Really tempted to buy a Skycaddie for this season :)

Whats the coverage like for them though. I worry about going somewhere and not getting a GPS signal or something, at least with my iPhone I know I will have 3's network coverage.

And im wondering if the new SGXw is really worth £60 more than the standard SGX.

Never had a SkyCaddie myself, but got mates with them, have to say, GolfShot GPS on the iPhone is as good imo, and these days you can even get clips for your bag for your iPhone (not sure if it is available on Android... just thought I'd mention it :-))

It must have been the day for it today as I played out of my skin too! One of my best rounds at my home course, just a shame it was marred by three 3 putts, and a clumsy double on the last ]
That is an awesome front nine mate.
Two over gross with 5 bogeys and a double !! Jesus wept :D
What happened to your driving on the back nine ??

Played today and had a great round of 86 which included 5 pars and a birdie. Bar 2 not so good holes (5 on a par 3 and 7 on a par 4!) it was a really good round, missed one fairway all day which I was well pleased with.

Problem is I've now walked away wondering if getting new irons is wise after all

Lol nice round Diggsy.
Next time you have a bad round (if you do) you'll be saying, I wish i'd bought those irons !!
;)

You know i said one of my goals for this year was to break 80 ?
Well i've gone and done it today !!

79 round Taunton Vale, with a 7 and 3 putted the last, windy too.

Excellent round mate. All you need do now is score consistently...

Great round pmbuzz, congrats :) It must have been the day for it today as I played out of my skin too! One of my best rounds at my home course, just a shame it was marred by three 3 putts, and a clumsy double on the last

Coupe, do you play for a living? Except for a couple of loose shots your card was tremendous. Well done!

not wanting to get you in to trouble but technically under the current R&A rules you are not allowed to use your iphone on the course.

We recently had a issue raised by one member about another one using his iphone on the course

Rules we had to refer to as follows:

Q. What about multi-functional devices, such as a mobile phone, with a distance measuring application?

A. On the course, subject to any club or course regulations, a multi-functional device may be used to phone, text or email – provided the purpose is not a breach of the Rules, e.g. you are not asking for advice.

When an application that measures distance has been downloaded to the device, the application must be restricted to providing only distance information in order to conform to the Local Rule. If there are any other features or applications on the phone that gauge or measure other conditions that might affect a player’s play, such as a temperature gauge, compass or anemometer, this would render the device non-conforming regardless of whether these other features or applications are used or not.

So basically whether you use the features or not - your not allowed to use an iphone or alike on the course.

Went for a shower on sat morning, heard someone running up and down the stairs like a elephant! Came out and had a word with mum and dad, took my cereal upstairs to be confronted with a new golf bag and my dads old 3+5 wood and a driver!

The old man done good! Kept it very quiet the old fox! Cant wait to go and give them a go, need a few lessons of course as I want to get them to start with so I dont pick up bad habits.

Went to the driving range last night this is what I learned:
6-9 iron PW/SW I hit sweet 90% of the time
5/4 iron need work but not to shabby

Woods shoot off to the right horribly every single time

Driver.....I cant use it......atall......bad...really bad....a ball actually somehow came back into the driving range 4 bays down....I dont know how.

^ 6-9, SW, PW - easiest, most forgiving clubs in the bag to hit.

3, 4, 5 irons are a little more difficult due to having less loft.

Woods are even more so, especially the driver as it has very very little loft.

Don't keep going back to the range until you've had a lesson - the basics ie: grip, stance, distance from the ball, ball positioning are all very important to get right and the lower the club number you try to use, the more you will see the effects of having any one of these wrong.

Yes I couldn't believe the start I had either! The back nine although shorter is considerably tighter than the front hence the difference in driving stats.

Haha cheers matey, I wish I did play for a living that would be the ultimate dream! Alas I just had an exceptional day on the course, and It certainly doesn't happen on a weekly basis.

Having said that I have been playing and practicing a lot more recently in my quest to get down to around 6 hdcp this season.

How often do those of you with a decent handicap play?

I played once a week for about 4 years when I was younger and went out yesterday and today and couldn't hit a thing. I'm hoping to get to a standard where I can go round in under 100 but it seems like a fair way off right now.

Thanks :)

I plan on waiting for pay day and getting an hour lesson.

I did manage to hit the driver sweetly once and it was such a great feeling...Im no good and im hooked!

Yup, nothing quite like striping one down the middle of the fairway, knocking one 2 feet from the pin or chipping in from off the green! Such an easy game to get addicted to, all it takes is one decent shot!!

So here's a question - why aren't there more sets of "same length" irons available?

I have the perfect swing on my 3 iron as the length of the shaft works for someone of my height. When I come up to an 8 or 9 iron my body has to be in an uncomfortable position to swing (and I tend to hit the top of the ball). The wedges are fine because I set up completely differently for those.

Would it not make sense to have just 1 length of iron so you can practice the perfect swing and have a rhythm for it, rather than master 6-7 slightly different swings?

The lie angle of the club is dictated by the loft and that effects the length of the shaft. The driver has the least lie angle and you are reaching for the ball , creating a wider swing plane with a longer club to gain distance. With your pitching wedge, you want finesse. This brings the ball closer to your body, . You need a straighter posture( more upright ) and a more confined swing for accuracy. That is why each shaft is a different length.

Picked up the clubs today, really pleased with them, they look great! Can't wait to get out for a rattle with them.

Just need a decent cart bag now with 14 full length dividers. Don't want to spend much over £100, any recommendations?
