Unashamedly promting a charity golf event I'm taking part in

http://www.justgiving.com/Mr-H-and-the-tee-totallers

I'm playing 4 rounds of golf in one day with 3 friends for Macmillan Cancer Support. 72 holes!!!

If anyone fancies even a small donation towards a great cause - it would be greatly welcomed!!

27th July 2012 - better get training!!!

Donated a little bit mate, Good Luck.

I've put a bit on Tiger too, WH have him at 4/1.
I did some each way bets too -
Keegan Bradley @ 40/1
Y.E Yang @ 80/1 (Now gone 125/1 :( )
Gary Woodland @ 80/1 ( Now gone to 125/1 :( )
Jason Day @ 33/1 (Now 40/1)

At the range today for a hit - felt better about my swing today after 2 dreadful rounds to start the year off.

Trying hard to swing down the line instead of my usual across the ball (out to in).

Also working on keeping my wrist closed (almost hooded club face) on the way back.

The R11 rescue club was going really well - great feel to it! Fingers crossed for a better day on the course tomorrow

First society outing of the year and a measly 28 points. Lipped out 6 birdie chances from inside 4 feet, driving was ok, irons were spot on, around the green and putting killed me, though with 5 blobs (all from duffing too many around the green) and those lipped putts I would have been lokking good.

At least its given me an idea on what I need to work on!

A case of a score card not telling the whole story!

What a bizarre round

Tripled the first after an outrageous bad plugged ball in the bunker. it was so deep in the sand up the face of the bunker you could see about a 5p's worth of the ball and my playing partner actually had to dig round the ball to confirm that it was mine!! Had a swing at it and didn't move it so had to take a penalty drop in the bunker!

Anyway - hitting the ball poorly for first 5 holes. A miraculous par at 6 after a tee shot that was easily 100 yards off line. A good 25 ft putt on 8 for birdie and the it all seems to settle down into "easy" golf. Hitting the shots and holing the putts no bother till 17, when I 3 putted from about 35 ft, and the last was a terrible finish.

150 yards for 3rd shot - 8 iron, pulled it about 15 yards left of the green, only about 18 yards from the flag, duff a chip and then 3 putt to confound the misery!!

One on hand I'm happy with a 70 after the start but on the other disappointed with the finish dropping 4 shots in last 3 holes.

Should still qualify for Stutt Cup which is a 32 man matchplay KO thru the year but still:rolleyes::rolleyes:

LOL
Just shows...... if you stick in there !!

:D

Played today, had a complete 'mare - 4x 3 putts and blocking all of my drives straight right, not happy :(

Will take away the chip-in for eagle I had on a par 5 though, awesome :D

Also, after I gave up on the driver I gave the new Mizuno JPX-Fli-Hi 3 hybrid a rattle and it's immense from the tee!! Great distance and arrow straight with a lovely very slight penetrating draw shape to it. Knocked it 230yds off the tee on the final hole! Who needs a driver :D :p

Got the urge to attempt to get back into golf this year :)

Used to play regularly when I was 8-16, spent a lot of weekends golfing in the East Neuk of Fife and St Andrews but I packed it in before I left school. Got back into it briefly in my mid twenties (2004) for a season and a half and was playing off 15 iirc.

Tried to get back into it last summer but I was still feeling the effects of a couple of injuries and I felt I was not doing myself any favours by playing golf (car accident in Mar 2009 which damaged ligaments in my left forearm and wrist, and a disc strain in my lower back sustained in Feb 2011).

So this is hopefully going to be the year. My father in law is a keen golfer so I should be able to get a few rounds in with him. Don't want to commit to a membership yet in case I aggrevate the injuries again.

I grabbed a set of callaway x-16 pro's last year from the bay, think I'm just going to get custom fitted next week and get a new set (I'm 6'3) - I'm not finding the callaways particularly forgiving!

Was at the range yesterday and today, 50 balls both days and mostly wedge and short irons to get my tempo and feel back, quite happy overall.

Best thing is, I got my old 2-ball putter back from my father in law, I passed it on to him when I packed it in in 2004, happy days

Hi mate -- long time no speak!!

Hope all is well with you!! Hope family life is good and your still taking cracking pictures!!!

Anyway - Custom fitted is well worth it - 6"3 myself so ended up with slightly longer irons than standard. Check out the ping range - very very good clubs. Loads to choose from.

Cheers Chris, aye all is good mate very busy times with work and the wee yin. Going forward (in theory!) I'll be hoping to spend a bit more time doing photography in the winter, and hopefully a bit of golf in the summer :) - likewise, hope you are all doing well!

Yep, Ping G15s are on the shortlist - prob just going to try out a few irons and see which one feels best on the range and then take it from there. Should have taken the plunge and got fitted years ago.

Watched the last 3 tournements on sky sports.....and.......

Is it just me, or do other peeps get REALLY annoyed at American comentators calling 'The Open Championship'.....'THE OPEN'

'The British Open'

Man it gets my back up!

sorry rant over.

Played another round today and although I opened with a 10 on a par 4, I managed to save par 3 times when I had driven into greenside bunkers. Also, my putting average was 2.0 for the round.
Still trying to focus on making a decent shoulder turn on the BS, but I think another lesson won't go amiss...
