Sorry to say but I'm watching the World Golf matchplay and am glad Holmes lost to Watson. You tell me, is this cheating?

He's under a bush in waste ground. His normal stance gives him no shot and he would need to take an unplayable. So he says "I want to play this left-handed but there is a sprinkler head there so I want relief". Rules official says "OK" so Holmes moves his ball by a club length. Now he doesn't need to play left-handed but perhaps he should still have to? Anyway, he now says I want to play towards that bunker there (not where the green is at all!) but to do that I would need to stand on that sprinkler head so I want relief. Rules official agrees and Holmes now gets another drop a further club length away. Now he has a great lie and no problems so now hits towards the green.

So this is BS to me. The first excuse was based on wanting to play left-handed so after the move he should still have to do that. The second excuse was based on taking a ridiculous direction from where he was standing so he should then have to take that direction after his second drop.

This may be in the rules but it's sure as hell not in the spirit of them. Anyway, he lost the hole which enabled Bubba to take the match to sudden death and Holmes had no choice after a terrible shot to take an unplayable and ultimately lost that hole to go out.

Perhaps the golfing Gods took their vengeance?

I absolutely see where your coming from but by the letter of the law he's fine and all within the rules.

However, imagine I said something similar in a Saturday morning four ball "i want to play this shot left handed etc - I would be laughed off the course.

Pro's know how to use the rules to their advantage and there is nothing wrong with that but I do agree that it's a little "not in the spirit of the game" but by the letter of the law - he's fine.

Even the carry on @ 19th hole when it took them about 35 mins to agree where he had to drop the ball.

I'm not saying he cheated by the official rules of the game but I believe he broke the spirit of the game. I do think the rules should be simpler. The pros get away with murder compared to you and me. Remember Tiger getting the fans to move a sodding great boulder which he then claimed proved it was a "loose impediment"! When we play a course with brutal rough, we lose balls and that's a real penalty. The pros have TV cameras, marshalls and hundreds of fans to help them find the bloody things.

I'd love to play on courses as perfect as they do, with a professional bag-man to tell me yardages and to let me concentrate on hitting the ball rather than repairing my own divots, pitch marks, holding flags, raking bunkers, cleaning balls, etc. I'd love to have crowds to help me find my ball.

Mind you, I'd hate to have to play at their speed. That would drive me spare!

Back and have fallen out with the golfing Karma gods! Had a great couple of days at Crail playing Links golf, shot an 82 which is 3 under my current handicap, on the way back i get snapped by a 'safety' camera van! 3pts & £60 probably wining its way in the post as we speak!

on the A9 between Perth and Stirling by per chance?? Just south of Gleneagles?

Always there if it was that one!

Nah, was the A66 from Penrith to Scotch Corner. Nicely placed for safety though, a stretch of dual carriageway after a long stretch of single carriageway, will have got loads as people make a mad dash to get past the queue of lorries/caravans whilst the dual carriageway lasts.

First round in about 5 months today!! Not bad - hit the ball ok - some scrappy chipping and putting which is to be expected!

Off to play "The Carrick" at Loch Lomond next saturday - i think a lot of golf balls will be needed for that one!

Good luck with that, awesome course.

Played Shirehampton yesterday, which we got for £12 each via Teeofftimes.co.uk, shot 86 with a 6 on the last :(.
Nice little course, with a couple of brutal par4's, one in excess of 475 yds !!

Off to play The Brabazon course at The Belfry on Wednesday, so like you, i may need a few balls :D

Treated myself to a TM R11, driving is carrying about the same distance as the Nike Sumo it replaced, but with the stiffer shaft it's giving me less spin so is rolling out more. Drove the 316yd par 4 17th at our place today with it which i've never done before. Still only managed 33pts though.

Got to have balls to stand up with a white driver!!:D:D

Haha. Saying that my back is in agony today form that drive at the 17th, really had to wind it up to get it that far! Hitting at the range had a ball speed of around 140mph with usual swing but did have a go at lashing the nuts off it up there and got ball speed up to 152mph.

Was a bit daunting on the first, hadnt even got out of the car park when people were coming up asking to look at it. Got round to the first tee which is right where the back door of the bar is to find about 15 people all outside waiting for me to hit it! Haha. Thankfully my mate played first and topped his (got a round of applause though!) then i tanked mine straight down the middle. Shame i topped my 7i next shot though (but they had all gone by then :))

Played first round of the year at Wildwood on the 6th. The yardage markers were so faded that on the fist I thought it was the 100 marker but it turned out to be the 150 so needless to say I was alittle short with my second! DOH!

It kinda set the scene for the day. On every hole there seemed to be a crap shot but then it finally clicked with a nice steady par four at the seventeenth and then a gross eagle at the 475-yard par-5 eighteenth! Drive to the fairway leaving 185 uphill with some trees preventing a lofted shot. Hit my 1-iron to 12-feet and made the putt!

First eagle in my life and a proper one rather than a fluky holed shot from distance. Isn't golf wonderful?

A 1 iron :o old school ;)

Well I played with my new X22's on Saturday, society day at Dummer GC, nr Basingstoke. Scored 38pts (gross 75, par is 71) off 6, and am now cut to 4 :)

First time on a coarse with them, needless to say I love em. Not a great coarse though, got some nice holes, but it's quite short, and very forgiving. Not that as the reason for my score, I just played well.

Looking forward to the better weather to get out more, wish I was out there today :(

Played The Carrick (@ Loch Lomond) today, nice views, stayed dry but the course is awful condition. Whilst I appreciate that it is early in the season, there is no way that course will be ready over next few weeks for a season worth of golf. Greens were terrible, fed, sandy, hollow cored etc etc. 50-60% of the bunkers on the course were GUR, mats on par 3 for tees etc.

Glad it was a freebie but no way would I be paying for it in that condition. Also not forgetting 2 mates who paid £15 for 1 bacon roll and a coffee each!! (i.e 2 x bacon, 2x coffees). You could have a bowl of soup for £6.95!!!!!

Booked up for a weekend at Glengeagles in June with a few guys from work. Playing the King's and Queens courses. Also bought a new set of G15 Ping's to celebrate the occasion :p!. Ok ok, didn't just buy it for that, but bought it from a rich guy down the club that thought he needed an even better set to sort out his game.

That's what I'm told. Apparently Queens is the easier of the two and should be played before Kings. Ladies first and all that. I'll try and study videos beforehand to figure out a game plan.

Had the first medal of the year last Sunday, played really well, 83 with a couple of 7s, got a 1.2 cut so now down to 13..Have another one this Sunday, would need a 0.8 cut to get to 12, if i can get down to that by the end of the season would be well happy.

Golf bug it back:D

PS. i picked up a new bag, Sun mountain four 5, anyone have one and what are your thoughts of them.

cheers
