Golf Thread

popped into a independent golf shop in Aberdeen today..saw the Ricky Fowler Copper Edition Blades by Cobra. OMG, how anyone can hit these, i mean, seriously, WOW!

Hey guys, i usually wear glasses to see most if the time. But struggle with them on the range / course, can someone suggest best course of action.

I plan to get tight sports frames with my prescription so I can track the ball better..what’s the best thing to do?

go to specsavers and tell them my situation or what”

cheers.

What do you struggle with? I wear glasses as well and my usual glasses are 'fine'... I am thinking for the summer getting some nice prescription 'wrap around' (e.g. Oakley style) sunglasses but for now my normal ones are fine.

I played golf yesterday for the first time in basically 3 weeks due to Christmas/Weather, same course as last time but this time it wasn't frozen solid so the greens weren't like concrete, definitely better that way :-p

Didn't help I picked up a bug over christmas so feeling kinda rough and found it quite a struggle at points and was thoroughly knackered afterwards, ended up in bed by 8pm...

Ended up scoring pretty well, hit 3 pars which is a record and a score of 112 which is my best so far (even accounting for the 'low' par of that course) so quite happy with that, loads of room for improvement but actually improving, even by a small amount, is always nice :)

That sounds like just a fitment thing, you're basically just looking down during the swing? Never had an issue with that with my glasses....

I am not long back from specsavers, and have a set of there "sport" glasses on order, once they arrive, and when im happy they will put my prescription in and they will be made up.

It will take a few weeks as the time of year, but no biggie!

They look quite smart, not that im totally bothered though, its just so I can track the ball in flight..mainly 90% of the snap-hooks and slices!

been also looking at the Voice Caddie Sc300i too. Anyone used this? I know its not as detailed as the Garmin R10 but its also a fair bit cheaper.

Is this worth the money? I getting to a stage I need some sort of club distance monitoring, as guesswork is no good, and I do want to get fairly competent at my golf game again!

Just got back from nine holes this afternoon. My usual mix of dross, average and good shots :p

Did have my driver back in the bag having worked on some setup adjustments last time out on the range. Mostly average but had one terrible miss hit where I chunked the ground several inches before the ball and one beauty on the 8th after a father & son duo had asked if I wanted to join them for the last couple of holes. I've moved to a slightly lower tee, 40mm, which is also helping me avoid hitting so many high up on the face. Can see the potential is there to start getting more consistency and a reasonable (for me) distance.

Highlight of the round was the new stand bag I purchased last week. Made things so much easier when I got up to my ball to just plonk it down and not worry if it was going to fall over.

Course was in pretty reasonable condition given all the rain we've had over christmas. Squelchy in places but green keepers had been out with the spikers to help the worst areas drain and keep the course open :)

I'm finally getting out to play on Saturday. First time in 4 weeks

I've not even been to the range to hit a ball. Had loads going on.
Aiming to go to the range tomorrow before work on the night. Dreading to see how bad it'll be :D

Had one round in about 7 weeks I think - not even been to range.... Need to get moving again.

Thought it would be interesting for anyone who wants - Post 3 Targets/aims/goals for your golf this year.... Anything.

Mine are :
  • Currently 8.7 handicap - Want to aim to get into the 6's this year.....
  • Practice/range work once a week - I find time to muck around gaming for an hour or so each night - make one of the sessions a putting/range session
  • Taking stats from Shotscope - GIR was 34% last season and averaged 31.5 putts per round. Improve on both of these stats for 2023 season.
see where thing go for the seasons - Anyone else fancy putting some up??

move to a country where I can play more often and for less money at better conditioned golf courses
improve my putting particularly distance control
improve my chipping particularly chip and run shots

Ordered the voice caddie sc300i today, here tomorrow. Will be interesting to see my results and get an indication of my yardages for when I hit the course soon.

  1. Keep my handicap in single figures and be consistent
  2. Practice/Range once a week
  3. play some competitive golf. never entered a comp so really want to start
