How do you normally tee up your drives?

See - this is my problem, has been for a while. I am a fairly "low" tee driver, anything too high (which most people would call normal height ) - I tend to get right under it and sky it almost.

I know your supposed to tee it up, fairly high, almost half a ball above the top of the club face, but I can't do that, mentally I struggle with that as it's already in my head that I'm going to sky it :p . I need to hit up on the ball a little more but having played so well over last 12/18 months I've not wanted to change anything.

would hate to come up against you in a match play with these scores.... Anything over 40 points is very very impressive. Handicap must be on the way down for sure...
Yep it was down to 11.0 today and I reckon it'll be down to 10ish tomorrow, cuts just in time for my first load of knockout ties!
41 points, sandbagging bandit!
:D

I still get results from my old club, still got friends who play there. A lad won the monthly stableford (Division 3) with 53 points….. My mates have played with him and say he is new to the game, usually scoring mid/high 20 points off 28, every dog has his day! :D

The following day one of the lads I know there hit a gross 59 nett 62 in the Sunday medal for a new course record!

Glad I left as I’d never compete with that kind of scoring! :D

I do this from time to time, I get right under it and sky it, goes the usual 150y from doing that lol. I think I shift my weight too much to the left, as if I'm playing an iron, I reckon I have to stay behind the ball a bit more to hit up more consistently. Not something I've really worked on.
I've hit a few where I've managed to hit up on the ball and it does fly an extra 10-20y for me, but I find I really have to get into an awkward tilted position to do that, so I don't tend to do it often.
Distance isn't your trouble though, so just keep how you have it, at least for now.

you'd be hunted out of my club with 53 points - no matter what your handicap is. That's 3 points a hole - effectively a net birdie on 17 holes and 1 net par. - So he's shot around 17 under his handicap. Outrageous.....

I remember shooting 41 points once off 3/4 of my handicap once at a regional qualifier.... Got boo'd and heckled collecting the prize money/golf bag I won by others who where their. About 20 years ago now and the organisers wrote to my club asking for a copy of my handicap certificate. (before the days of phones/apps etc)

Ventus Blue TR 6-X shaft arrived today - had a quick blast at the range, was pushed for time.

Wind was fairly strong straight into me and obviously not a lot of adjustability with the rubber tees/**** range balls.

Certainly feels different to existing shaft - I felt I could feel the head of the club much more thought my swing, hard to get a proper feel for distance as it was probably a 2 club wind I was hitting into.

Would like to try and find some time to get on the course with it friday/saturday if I can (due to UPS being slow delivering today rather than yesterday, Tourshafts said I can keep it over the weekend)

Didn't feel super stiff, also hard to gauge against existing shaft in the wind re flight etc. Hopefully wind dies down a bit in the next few days and will have another go. Averaging around 108/109mph swing speed from R10 numbers.
defo need some nice weather to try it. for me the feel is lovely. so impressed. Also centre strikes are just consistent. Like 90% of the time

Fantastic overall I'd say. Been holding off on getting a smartwatch because generally speaking the battery life on all of them aside from the dedicated sports watches have been terrible, but I can easily gets 3 days out of GW5 Pro even with heavy use (tracking a 30 min run daily, heartrate sensor every 1 min, push notifications on for everything etc.). GPS tracking seems spot on as well even on the greens, though that may be more the app/phones coordination rather then the watches.

It helps if you have a Samsung smartphone naturally.

Just to note also that I tried Golf Buddy first (the app that Samsung officially pairs with for tracking golf) but found it woeful. Horrible interface and constant crashes with even worse GPS accuracy.

Took the plunge and got the watch - was wondering what app you're using for it?

Nice! I use the Golfpad app as it seemed to be one of the more highly regarded ones, you also have the option to buy tags for it later down the line. Think it cost £28 for the year?

Haven't had any issues with it so far and always seems pretty accurate, the app layout on the watch face is sleek and easy to understand and navigate.

My son has been selected for his local club's junior team so he's quite excited about that. Seems a great perk of the annual membership fee for him as he gets to go and play team golf at some other really nice courses. It's making me want to become a member and start playing more myself but the annual fees are 1.9k. :O
The average green fee without guest discount (I think my son can only have me as a guest a few times a year) is about £80. I'd have to play on average about twice a month over the year for the membership to break even.

