I second Sports Direct for things like balls, tees, gloves etc. Always seems to be the cheapest for accessories and the like. Never seen one stock extensive ranges of clubs or attire though, just the usual Slazenger beginner sets and branded clothing.

Its crazy, last time I bought some Slazenger balls, the two 24 ball packs for £20, is now the same balls for £26!!

Prices are going crazy everywhere these days!

I wouldn't bother at £26. They don't feel great off the face and mark so easily, plus for £30 you could get two dozen decent branded balls like the Callaway Warbirds.

They where a steal at £20, especially if you loose a lot of balls.

yeah slazenger are a terrible ball, best bet is getting some A grade AD333 or supersofts of ebay or facebook. Better yet, get to costco i use the Kirkland balls from there and they are a premium ball for £1 a ball.

I don't mind the V300 Slazenger balls really but it's the V100's that are really cheap iirc, and they are noticeably worse...

AD333 are decent winter balls for sure

Too cold up here for golf, it's been -4/5 degrees for last 4 days. Ground frozen, winter greens - no interest in playing this weekend when it's like that.

Even too cold for the range! :D

Aye it's hovering below freezing down in Birmingham. Not fussed about rain, but there's only so many layers I can put on before it starts impeding my swing xD

Went to the range in the week nd hit balls for the first time in about 18 years. I was obviously absolutely terrible, but now have the bug. I have an old set of Ping ISI-K irons which I never really liked or got on with, so I'm condsiering just starting again with a new iron set, plus driver and hybrid. Might head over to American Golf this weekend just to have a browse.

Do they have tester clubs I can just hit without booking a fitting? Also if I see a good deal on some irons elsewhere (I really like the look of the Taylor Made Stealths so hopefully I can hit some at AG), is it silly to buy them and then get them fitted afterwards? At the moment I wouldn't know what shaft flex I even need.

@magicroundabout or any of the other more experienced posters here will be best to answer that, but generally speaking it's best not to charge in for a fitting if you're unsure about your swing and/or game in general. If you buy decent clubs now and say go for a lesson next week they could modify everything about your game and the clubs you've purchased might not suit your new style of play.

Imo, prioritise lessons first then once you've got a feel for how your game will be progressing go get fitted.

Thanks. That's definitely what my head is telling me is sensible, and the most logical before blowing a load of cash. Although, at the moment I wouldn't really say I even have a 'swing.' it was that bad :D.

18/18 temp greens due to the frost, nice lay-in for me this weekend then.

Might go to the range where they have heating.

Does your range charge for heating? it's a quid for about 20 mins at mine and they already charge a fortune for balls, something like £12 for 95

Played at a new course today, Shrivenham Park near Swindon, a mate has just joined (and I'm going to joint a Society that's based around there in the new year) and so we decided to head out that way.

Weather was a little chilly, think the forecast was for a high of 3c, and it had got well below 0 overnight, but glorious blue skies so was in just my polo shirt after the first couple of holes, good times :p

The ground was largely frozen though, especially the greens, kinda weird to play like that especially as a week ago everything was waterlogged and not running/just stopping on the greens and now if you pitched onto the green it bounced like you'd hit a cart path, crazy ness.

Played reasonably well for me, scored 118 which is in the ballpark, but best bit of all I didn't lose a single ball! First time ever, happy days :D

Playing again on Sunday, forecast looks like it's not gonna go above 0, and cloudy/maybe foggy, so that'll be interesting  Definitely wearing my jacket for that one I think...

yeah - enjoy the old clubs for a bit - see what next year brings and go from there... Don't spend money on new clubs (generally £1k for new irons etc) - have fun first and foremost and if you keen to keep it going - consider a fitting next year some time

Nah you just flick the switch on, timer goes off after 3mins but rinse and repeat.

120 balls for £6 too, where the hell is your range so I can avoid it, wow.
