Prize Giving at the golf club on Friday this week.

Got Doubles trophy to pick up and also a Quaich for lowest net qualifier for Club Championship ( special kind of shallow two-handled drinking cup or bowl of a type traditional in Scotland for all you people outside of Scotland!!) - plus £125 in vouchers.

Should go nicely towards my new electric trolley that i'll order soon.

Which trolly you looking at?
I've the CT6 and love it.

I can't do this Saturday as I've got to take my daughter to a friends party.

What was Great Barr like. Were they off temp tees or greens?

Ahhh no problem. I'm pretty much free every Saturday or Sunday to play but we can always organize a Monday if I can get a few weeks notice for work.

Great Barr was excellent. Fairways running really well and incredibly well maintained, tee boxes immaculate and only one temporary green. Greens in general where lush and reasonably fast considering the rain we've had. Almost all the bunkers flooded but that's to be expected I suppose. Probably the best course I've played locally though, especially for the price. Lovely open fairways with very little overhang. Next to no one playing either. Starting at 1 I had absolutely no one behind me.

I work every Monday unfortunately as have set shifts the Hospital.

I might venture over and try it next week. My course is playing with matts off the fairway etc which frustrates me and is also so so wet. I don't think I'll continue my membership next year as I don't play from Oct - March so a waste of money really.

I may have asked this before so apologies if so, but which Trust do you work for? I'm SWBH myself.

I will say GB was a touch muddy at points but nothing extreme like it has been at Calderfield and Boldmere, likely because GB is almost entirely flat. Can't imagine what it's like at somewhere like Dudley...

yeah - think that's pretty much the one I'll go for after looking around.

Don't need the GPS function as shotscope does that for me. Think I'll have around £400 on my account with local pro shop after collecting vouchers this week. Could probably save £50 online buying it but happy to give them the business.

Quick session in the garage this morning:

I've been hitting the gym for the last few months and things are starting to take shape. Things feel loads easier than they used to. Getting faster without any additional effort :)
My 4H used to be my 165yard club, but it's now my 200-220 yarder, depending on the lie/wind.

Since I'm a bit of a gamer, I feel like I've levelled up in the last couple of months, gained a fair few XP - with the gym giving me double-XP :D

Shotscope v3 - 100% the best thing you'll buy for the golf game.....

If your a stats nerd - unreal amount of data to dive into etc.
It will also show/highlight all the strengths and weakness in your game to allow you to work on things better.

Do you miss left side more or right side?
Distances of your irons/clubs
Are you short/long of greens etc.
How many putt on average
Literally goes into each individual hole and your tee shots/spread of shots etc etc

I'm a huge fan on shotscope - can't say enough good things about it. Honestly I think they could sell it as a £400 product and it would be worth the money. Can't recommended it highly enough.

Pretty much this really, a couple of the group I play with have the Shotscope now and rate it highly.

Saying that I'm a big ol' Garmin Fanboy :p I've been using my Fenix 3 HR (ancient and really basic for golf) for just yardage to the green (front/back/middle) and scoring, but I just had a moment of weakness and bought an Epix 2 Sapphire in the 'sales'...

Obviously not in the same price bracket (I'm such an idiot ) but one thing I found in looking at reviews was the later(est?) Garmins do auto-shot tracking which seems a bit more seamless than the Shotscope and doesn't need the tags... Allegedly :p Not sure then how the Shotscope would compare to the Garmin S12 which is I believe a bit cheaper. But like I said no idea if it's got all the fancy features of the S62/Fenix/Epix lineup.

I work at Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley. I'm a Charge Nurse in the Emergency Department

Been a while since i popped in here. I've just plumped for a Fenix 7, hoping for good things from the golf app and also for short eMTB rides, also use Strava, so would be good to see how far a round of golf actually makes you walk, managed to get it from Garmin with a black friday/bluelight discount for £485.

Finally had a decent few rounds of golf this year. Been very patchy and always hovered around the 90 shots a round. Finally clicked and shot 82, 84, 82 for the last 3 rounds, one of the 82's was looking like a sub 80 at one point until i lost a ball off the tee and left a few putts short. Ah well, probably hanging the clubs up now until next year unless i can convince any friends to drive to the coast and play some Links golf!

