Golf Thread

Finished with my 2nd best score of 91 a week after shooting 90. If anyone is north of the border and in Fife for whatever reason, try and squeeze a round in at Kinghorn - such a fun and quirky course!

Goes to show that golf very much is a game of two halves. I was ready for walking off after the front 9 because I hadn't hit a single shot that I was happy with but came to life on the back 9.

Always find it funny when people **** off golf for how it's not the most physically demanding sport when they are totally oblivious to how hard it is mentally. That front 9 battered me pillar to post inside :D

Played today after skipping Friday to rest the back, and today was the semi-competitive society so stableford with a society handicap of 37 (as opposed to 45.2 official :p)

First 9 was, well, not ideal. Some good shots but also meh, on the 8th I hit my tee shot into a pond like 20 yards in front of the tee (so a terrible shot) and then hit my second tee shot in there as well, didn't bother playing the hole after that. 7 points scored.

Back 9 was far better, think I scored 9 points in the first 3 holes, 19 points overall for 26 total. On the 17th I pitched from ~50 yards away and it hit the flag and dropped around a foot from the hole, not bad, except it was my 5th shot on a par 5 (so 6, net 4, not terrible I guess :D)

Best bit was my back seemed mostly ok, bit sore now but pretty sure it didn't affect my swing at all, got another sports massage booked for Thursday and will likely just rest until then but fingers crossed the woes of the bad back are behind me and I can get back to breaking 100!

Finished another YT video from a few holes I did earlier this week in the morning before work.

Getting quicker at doing these, took about 60mins, roughly. It's the only golf relating thing to do when it's raining right now
Tried keeping my head down like @booyaka mentioned.
Still not that good with keeping balance. I do rotate more than most people (not necessarily a good thing), which doesn't help since my lower body is quite active. Worth me trying to quiet that down I think.

Let me know - I'm tempted to order a couple of demo shafts to try next week as I have some spare time.

Similar swing speed to me so good to know....Keep me posted please!

Another 125 balls up the range this afternoon as golf was cancelled.

@booyaka you are seriously going to love the Ventus TR Blue 6X. Oh my days. I've been working on a few things with my driver swing lately i.e. slowing down my back swing to give myself more control with getting my club in the correct position. The feel through the shaft with the ventus is lovely. Never hit so many balls out the centre of the face.

Played around with the weights also by placing the 14g into the back of the club for that extra forgiveness. Worked a treat. Can't wait to see how a ProV1 comes off the face now

good couple of videos mate. I was about to highlight the balance. You seem to be on your toes a lot. Maybe do what I've been doing and try to slow your back swing down. It's as though you're trying to bounce like the long hitters do to generate power which in turn is causing the balance issue?!

Unfortunately I'm no expert in advising what drills to do to help with balance.

Yeah, im no pro either, but I do find when I slow it down and don’t try and not smash it into oblivion, the difference is night and day for shot results.

You're right. That's exactly how I generate any power in my swing.
I know it's not the correct way to do it, but it's got me distance and is fairly consistent (to me). I'm sure I'll look back at myself in a few years and laugh at myself, but it is what it is

I'd love to spend time with someone who knows how to hit a ball, who has the time and patience to help me get speed without bouncing all over the place. I do what you say though, long drive type - back swing, reach high, almost stand-up, rotate as much as I can, squat and recentre, and follow through, as fluid as I can. It's not pretty, but it works for now. I know coaches are meant to do this, but every one I meet seems to want to bandage me up and not work on anything long term.

Sometimes with coaches they look for the perfect swing instead of working on your basics and tweaking them to suit you. It'll never work.

We're not young anymore and have developed our own faults and traits. All we need to do is hone them to get the best out of what we have.

I know you like speed in your swing but believe me having a fast swing doesn't always = distance.
their was a young lad near me today using the Foresight range bay and his driver swing was av 96mph yet was delivering a driver carry of almost 275 yards. His technique was a joy to watch tbh. I reckon he was only 19 or something. I felt like punching him

You're only 1hr 45mins from me. I'd be more than happy to meet half way for a game sometimes. I'm no expert in golf but maybe we could help each other!

Nice day at Carrick Loch Lomond.... Very very wet course - always has been an issue up there. Good fun with the boys, some great shots mixed in as well.

Nearly got my mate to buy a Scotty as he took one out for demo and canned everything on the front nine inside 15ft.....

He was very tempted but I think his missus would have murdered him knowing what she's like! He's close to buying one I think....

Talking about driver shaft, coincidence or not, my driver shaft broke today. :(
Put my stand-bag down, it fell over with the driver in it... picked it up and it was in half. Gutted!

These tourshafts @booyaka - how do they work? I wouldn't mind hitting a few of them into my simulator to see what goes best. (is there a 'i want to demo these clubs' option?)

Go on their website (tourshafts.com) - pick the shaft you want and on the section to pick your adapater/length etc - there is a box for "view rental options"

Click that and basically there is no option to increase length/decrease length on demo's nor is there for grip thickness but select basically a 3 day window and they post out to you, 3 days to demo, and prepaid returns is what I was told.

Their facebook chat is very quick and efficient if you have any questions

My shafts are coming Tuesday I believe. will update you on the process when they arrive.

Sounds like an action replay of me the other week :p

106 this afternoon. Out in 50, would have been comfortably less but for two topped drives and an ill choice of 3w off the 5th tee. Shot of the round was my 7i on the par 3 3rd, good birdie chance but I inexplicably drilled my put way past and left with a four! Looking down my card it seems 3 putts were the order of the day. Nine in total although a couple of those from just off the green. Faded in the back nine to come back in 56, nothing worse than a triple bogey so no horror scores just too many duffs out of some quite sodden ground and poor wedges.

I’d be up for that! Send me a message and we can sort something out for a game in the next couple of weeks for sure!

Good comms this morning again from Tourshafts.

Unfortunately our blue 7s is still on rental and current customer is ignoring all return notifications. Very frustrating. It was due back to us on Thursday 13th April. Would you like us to ship the 6x today regardless and work on getting the 7s to you? Apologies for the inconvenience

6x on the way - should be here tomorrow.

For the record - you pay a refundable deposit for the shaft hire as well

Feel free to tell me to sod off but it sounds like that'd probably be semi-close to me too, so if guys you fancy a three-ball and a display of some terrible golf I might be up for tagging along?
as Mark said more the merrier. we'll find a nice course somewhere. I don't know the area so maybe you guys might have a recommendation?
