Decided there was a gap in the weather so popped out for a quick 9, almost wish I hadn't bothered :p

A combination of bad decision making and terrible ball striking makes for a painful round... Tops and Shanks all over the place :(

Realised on the way back (and should've done on the drive in) that I'm in a bit of an annoyed/angry mood which probably doesn't help... I mean who's on my roads at 11:30 on a Friday, shouldn't they be working?

Quick range session this lunchtime. Took a video of myself a while ago, realised that I have quite a short backswing (@Maccy never told me ). So concentrating on slowing my swing and feeling it come back further. Lead to a more relaxed downswing, so contacted the ball better. Downside though, now I loft the ball even more, it comes down with snow on it

Golf today was fine - cold and a bit windy but nothing too bad for this time of year.

Another solid if unspectacular round gross 79 less 6 for 73. Feels like that kind of year for me - played solid, nothing amazing, won nothing this year and still "adjusting" to being a 6 handicap - feel like I'm still more around 8/9.

One comp left next week and that's us done for the year - just winter stableford after that which is just play whatever course/greens are available.

Lovely weather for golf today, beautiful blue skies and reasonably warm, driving home my car reckoned 15c, lovely. Ground was a little damp in places, downside to shorts in this weather is my shins are covered in mud

Kinda ruined my round with 4 of the first 5 holes being utter trash (bogied the 2nd), I meant to do more warmup but ended up running a bit late so probably only myself to blame.

But after that I definitely got into the swing of things, specifically my driver got pretty hot, best of 229 yards in this weather with basically no roll out is very good for me.

Most annoying hole award goes for the par 4 7th, SI 1, never par'd and still never par'd :p Beatiful drive, 220 yards and any longer I would've been in a ditch. Decent second shot onto the green gotta love a GIR. 4 putt. 4! Ugh.

I 'ended' my contract yesterday so now get to play lots of golf (got a couple of morning calls today/tomorrow but that's it till at least January), shame it's at the end of the year but hey :p

Went out today to play 18 at my local course, decided I'd try carrying a full set which I don't think I've ever done, I've done a half-set over 18 holes, and a full set over 9 holes a bunch but this was the first time carrying a full set over 18. It wasn't too bad really, might do it more especially as I'm trying to build up my golf fitness in terms of doing 18 holes over consecutive days...

Front 9 went reasonably well, not perfectly as I still messed up the first and 4th holes but the rest was solid, 5-9 was actually level par (1 birdie, 1 bogey, 3 pars) which is another nice string of holes really. I tee'd off after a 4-ball but thankfully they were playing pretty quickly so strolling fairly sedately between shots and I wasn't being held up at all.

Unfortunately the back 9 not so good. I think a combination of being a bit tired but possibly the biggest thing was the pace of play. Tee'd off behind a 2 ball who were so slow, noticed it immediately and they offered to let me past on the 2nd (/11th) but I dislike playing through so I said I was fine, kinda assumed they'd speed up but they just didn't so lots of waiting and then the seemingly inevitable duffs making the waiting pointless :p Add in the group behind catching up for the last ~3 holes as well.

Off to play another 18 in Bristol tomorrow, gonna be walking but see how I feel about carrying again or using the trolley, either way I'm pretty sure my feet are gonna be sore by the end :( :p

I've got a fitting at American golf next week. What to expect? The phone call to confirm I was going to come ended in "let's see what we can build you". Is there a big push to buy at the end of it? I might wait for sales see, but kind of want to know what works for me and feels good so I'm ready to pounce. I can totally understand how this is annoying for them and they get the 4rse when I want to walk out at the end. Will they swing the driver at me for doing that? :)

I've heard mixed reports of AG, some people seem to get a great service with no pressure or anything but others get pressured to buy afterwards...

Not quite the same but went to AG near me to look at shoes a while back and had a pretty good experience, tried a bunch but nothing really fit well, no pressure to buy or anything and even said to look online for wide fit shoes.

I had the same experience at AG opposite The Trafford Centre

My experience at AG has always been really good.

I got fitted there for my irons and the guy was absolutely brand new. Gave me clubs, let me hit them, gave me numbers, but ultimately let me decide on which ones I wanted. Never pressured me at all to go for the expensive set, just whatever ones I liked best.

Used their simulator at the start of the year to get an ex-demo driver. Different guy but again, great with no pressure what so ever.

Was in a couple of months ago to pick up a couple of wee things and was curious to try a couple of wedges with no intention of buying and the guy let me jump on the sim again just to have a play for 20 minutes when he knew I wasn't going to buy anything. I was looking for a gap wedge that's an inch longer and the guy even told me to have a look online to see if I can find one that would match my set instead of him fitting me for a single club.

The one I've been to in Watford has been great, never had any pressure - few years ago I ended up getting a driver lesson from the fitter!

Haven't touched a club in almost two weeks now. Feeling severely under golfed which is no good thing considering I'm playing the Brabazon on the 05/11... Going to have to force a few round in before then else it's likely to eat me alive.

Has anyone ever had to return a golf club bought online? Not sure if I need to box the whole thing up (I don't have such a box...) or just protecting the head is sufficient? It was part of a set, something has come loose inside the driver head, sounds like a small ball bearing pinging round in it.

I ended up managing to get an appointment at a different American Golf earlier today (to get it done sooner) for my son to get him a driver. Turned up and had to wait ages for the previous session to finish. Store was not very busy. A customer came in with his kid and promptly left. Didn't seem very satisfied after chatting to someone about something. Boxes all over the floor. Wasn't filling me with confidence but onwards.

Got into the custom fit area and I have to say overall I found it less helpful than watching some youtube videos on what to buy. It was that bad. I'm not going to call out name/description of person or store as I don't want to really do that as it will be obvious who the person was, but...yeah it was really rubbish.
The area you swing in was simply not big enough. On my lads backswing, he hit the net and some other clubs a couple of times early on, and member of staff just stayed quiet, rather than going "don't worry", so the whole time he was worried and had to adapt his swing to come more inside on the back swing, to not hit a bloomin net! I mean wtf!?

Numbers started coming up, but instantly flashed away so I couldn't really have discussions about numbers. Staff member didn't really want to or seem interested in doing so either. I mentioned I saw the ball speed and did they have swing speed to help see for which shafts would suit and the response was "no we don't have swing speed as it's not for coaching". Whatever that means. The tees were quite low as well. I mean this is fundamental stuff here. It was not an adjustable tee, just literally tees, and the bit you hit off the mat seemed to be inset and slightly lower to give just enough difference that normal tee height was slightly lower. That threw him off too.

Staff member gave him literally one random club to try to see if a higher loft helped, but no mention of what shaft it was. Just some random Wilson club. I asked if he could try a Taylormade M4, Stealth, Ping G430, etc etc. Even just a couple of the ones they actually had on the shopfloor. They had an excuse for every single one as to why he couldn't. Was very weird. The advice was totally conflicting and confusing and they just did not seem to really want to sell us anything. In the end I cut it short and politely thanked them and left. It was going no where.

I was expecting them to analyse the numbers, have a load of shafts and heads ready to try, and generally advise on what he needed.

I'm going to put this down as just a bad store I think, and try another one. What do you guys think?

It is very up and down with AG. Been to 3 separate stores and generally speaking all the staff where polite but the facilities were average at best, though none quite so bad as what you described.

I think unless you hit the jackpot and get a really experienced member of staff then really it's just a place to visit and try new models for free/check out the clothes clearance section/kill 15 minutes whilst the misses does a trip round NEXT.
