Quick straw poll. Curious what style of putter everyone uses and if you had a fitting or were steered in a particular direction by anyone? Did it make a big difference to your game?

Very tempted to pick something up after hitting a couple yesterday with my pro's Spider GT Max. That particular model is at the pricey end so been looking for similar style models from the TaylorMade range. Namely this one:

I've semi-recently got a TaylorMade Spider GT Rollback, so kinda 'small mallet' style. I wasn't fit into it but I spent 'a while', over several sessions, trying pretty much all the putters until I decided on that one.

I was using, and very happy with, a simple blade style one I got with my package set but after walking carrying a fair bit it had knocked into the PW enough to take some paint off the face, probably fine but looking down at it was the opposite of confidence inspiring :p

I personally much prefer the looks of a blade style, but it's hard to argue against that 'MOI' of a mallet style really...

I got fitted for my putter and came out with the Odyssey 11, inch longer and 1 degree of loft taken off.

Prefer a mallet so tried various Ping, TaylorMade, and Odyssey ones. Had my eye on the TaylorMade GT but didn't like it when I got my hands on it. The Odyssey 11 felt perfect and has made a major difference to my game.

so personal putters - hard to say what suit or not.

Had same putter for 16 years so I'm biased..... Scotty Cameron is a lot of money, but it's an investment for ever.

Was talking to someone the other day - say on average 30 putts around even at 50 rounds a year - that's 1500 putts and I've had mine for 16 years - 24000 putts - great value for money!!

Updated - 6 of my last 7 rounds are counters for handicap so that's a good sign I guess.

Sitting 3rd in Club Championship qualifying after the 2nd round yesterday. Top 16 gross and top 16 net qualify for Knockout. Should be in again with 144 total on the handicap side.

Ahh brill! What course did you play?

To have only lost 2 balls so far is very good going. I found that dropped balls where what made my early score cards so hellish so keeping those to a minimum straight out the gate is great! Your pal was right to give you short game tips. It's where most players can save the most shots but ironically us beginners tend do prioritize long game first. Every one likes to look good off the tee :p

Most important thing to remember is that it's a process, a very slow one for most of us and the learning curve is hellishly sporadic. You'll play great one day and think you've cracked it but the next time you go nothing 'clicks' and you'll tank your card and probably think it's not worth it. Keep at it. It all gets fed into the machine one way or another and before long you'll be able to recognize what you did wrong, that's when you really start to save shots.

Was just harborne golf club.

Not long back from another 9 hole round, actually 2 as we went round a second time.

Par 3 course and both rounds scored exactly the same at 59. Both rounds had 2 terrible holes on them really pushing up my total but it was good fun none the less.

Just need to get more practice in and I’m sure I’ll quickly improve.

Had my society match today, another meh result, gets annoying when yesterday my 5W was beautiful and today it was all over the place. Even hooked some left, I never go left :p

Kinda weird, especially as someone who basically never wears shorts, fairly regularly had bugs crawling over/landing on my legs, somewhat distracting at times...

Walked off after 15 today I don’t adapt to change well at all, since my lesson last week I’ve had 2 bad rounds but frustratingly I went to the range yesterday and hit the ball as good as ever, my 7 iron went from 150 carry to 160+ and it was compressed. Today I played and couldn’t hit a cows *** with a banjo. Even shanked a couple :(

yeah, its not an easy game..

Its crazy I had a lesson a few months back, and was told to go back towards the golf ball (one was placed top right on the mat and I was to pull my club to that direction), and its sooo hard to adjust, and I kept thinking to myself, I cant be going straight back, something wrong here...

But sure enough, when i have been watching my replays in practice mode on the Rapsodo, the club it going straight back on the path it should, i couldnt believe it, but the proof was in the pudding as they say! :(

Stick with it - takes time for sure. I hated my changes a couple of years back now with the grip change - horrible. But man it's working well now.

Excellent 5&4 victory in club foursomes (2 ball) tonight - Played against 3 & 4 handicappers.

5 up through 7.... They got it back to 4 at 9th, halfed 10/11/12

Won 13th with a shot to be back to 5 up.

Crazy finish on 14th however.

Par 3 - 210 yards into wind.... Partner to hit - he fires 3 iron WAY left and lost. They hit into front bunker. I hit provisional 7 wood.... Beauty to about 15ft. They get out of bunker to about 20ft....Then run the putt about 4 ft past....

My partner redeems himself by canning the 15ft putt for a 4 after the lost ball....

Crazy matchplay hole...

God I ache! Driving was great, long irons ok, short game and putting was *****. I need some putting lessons and to get fitted for one, must’ve lost over 10 shots due to poor putting - even missed a 3 foot gimme on the 18th for par :(

105 today on the harder Cathedral course :) I say harder, there's a lot more water, but the holes themselves bar a 600 yard par 5 aren't too bad - 258 yards longer from the yellows. Quite a lot of uphill, downhill which means it takes around 25 minutes longer to get round than the Tower course. You can certainly feel it on the body afterwards!

Made a good start going bogey, bogey, double, bogey. Then came the aforementioned 600 yard par 5. Hit a reasonable drive after which the fairway it lined with water on both sides which zig zags in and out as the hole itself goes round to the right. Did my best to play it strategically and was doing OK until on my approach to the green I flushed an 8i like never before and it pitched at the back edge of the green and ran over :p From there I thinned my 52 degree and went of the front of the green. Came away with a nine :o Two poor three putts on the 8th and 9th meant I finished the front nine with a pair of eights.

Back nine had a couple of poor three putts and and several which burnt the lip :( Also found the water twice. The first unforgivably when laying up on the par 5 12th after hitting a very nice drive. The second off the tee of the par three 13th, very careless! Finished with four straight bogeys (10 for the round which must be a PB). 44 puts total according to my TaylorMade golf app, about the only thing I trust on it aside from yardages into the green. Clear there is a lot of room for improvement. The really pleasing thing today was the consistancy of my ball striking with the irons. Only one outright duff that I can recall. The wedges weren't so good again so a few shots lost there. Driving getting straighter, less of the really big fade I had before.

And that’s why I call Golf “whack- ****”.

So I did a thing despite saying I’d wait and order some fitted Taylor made stealth irons today. I only went in to get a new bag and ended up with one of the guys just trying out different builds and clubs for over 3 hours. A slight change in grip and the guy building the irons out to me I was consistently hitting them all dead straight or ever so slightly left. I really didn’t think fitting/clubs would make that much a difference but I was wrong.

Started trying out a few drivers too but I’d hit so many balls I decided it was best to find the driver and fairway another day when I was feeling fresh.

Now just to wait for them to be ready :D

I just setup my 14 day trial on my MLM2 with Awesome Golf, omg, is that software outstanding, it is very expensive but I think worth every penny. only on it for the last 15 minutes of my session, but am very impressed.

@booyaka do you use the AG software on your Garmin R10?

Going to pick up a G425 LST Driver and 3 Wood later this week for £280. Not a bad deal I thought, though will be inspecting them all over...

Nice - Love mine LST driver, max 3 wood and 7 wood.

Yeah I've heard good things. I've got a fitting at Scottsdale in September. I'd originally planned to have everything fitted for me but think the cost might be a little out of my range and cutting Driver is the best way to keep that down. Can always go back next year specifically for Driver and Woods.
