual 8 (rather than a capped 8 previously).

But then, on the 5th hole, par 3, 154 yards, I tee up and grab my 6 Iron and do a really nice clean hit, line is completely on target, I see it bounce just before the green and a couple of small bounces on the green and it's rolling up towards the flag, then the ball just disappears... Even as I was walking up to it I'm trying to spot my ball in the longer grass at the back of the green cause surely that's where it ended up right? But no, I get to the hole, look in and there it is. A hole in one! Still kinda shocked now

Won doubles final today!

Weather was awful - nearly had to call it off around the 7th/8th as the greens started to flood but thankfully managed to continue. Close game all the way and we won 1up on the 18th...

Not bad considering me and my mate have only played together for 2 seasons and got the to final and lost last year, but revenge this year by winning.... Happy days.

Wow, congrats on the hole in one!!! Still waiting for mine :p

Amazing! This thread is full of good news recently, congratulations @booyaka!

Fantastic - Congrats...... No pictures?? Hope you've kept the ball.....

Amazing - had one in all the years I've played. My dad's played for nearly 60 years and never had one.

Didn't even think to take a picture tbh although surely it'd just be a picture of the ball in the hole, I get to that point on most holes eventually

I did keep the ball, I kept playing the rest of the round with it, does it deserve more reverence? :p

Yeah, it's kinda crazy that I've only been playing for <2 months and lucked my way into one, but also in thinking further that it's so revered, I certainly didn't plan on that happening I was just hoping to get it on the green off the tee, which in that respect I'm happy with the shot but the getting it in one is 'just luck' if that makes sense? On Friday someone chipped it in from just off the green, par 3 again but in 2 obviously for a birdie, to me that's a far more impressive shot/outcome as that's what he was actually aiming for :p

Haha - I kept the ball I holed in one with..... Got my mate to sign it - sits on my desk at home!

27/11/2005 - Nearly 17 years ago now... Mad to think.

It's a very special thing - a very rare thing to have a hole in one.....12000 to 1 or something like that for amateur's

Thinking about the ball it's one I 'lost' on the game on Monday, Srixon Soft Feel in a matt bright orange, I hit it and it headed for/around a tree on the first hole but when we got there couldn't find it, not particularly thick undergrowth or anything it had just vanished, How do you lose a bright orange ball! :p Then I was close to the same spot on Saturday and looked over to see it nestled tightly against the base of the tree behind some grass, good hiding spot obviously

I get that it's rare, and it's definitley *something*, just think it's not all that... Now that I've had one at least :D

I'd almost rather do 9 holes in <50 at this point :p

Went for my first fitting last Tuesday. Walked out having paid for a second hand set of Ping G25s, 5-PW. They're with Ping now getting altered. Didn't quite realize how poor my old clubs where (an old set of Hippo clubs, oversized), after hitting a few stiff shafts with green spot for lie angle my all too frequent slice had basically disappeared!

Very excited to get them now. Hoping they're back before the end of the week so I can get out over the weekend...

Excellent! My clubs are more upright, which prevents a big slice. I may need to get refitted at some point, as I got fitted when I started playing and now loads of my shots go left. Although, that could just be my over the top coming into play, hard to judge.

Hopefully the weather gets better for you next week, so you can get out to play. I'm meant to be playing tomorrow, as long as it's dry. Fingers crossed.

Cheers! Fingers crossed as I don't really want to Christen them at the range.

I've got my first lesson in over 15 years tonight and I'm a little worried that I've been too premature with my purchase... I asked the fitter if he thought anything would need to be drastically changed with regards my swing and stance that could effect the fitting and he said no, so hopefully he's right.

I've always been told that your swing doesn't change much in the short term, so you should be safe for quite awhile.
Most coaches don't make big changes, it'll probably be down to a few little tweaks to increase consistency.

Out of curiosity how long have you been playing before getting fitted? I've only just started and it's something that intrigues me, I personally feel as a complete n00b doing weekly group lessons that I'm improving but also that the mechanics of my swing are actually changing quite dramatically, or were at the start and still changing but stabilising somewhat I guess.

