Where did you get the fitting? I want to buy some AP2s but I think I need some shaft options before I buy.

It was at American Golf. Basically when you hit a couple of balls with a certain club they have all of the data they need to stick you in a certain type of shaft to get those numbers closer to what they should be.

Your best bet if you actually want to try out the shafts is to go to Titleist's HQ, or find a truck that is coming round your area for a demo day and get fit there and then. I would have done this but didn't know what clubs i wanted at the time and wanted to try all of the brands out.

i wanted to share my upset with you all :(

Due to work / life / and general poor weather, i have been unable to play for the last 2 1/2 weeks.....Yesterday i finally got to tee of in glorious sunshine at 9:48.

From the first tee my round was off to a flyer.
Reaching the 10th it started to spit with rain and the winds picked up to a 2 club wind.
By the 13th it was terential down pour and i we had to go in :(

I was sooo close to having a full round and it was ripped away from me by teh weather at the 13th................GUTTED

Now the first frost has hit there will be many more before the spring comes round.. What do you lot do in the winter to keep going ? I myself go out no matter what :) played with an inch of snow on the green before just to keep swinging. I don't take much out of it through the winter because you get punished for good shots.

Anyone else think you should get shots back through the winter months... Got my handicap down to 8.. no way i can play enough through the winter to keep that going, i was arguing i want 2 shots back :)

OS

Usually keep myself ticking over at the range through the winter months. Putting on the best carpet you've got in your house also just keeps your eye in a touch. Do still go out on most weekends though unless its absolutely horrid.

If you really want, you can get those little orange plastic balls with air holes cut in them that act just like real balls on small shots, and chip them up and down your hall 12-15 feet :D

I just brought some winter mitts as well, i really do recommend them. So warm!

Sorely tempted to change my driver to a Ping G15 - anyone out there got one?? I do like my R7 SuperQuad but feel that since I've had that i've lost maybe about 10/15 yards over my previous Ping G2.

Got a set of PIng G10 irons about 18 months ago and it's been an excellent purchase. Much more consitant at striking the longer irons and handicapp has come down from 13 to 10 last year.

Any thoughts on the G15 Driver from Ping?

Its a nice driver, but before you go and buy it, test it out on either a launch monitor or at a range if possible against your superquad. Try to test it against newer similar drivers (Taylormade R9 etc) as well to make sure your buying the best club for you and not something that will fit your irons already :D

yeah would be trying before buying for sure! - loved my old Ping G2 and very tempted by the G15. It's seems a steal at £180 where as some of the R9's/Calloways/Titleists newer drivers are around the £250 mark.

Still hate the look of the square drivers!!

Square drivers in my experience look, feel and sound horrific. Unless they get a major overhaul i won't be going anywhere near them thats for sure!

My bad for recommending the R9 it is a little pricey :D

Perhaps the Taylormade Burner Model 09 - £179 or the Nike SQ Dymo at £199 would be more like it :) Just to give you a feel about whats out there as a comparison to the G15.

But like your already probably going to do, just stroll into a decent shop with a budget in mind and hit the hell out of as many as you can find (making sure they give you the right shaft stiffness) :D You'll probably end up coming away with a G15 as they are nice as i said above haha.

Tried the G15, couldn't get on with it at all, hooking it every 2nd shot. Tried the i15, that's a differen't beast all together, 8 degree head and stiff shaft, fantastic draw shot shape and added a good ten yards distance on top of my current 9.5 degree Nike Sumo (has a tendency to get up high and land hard meaning no roll).

If i was you, get down to a fitting centre where you can try loads out on a launch monitor and also pay for a fitting pro to be with you in the bay (usually the cost of one lesson), once you have it down to two/three drivers on the monitor the pro should be able to give you more info on which would suit you (dont just blindly trust the launch monitor, i had a go once and it told me i needed an XXS Grafalloy Pro Launch Red shaft which would have been nice if i wanted to pea roll it down the fairways!! :) )

Square drivers have their uses, they are very good at keeping the ball flight straighter than a normal headed driver, though that comes at a loss of distance and shot making ability.

Oh, just to add, a lot of my mates are Ping mad, none of them went for the G15, they all bought bargain G10 drivers which seemed just as good to them.

You probably liked the i15 driver after hooking the g15 as I believe the i15 has a 3 degree open face at address. Therefore it will stop you hooking the ball and produce a better drawing shot.

I got on with both clubs as I only play with a very small tail draw as my normal shot. Still much preferred my Taylormade Burner Tour TP to anything on the market at the moment though.

thanks gents - got some prize money/vouchers from last year burning a hole in my pocket so will get hitting some balls soon - just need to sneak the new driver into the bag so the missus doesn't see it!!!

Also got a new Vokey 52 degree wedge last week for my birthday (from the missus!!) and looking forward to getting out to hit some balls with that. To many marks on the carpet in the hall way now with practising inside!!

Careful you don't use your own best balls for abit, hitting full shots with a brand new wedge like a Vokey will rip them to shreds!

Just put the old headcover on it if you can keep hold of it, then scuff it up a bit and mention that you might buy a new headcover as that one is looking tatty. Either that or get her to buy you a novelty headcover for your driver for Xmas, then she'll never know what's under there! :D

Needs a bump.

been off the forums for a little while so a quick "aren't I lucky" update.

Was in Thailand for Christmas and managed three games at the wonderful Rayong Green Valley golf course. Great course but all three games were ruined by terrible etiquette.

The course now has a hotel next to it which was built with Korean investment and now all the korean guests get to play for next to nothing all day so charge about in golf carts looking for empty tee boxes! Irrespective of who else is one the course so if you get delayed on a hole, there's a good chance these guys will jump in front of you and then take 30 minutes to play the hole!

So on average each of the three games took five hours. In 35 degree heat. Not fun.

Holy smokes, that sounds crap! 5 hours for a round; i'd be pulling my hair out bigtime.

At the end of January i just picked up my new irons :D Nikey VR Blades with x100's. Damn these clubs are awesome sauce.

I've got a big itch for some new kit, not sure what i want yet, but i think i need something new and shiney in my bag! Played Balcomie Links (Crail golfing society) last weekend, it was -6c when we got out of the car at the course. Looked down the cliffs and there were guys surfing!!!! Have had a couple more games this weekend, fairly good, but just need to get that last bit of timing back.

Got my membership forms for the local club also, cant wait to get an 'official' handicap and get some match/medal golfing done.
