Golf Thread

Hey. Great to meet you today. Just got back after completing the 18.

Hope you haven't left any clubs on the course

Alright bud! Fab morning showing me how the games meant to be played :P

Did a head count on way back and everything seems to be there. Happens so often that it's not even an oddity now

Great playing with you mate, even if I wasn't at my best (which tbf is only marginally better...)

Love it, couldn't live without it!
I go in there multiple times a week, just to hit 10-20 balls now and again. I just do what I can to keep it straight and within my normal yardages over a few minutes.
I do have a subscription, but it was for the extras. The 'range' works fine without it and its what I use most. This one works a million times better than the garmin I had, as I only have roughly another foot behind my backswing behind me, so the garmin never had enough space to capture my shots. (but doesn't give you club stats, besides a calculated club speed.

Thanks for that. I was just thinking of using a screen (No projector), get a mat and 2nd hand unit to get started. Have an ipad spare for data. I assume that's ok to get going? Any tips and lessons you learned along the way would be great.

You hit some good shots. It’ll come in time.

I finished with an 82. Continued to hit some lovely drives. Gutted I couldn’t find my ball on the 9th though

Great score mate. Can't believe how well you played considering you hadn't been on a course for a few weeks. You're swing looks absolutely mint.
Very kind of you to say buddy. Has taken a long time to get to where I am. Especially as I’m getting closer to 50

If you want to meet again I’ll be more than happy too and if you ever want any tips etc I’d be happy to help. Even if it’s at a range etc to go through stuff.

Just couldn't believe it when you said you'd had only 2 lessons! Might be my dyslexia as I have to do everything practically with someone alongside me for anything to stick, but I was amazed when you said you'd learnt almost everything through YouTube. Genuinely very impressive.

For sure man, will absolutely have to meet up again.

Is anyone else here located in or around the West Midlands? Would be great to get a 3/4 ball together someday.

Yup literally Mark Crossfield or Rick Shiels.
Mark Crossfield was originally The Golf Guru and his tips and lessons online really helped. I'd take them with me to the range and practice them over and over again.

Like I said it was only December '21 and March '22 when I had my two lessons. Impingement on my rotator cuff was causing a horrid slice etc so needed it fixed. Seeing my swing during the lesson made perfect sense of what I was doing wrong so worked hard to fix it and with all clubs now being fitted has also helped me go from a 15 handicap to an 8.4.

Just need to continue the form through the winter to hopefully enter some comps and do well next year.

Can I just say winter golf absolutely sucks

Out again today, finally making good use of my membership but it was utterly awful. Quite foggy that just never lifted, lost one ball on the first hole that sounded like a decent contact and should've been easy enough to find but lost it in the fog never to be seen again. I think the fog/cloud meant the ground wasn't even approaching dry, grass was 'dewy' still so zero run at all, even less than the last couple of days. It even seemed like with the cold/moist air the ball just wasn't going anywhere at all.

Roll on summer already

Winter golf is just about getting out for a walk/swing the club. I don't take any notice of scores/shots I hit etc - I rarely putt out in winter as well. I treat it as 3 hours of chat/walk with mates etc.

That's probably a good plan, I did consider during the disaster that was the first hole to just stop the scoring and saunter around, but the other part of my is stats obsessed and needed to have moar numbers!

This was solo too, which was fine last week when it was actually a bit sunny so it was pleasant to just be out really, now it's overcast and foggy it's less appealing :p Got a tee time booked for tomorrow lunchtime too, more fog forecast, maybe I will just ignore the score side of things... Maybe... :D

Ignore the stats over winter time - meaningless....