Nice, I was highly tempted by the Fenix 7 (probably 7X really, I'm ok with uber chunky watches with the Fenix 3 :p) but the screen on the Epix just looks sooooooo good :D

Same with hoping for the golf app to be decent, it'll definitely be an improvement on what I've got but we'll see.

As for how far, well steps, I've got some numbers from my Fenix 3.... A 9 hole round at my local course is ~7k steps, 18 holes there or the Woodlands Signature is ~14k steps (Shockingly twice as much!). Also using a buggy was ~5-6k steps when we could drive on the fairways right to the ball and now we need to stick to the paths it's ~9-10k steps, That feels easier I reckon than walking 9 holes imo :p)

Taking up @ArcticHeron recommendation and playing Great Barr on Monday. only the one green closed due to work. Even with all the rain no other temp tees or greens according to pro shop.

Lets hope I play well as not been out in 3 weeks.

Nice! Just got back from playing 9 there myself. Really is a nice course for the money.

Getting closer to breaking 50/100. Shot 54 today. Putted well but for a few holes and I kept underestimating the wind which cost me a few. First time keeping a ball through 9 though :)

Nice mate. It'll happen.
I'm tempted to see what it's like for membership as only 30mins away from me.

Played another 9 holes today with my Black Friday Swag, oddly my score didn't improve at all (in fact 1 shot worse than the previous two rounds), utter waste of money

First new bit was clubs, I picked up a 'new' second hand 3 Hybrid (Taylor Made Burner) and also a Cobra King F-Speed 9 degree driver, wasn't really looking for either but was suckered into ebay shopping with a nectar points offer and here we are...

So on the range before hand I tried both and hit some great (for me) shots with both, seemed like the Hybrid was 175+ Yards and the Driver easily clearing 200 yards, purely by eye but they both felt good and better than my previous Driver and 4 Hybrid so I left the old stuff in the car and went off to play.

Limited use of the Driver on that course and more often using the Hybrid or less off the (winter mat) tees but first tee shot, off the mat, with the ny Hybrid and my watch put it at 154 Yards, not putting everything into it because of the way the course goes so happy with that. Then driver I used 3 times, first sliced right but was 175 yards, second went left but similar distance (hard to say as it was into a hedge/tree) and third/final driver shot was 180 yards, again without putting 100% into it. So happy with that.

Next new bit was shoes, I had picked up (online) some Footjoy Pro SL shoes which I wasn't overly happy with the comfort of, the heel always felt 'lose' and was rubbing and the soles were also quite hard so I went to a local shop yesterday and picked up some Skechers and they're far far more comfortable, spiked so a bit more grippy in this weather too so all good.

Finally was the Epix 2 watch, overall this was great, logged way more (including per-shot stuff) but also overall 'activity' stuff like distance/HR/calories etc. But I have an issue with the shot tracking, I'm one of those weirdos that is right handed but wears the watch on the right wrist, the Garmin stuff does say it works better on the lead hand and I found that to be true on the range, got like 1 in 5 tracked with it on the right wrist and after switching it to the left wrist it worked perfectly, but it just feels so wrong... Maybe I need to spend another £200 on the CT10 club trackers... Cause that makes sense :p

How do you like Skytrack? I'm very keen on setting one up in the garage. As a noob, I want to get mileage and quite data oriented. Just the unit with no subscription is still ok for the basic range and stats?

Bought myself a Garmin Fenix on BF, won't help my scores but be nice to be able to get yardages again, esp for the Scotland trip next year.

Not played in 3 weeks, had this sniffle that's going round. I hate winter golf, and hate being cold!

Getting deluged with rain again down south so just a range practice this morning. Throw a few clubs in the car and off I went.

Tried the drill where you place a towel down a clubhead's length behind the ball to encourage a ball first contact. Thought I hit my PW pretty solid but I was clipping the towel every time, revealing! Swiftly moved onto some closest to the pin challenges on Toptracer :p

Love it, couldn't live without it!
I go in there multiple times a week, just to hit 10-20 balls now and again. I just do what I can to keep it straight and within my normal yardages over a few minutes.
I do have a subscription, but it was for the extras. The 'range' works fine without it and its what I use most. This one works a million times better than the garmin I had, as I only have roughly another foot behind my backswing behind me, so the garmin never had enough space to capture my shots. (but doesn't give you club stats, besides a calculated club speed.
