north?

West Coast of Scotland for me - Anyone welcome anytime up here for a game.

Loads of courses around here - 15 minutes I can drive to Royal Troon, Turnberry, Western Gailes, Dundonald etc - Spoilt for choice around here.
yeah North of the Wall

I'd love to travel up in the Summer to play some courses in Scotland.

as Mark said more the merrier. we'll find a nice course somewhere. I don't know the area so maybe you guys might have a recommendation?

Guessing by mid-way between you and Mark that's gonna be somewhere Gloucester-ish way? Maybe bit further north? Not really sure on courses, I've only played Bristol and a few others...

Did a google of courses in Gloucestershire, found a top 10 that had a surprisingly high number of Bristol courses ¬_¬ But number 1 was Ross-on-Wye Golf Club

Yes that looks a bit special but has a huge amount of trees to hit

Played a society day with work today (24 of us) at Karsten Lakes (ping Gainsborough) came second overall played off 17 and shot 37 points. Been up and down last month or so, so pretty happy with that and winning a few quid :p

Weather somewhat ruined the weekend at Macdonald Hill Valley resort. Walked off after 9 the first day as greens where almost completely waterlogged and though they improved yesterday it still wasn't ideal.

Amazingly however I finally broke 100! Hit 51% of the greens in reg and if they where in any sort of decent condition I probably could have avoided a lot of the 3 and 4 putts. But it was off the tee where I saved the most shots... I'd picked up Driver for pretty much the first time last week and had 2 range sessions worth of practice to imbed a little bit of technique and thankfully it translated really well onto the course. As some of you might know I've been struggling off the tee for almost a year now and to finally get distance relatively consistently now was clearly a game changer. Very pleased. Taken a could 9 months to get here. Just got to work on doing it consistently now and then we can start to look at 90 :)

I actually recorded one of my drives. Form is horrendous I know. I don't fire anywhere near as much with my hips on the downswing as I should do and I don't hit up on the ball enough so I tended to max out at about 220 yards (215 on the drive below) as I don't really get the height, but the shape was clean the majority of the time with a bit of a fade.

Edit:

Just noticed my trail elbow at the top of the swing as well now :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Congrats on breaking 100!! Good effort.

Nipped out for 18 holes with my Dad this afternoon - 3 hours - nice and quick - good weather.

VERY unnerved however - literally worst ball striking in probably 2 years....Horrible, just put it down to a bad day at the office but really weird and unnerving after 18/24 months of really solid golf

How on earth are you only just breaking 100 hitting 51% GIR? I hit maybe 35% and play to mid/high 80s.
Something must be seriously wrong with your putting.
Driver sounded like a decent strike though .

Complete blind luck on this occasion mate, it's by no means a consistent percentage. My average is 21% according to golf pad app and that seems optimistic. The course I did it on was playing incredibly short as well which helped and approach shots for distance where spot on. That paired with crappy greens in wet conditions had the ball halting up fairly quick. It was in essence a perfect storm of course conditions and mediocre golf

And you're right, my putting is indeed horrific. The course also had some pretty horrific blind tee shots over big hills and I lost about 8 or 9 shots there. The few balls I did find had plugged pretty hard due to to the wet weather. Summer can't come quick enough.

Always fun when you play-through a couple of old gents, although it did take them 8 holes to call me through
370yds par4 - they called me through, just when I was about to hit a few practice balls to figure out the best way for me to play it. Anyway, I quickly ran up and grabbed my hybrid, instead of launching a driver down there every time, which tends to get a bit close to the big trees, which can cause me trouble.
Hit the 4H about 200Y, pretty much same line as my driver, but in a much better position behind those trees. Although it's now a 7i rather than a PW.
They waited for me to hit my 2nd shot before joining me to the green.
I launched my 7i 185y down wind, 20 yards passed the green, luckily it's open back there.
You know when you're called through, you don't know how they want to play it, some of them join you until you get to the green and others just sit there waiting for you to complete all of your shots.
So I quickly walked to my bag, decided to play bump and runs all day to day, rather than my lofted chips to get some practice there. Worked out this time, from 20y passed the green, I skimmed the cup and it ran 12-15feet passed the hole.
Awkward one, as I was putting from on one of the guys line, so had to stand awkwardly, would have been happy for an easy 2 putt, but sank it straight into the hole, tipped my hat and walked off as if it was nothing :D They actually looked at each other, not sure why lol.

Straight after that, I teed off on the 9th right in front of them, clubbed up because of hitting directly into the wind. Didn't hit it too great, landed about 10y short of the green. Chipped it again to about 10 feet behind the hole and one putted for another par save. No better feeling of playing well in front of a couple of guys who are sat there watching you play ahead of them.

Fun times.

Ventus Blue TR 6-X shaft arrived today - had a quick blast at the range, was pushed for time.

Wind was fairly strong straight into me and obviously not a lot of adjustability with the rubber tees/crap range balls.

Certainly feels different to existing shaft - I felt I could feel the head of the club much more thought my swing, hard to get a proper feel for distance as it was probably a 2 club wind I was hitting into.

Would like to try and find some time to get on the course with it friday/saturday if I can (due to UPS being slow delivering today rather than yesterday, Tourshafts said I can keep it over the weekend)

Didn't feel super stiff, also hard to gauge against existing shaft in the wind re flight etc. Hopefully wind dies down a bit in the next few days and will have another go. Averaging around 108/109mph swing speed from R10 numbers.

How do you normally tee up your drives?

10 pars today in the wed medal, 7 bogeys and 1 double for a 80 and 41pts. The march continues lol

Chuffed again today, very breezy. Can't believe I was in contention to break 80 again.

I've got a Rogue ST Max driver in the bag currently and while I don't think it's the longest, it seems to be very forgiving on mis-hits and I'm hitting a lot more fairways than I usually do.

would hate to come up against you in a match play with these scores.... Anything over 40 points is very very impressive. Handicap must be on the way down for sure...