Not that I'm looking at large scale new clubs anytime soon :p

I did recently buy a cheapo 3 wood and 4 iron, basically just wanted to try those type of clubs, tested them at the range yesterday and I see why people don't particularly like the longer irons and that's only a 4... :D

I got fitted about 2 months into playing and they took around 3 months to arrive due to stock issues.
I wanted to get a new, more forgiving set which went further with todays technology right at the start, in order to help me get a little better a little quicker.
It's expensive to do, but it's not for everyone, I know a lot of people who just buy 2nd-hand or buy off the shelf and their totally fine.
Only if you get seriously into golf and really want to gain every edge possible, then getting fitted is good.

Hybrids are my favourite clubs, although I only have 1 and it's the club I use the most, bar driver, putter and PW. Interestingly, I bought it online, unfitted, regular flex and I love it. Some clubs you just get on with, some you don't :p

I played a lot between 15-18 and had quite a few lessons. Was never anything more then adequate amateur at best but wasn't too bad and learnt the fundamentals of a decent swing and stance. It'd been around 16 years since I picked up a club but got really into it again about 4 months ago and play 2-3 times a week now. This was my first ever fitting.

Generally speaking the rule of thumb is have all your obvious errors corrected first, then get fitted. At least, that's what I was told.

If you do want to get fitted though I suggest getting your measurements and getting a 2nd hand set to save a lot of money. Ping do loft alterations for free, you just need to pay postage.

The longer clubs are a problem area for a lot of newer players but they're worth learning how to hit properly for obvious reasons :)

I'm kinda getting seriously into it :p Only did my first round on 17th August and now 7 weeks later I've played 14 rounds and want to play even more frequently so planning to join my local club to play 9 holes there fairly regularly :D

I guess having bought clubs (cheapo Spalding package set) it seems like getting new Irons probably wouldn't help a huge amount, Driver maybe but it seems more important to fill out the gaps so got Driver, 4 Hybrid and then 6 Iron which seems to leave a bit of a gap, and then at the wedge end got Pitching and Sand but no gap/approach or lob, whether I need them or not who knows. Then looking at clubs there's that gap between brand new (which I'm assuming would be fitted) and second hand (assuming not, although guess not always the case).

As said I do have a 4 Hybrid but recently found myself struggling with it, not the clubs fault obviously, and been hitting my 6 Iron pretty well hence trying the 4 Iron. Amusingly yesterday at the range I was doing 'ok' with the 4 Iron and after the lesson on Monday talking about spine angle during the (back)swing I then tried the 4 Hybrid and was hitting it great again so who needs the Iron after all

Where did you go for fitting? It would be nice to go to a fitting that was just a fitting to say you need a 'x' length shaft, 'y' stiffness, 'z' lie angle etc and job done, without the "and here's a £1000+ Iron set that suits you" bit at the end :p Even if it was paid for that'd be worth it it feels like...

I went to Ultimate Golf for mine and they where very professional and not the least bit pushy. I stressed that I didn't have any clubs in mind and that the likelihood of me being able to buy anything new was very slim but they fitted me regardless. It was only a week later when I went back in to buy a pencil bag that I spotted a second hand set I liked (Ping G25s irons at £230) and mentioned to the guy that fitted me that I liked the look of them. They sent them off that day with my measurements.

Tell a lie, I went for a fitting of sorts at American Golf a few months ago but wasn't too impressed tbh. Didn't feel particularly in depth and they tried to do a sell job on me even though I stated ahead of time I wasn't interested in buying new.

Nice, that sounds like really good service :)

I had heard similar from American Golf, but also that it can vary drastically by store. I went into my local store (Bristol) to look at some shoes the other week, turns out I have oddly wide/short feet (also that golf shoes are 'long' I reckon :p) so none really fitted me but the guy was really helpful and happy for me to just keep trying on different shoes and not pushy at all, but that's just shoes and not a fitting so who knows...

Titleist were doing a fitting day at Ultimate Golf (Walsall) which is where I got my T100s Irons fitted. Didn't buy from them as they never got back to me about prices etc so ordered through Scottsdale Golf.

I went to Three Hammers American Golf for my driver/Hybrids fitting. They were brilliant. Not your typical American Golf.

Where do you play as I see you must be local. I'm a member at Wharton Park, Bewdley.