There is another course locally to me which is meant to be really nice and it literally is my closest one. It seems a bit more exclusive/strict, but they had an offer on recently where it was only about 1k annual fee. Since junior memberships are so small in cost, I might look into me and my son joining so we can play together sometimes. He's already a member of two courses as the annual fees are so low. One is under a ton, and the other about 200.

Out today playing golf, yesterday it was glorious sunshine and 15c, not so much today, although at least no chance of sunburn :p Rain was more like constant drizzle so not 'too bad' really.

Scored 114, which is kinda meh, didn't really feel like I was playing 'that bad' although my driver was pretty terrible today, topping them all, until the lost hole where I hit a lovely drive, nice pitch and 2-putt for par, good end at least :D

Ended up in 4 bunkers in the first 12 holes. First one, second shot on a par 4 which is Stroke Index 1 and I've never par'd it, took me 3 shots to get out the bunker :( I then 1-putt from a good 20 ft for a 6.

Decided before today that I was gonna ignore my pitching wedge, and stuck to that, may account for a couple of shots :p I feel I rely too much on the PW as I use it for basically anything <100 yards (a really good PW for me is about 100), got a swing I 'know' works for like 65-ish, another for 30-ish, and comfortable with chipping it obviously. So today I didn't take it out the bag, got a full set of wedges (52, 56 and 60) and actually used them for a change.

Well that's it confirmed I won the medal on Wed there, two on the trot. Let's see if I can make it a hat trick on Sunday :)

In all seriousness though looking at my comp card, that's the block of lessons I bought in Oct paid for themselves already. I think I'll cash out and get fitted for a 19deg hybrid.

@magicroundabout
@booyaka

What are your average/max ball speeds for driver? I know booyaka is a stats guy, so probably knows his :)
I can only go off top tracer. I was getting between 158mph - 164mph. I did hit a 166mph when really pushing but the ball went way right
Not bad for a short ass 45 year old

actually I lied.

Sihwan Kim +12 today at Round 1 Liv in Australia....

Started with a 10....

He's stone dead last in all 3 LIV events so far - +13/+19/+23 totals - has not beaten a single player in those events....

Ridiculous to think he's earned $120k per event for finishing last in every one.

And Norman still bleating on about how competative the LIV events are etc....

Current leaderboard in Australia - Talor Gooch/Dean Burnmester/Richard Bland/Danny Lee .....

Driver with 6-x Blue TR shaft today. Out of the course.

1st - 252yd - fairway hit
4th - lost ball - bad swing
5th - 282yd - fairway hit
6th - 282yd - fairway hit
8th - 247yd - fairway hit (straight into wind)
9th - 245yd - fairway hit (straight into wind)
11th - 290yd - fairway hit (best drive of the day)
12th - 277 - fairway hit
15th - 265 - fairway bunker

Overall - really impressed with the shaft - felt like I didn't need to work at all to get it out there, Very controllable, much more "feel" than the stock shaft etc.

Worryingly looks like I need to purchase one!!

+6 for 16 holes in the stableford comp today - lost balls on 3 & 4 for no scores. Otherwise no doubles in the rest of the 16 holes. Didn't actually add up stableford points!

Another game today, weather was much nicer but oddly got a bit windy for just 2 holes, both into wind and those were 2 of the 3 holes I've never par'd on this course, so that was nice, actually did ok on those though...

Overall meh again, putting stats look terrible (2.7 per hole) but I was also putting off the green a chunk just cause I didn't trust my wedges, still keeping the PW in the bag, I need to get better with the wedges, really do...

114, same as Friday, both 9's were 57's, consistently meh. :p

But a good day nonetheless.

No full golf for me this weekend. Just a range session early evening and then as the weather was good decided to nip round the par 3 course. Swing was working nicely and once again I was left wonder why I can hit driver straight on the range but always a big fade/slice off the tee box :p

First round of the year yesterday, last played in November! Steady away 91, happy to just get under 100! :D Lost most shots on chipping around the green, driver and irons working well (252yd carry on the last, I know that as it was nearly fully plugged!), but definitely lost the touch around the green flubbing chips all the time.

Need to work hard over next 2 weeks as off to Portugal on the 11th May for the annual lads golf trip.

Got myself a Garmin Fenix 7 last year for mtb’ing, used it for the first time for golf GPS, pretty impressed!
