How did this go yesterday. What clubs did you try etc
Yeah went really well. Tried out loads, Titleist, TM, Callaway, Mizuno and PXG.

Ended up getting fitted into PXG Gen4 irons, as they felt the nicest. 6.5 rifle shafts which are the same as in my PING iBlades.

Stealth driver, 8 degree, xstiff HRZDS red driver was the best of the bunch, carry increased foe a 275avg to 290avg and less dispersion.

Wedges the TM MG3s felt the best, nice of the face and spinny enough.

Tried a load of 3 woods but nothing clicked so the fitter had me use a 16.5 degree TM Stealth hybrid#2

All in all a touch over £2.5k for a full fitting, so need to try and coax wife out of a second holiday next year! Ha

I have a real issue with toe strikes at the moment, so, I'm going to work on those and then get refitted in March time so I can make good use of the clubs I end up with!

I find I can see white balls better in the air than the luminous ones for some reason so I use white.

Some people might treat at as a 'fashion' thing but I'd wager most of the time it'll be down to personal preference. One of the guys who plays with us uses the sort of reddy-orange balls for no real reason other than he prefers them.

White ball against a blue skyline then yeah I get that. But this is the UK. :)

Desperate to play before Christmas but got so much to fit in. Might just say sod it tomorrow morning, pick up the bag and go. Hopefully they'll let me on the course before 9...

Quick question guys. Why do most people who play tend to use white coloured golf balls? I mean yellow/purple luminous ones are obviously infinitely easier to see/find so just wondered if it is a fashion thing, like seen as inferior and "non pro" like, or are there real reasons? Like do courses insist on white? Lack of "decent" balls that are non white. Other reasons?
For most of the year I will play a white ball (usually the Chrome Soft X LS with Triple Track) as it is easy enough to track in the air, but once the weather starts to change and the leaves drop from the trees I will make sure I have got some yellow balls in the bag to use depending on the types of leaves on the ground - my home course has a lot of grey/white leaves so a yellow ball is easier to spot, but if courses have a lot of red/yellow coloured leaves then I will stick with a white ball
Not played for about 3 weeks now :(
I wish.....probably been nearer double that for me with a combination of weather, work and back problems

Played a very short par 3 a couple weekends ago whilst walking the course with my wife and some friends playing in a fun 9 hole competition and realised it is going to be a little while yet before I can manage even 9 holes, never mind a full round

First lesson booked next week. 1 hour £25 special price intro lesson at Headingley GC in Leeds. Nervously looking forward to it! It's also a bit posh there!

Lessons at my local clubs seem to be minimum £50 an hour up to £70 per hour depending on if they are considered like the top trainer there PGA approved/certified or whatever. Is that about what to expect?

That's the price range that I've been seeing round by me for an hour at full price.

^ Yes - local PGA Pro here is £70 per hour. No discount for booking in multiples either, although when you look at his calendar you can understand why!

So after going back to American golf to show them the "visual" differences between my 3 hybrid and 4 hybrid they agreed it looks different but trying to find somewhere locally to measure lofts is proving difficult. We went onto Trackman briefly and indeed I was hitting my 4hybrid to within 5 yards of the 3hybrid (215 average). I even creamed one 240 but that was a total one off so we didn't count that

I have then tried an LTDX-LS 5w with Tensie AV Raw White Stiff and was seeing a gain of +15 to 20 yards yards over my 4 hybrid. American Golf have a lead time of +6 weeks where as Scottsdale were 3 - 4 weeks. So ordered a 5w through them. Should be here approx 25th Jan.

I will hold onto the 3 Hybrid for now as still searching for someone to measure lofts. If it is faulty I can get a full refund back from American Golf/Cobra.

Also, Scottsdale had some Uncommon golf balls on offer, I have ordered some Model 33 to try as a cheap set. £26 per dozen reduced from £40. https://www.scottsdalegolf.co.uk/shop/uncommon-model-33-golf-ball-og-white-dozen

Had a major revelation today...

Meant to be out on the course today but the weather in sunny Scotland decided otherwise so my mate and I decided to go to the range and whack a couple of hundred balls, play some Trackman games etc. Decided to have a long drive contest which I was preparing to get spanked in because I'm struggling massively slicing my driver and his long game is incredible. We decided to swap drivers and I must have hit 5 in a row that were almost plum straight and averaged about 270 yards. He steps up with my driver and hits a few - slices every single one of them (not as bad as me but still pretty bad) and I've maybe seen him slice his own driver a handful of times since I started playing in April last year. I always thought I was the problem but it looks like I'm not - I've never felt confident when standing over a ball with it but was totally different with my mate's driver before I'd even swung it.

Was looking at getting a new 52 and 56 wedge (more than happy with my 60 degree MG3) but seriously tempted to look into a new driver first.

what driver are you using in comparison incl shaft?

I've got a Taylormade M1 (2017, I think) with a Diamana S+ 60 shaft. Bought 2nd hand and coincidentally, the guy I bought it off said that he couldn't get on with it either. Starting to think it's cursed!

Mate has a Callaway Rogue (2018) with a Fujikura Pro 62 shaft.

I'm 6'5 so I thought it might have been my height making it an issue with it being a 'standard' length but his is the same length.

Could be too short a shaft but also be too light for you. Also if your swing speed is high the club will be too whippy.

Definitely get yourself fitted. It’ll help no end

My brother has very kindly got me a Samsung Watch 5, must have been a good bonus this year :p Which means I'm looking for recommendations on a suitable golf app.

Samsung themselves recommend a few (https://www.samsung.com/uk/mobile-phone-buying-guide/best-app-for-smart-watch/), Smart Caddie, Golf GPS Rangefinder & Hole 19. Anyone have any experience of these?

Don't mind paying a one of fee if it means I can avoid adds when all I want is distance to the green or hazards off the tee.

I've heard good things about The Grint. I looked at this for my Apple Watch before getting my shot scope.

Thanks, I'll take a look. Got out for a few holes this morning. Mixed bag, course conditions generally ok on the fairways but marsh like in other areas. Lovely weather and great to be out in the fresh air, especially as I barely saw anyone else all round :)
