Looks like we'll need to organise something up here for us! :D

A 7-hour jaunt for me to Swindon is maybe pushing it a bit.

Especially with what's at the end of the 7 hours :p

On the other hand I'm happy to travel 7 hours up there with Crail at the end of that :D

Over the last month, I've come across a number of nice balls to play with. For me, the Chromesoft X performs the best. It's very consistent all around but the best around the greens in checking up quickly and not just rolling out. The feel is good off any club. Not too soft or too firm.

My normal is the AD333 which compared to the others (ProV1/X, TP5/X, Chromesoft/X) is pretty just run of the mill but doesn't hurt as much when losing one lol After my boxes of AD333's disappear, I'll switch to it.

For the OCUK get together, we can be ballers at The Grove.

How realistic is the distance a golf balls carry is from a range mat compared to grass?

I took my 60 degree and I was hitting the ball about 80yds
SW about 100yds
PW about 125yds
9i about 140yds
Not sure if my swing has improved, and it is more difficult to get a feeling of whether a shot is pure from a mat.

Also, hit about a dozen balls with my driver, hitting around 180yds, not very long, but I believe I’m starting to overcome the slice shot which has always kept me from using the big stick.
What were you using for measurement, eyesight, personal launch monitor, range tracking?

My club has a Trackman range and with ball compensation turned on I'd say the distances with what I measure out on course using GPS match up very nicely, assuming I strike the ball first off course. As ArcticHeron said you can get away with fatting it off range mats, to a degree. I have another range local to me that uses TopTracer and that also matches up nicely with on course.

The range has barrels, tyres and boards with distances clearly marked, so I used them as a guide

Ad333 are my go to.

As for the grove, you paying?!

Cheating

My lad plays as part of a Junior team aged under 14 and the other day some of his fellow opponents he clearly caught cheating. When he called out a lad producing a ball from nowhere and dropping it down into play, he denied it and claimed he must have been mistaken. This was in a match against another local club. He's not come across this before. At the end I asked him if he wanted me to raise it and he said no as didn't want to come across as a bad loser and cause trouble.

The match was actually drawn in the end I believe. I'm wondering whether to raise it. They are young, some as young as 10, but I thought Golf was more where you tend to find sportsmanship flowing a bit more freely than other sports. A little disappointing but I guess you will always get some bad apples. I'm torn really because I want juniors to be able to feel they are not under the strictest of conditions and encourage them to play, but equally I think it's important to learn rules must apply.

What do you think?

That's a tough one. I'd have to raise it with the club captain, in the most non-bad-looser-ish way possible. Accept the loss, but worth mentioning what was seen, but will not be taking it further in this instance.
I thought golf was full of people who were totally honourable too, but like any sports, it's got a lot of cheaters in it as well. Dropping a ball in place of a lost ball is as bad as you can get, so definitely worth a mention IMO.

I usually use AD333’s but I’ve just purchased a dozen TaylorMade Soft Response balls which are meant to be good for high handicappers such as myself. I’ve found the odd Callaway whilst searching the rough, really like the feel of them, but they’re a bit expensive for losing in hazards.

My 48 costco Kirkland balls have arrived, I've put my line on 24 of them, ready to be used this weekend. Will let you know if I feel a difference in stopping power with my game.

Played 27 holes today, that's a first and even using a buggy on the first 18 it feels like a decently long day :p

First 18 was the usual at Woodlands, playing the harder course and not really that well... It was ok I guess but felt like one of those days where a tiny error was punished harshly so yeah, still good fun.

The I played the front 9 at Brinkworth Golf Club, got to use my county card for the first time for a whopping £2 reduction, worth it :p

First like 4.5 holes I played pretty well, then it kinda fell apart a bit, worst bit was repeating a poor decision after losing a ball, just stooopid.

Was thinking about 9 holes tomorrow but might just rest, got 18 holes again on Sunday and that'll be walking/society so competitive.

Managed to beat the light this evening and get a full 18 in after work. No hold ups at all so got round in 2:45 which is definitely on the quicker end of the spectrum. Was surprised to shot 95 as my play was distinctly meh and I had a couple of blow up holes  :p.

At least I just lost the one ball today, put my first tee shot on the par 3 third into the water. Terrible 8i, hit the ground a good 2" before the ball.

Argh, tore a muscle in my right forearm last Saturday when I was finishing my round. Not exactly sure what caused it but looking back there were 3 consecutive shots where I was trying to swing at >100% effort and a couple as well where I maybe got stuck in the turf momentarily at impact.

Gutted as the weather has been great all this week and next week as well, missing quite a few medals. No ETA for recovery but got a follow up session with physio in 10 days, hopefully will be able to play again before the season close.

Now, what to do with my spare time, I've dug out my hiking boots and I guess there is Starfield as well :)

TBH, since it's only the first part of your post-code, like Maccy has done, just respond here if interested. I'll get it added. I'll give it a few days and we can have a look at the results.
Ah missed this one, FK5 for me :)

Roasting out there today - much better ball striking today.....

Birdied 9 after a lovely wedge to 9ft, then canned a disgusting 47ft putt for a 2 on 10th for another birdie.

+1 standing on the 13th tee..... Just "lost" my swing a bit on the way in... Wasn't thinking about score or anything, just kind of disappeared on me.....

Could have been a stunner but still after the recent 6-8 weeks of garbage, felt better today. 30 putts with a 3 putt is good as well.

Course is baked out - needs water badly!

I can concur, it was very warm. Played quite decent for the first 7 holes then bang, an 8 on a par 4, 51 out. Back 9 was more inconsistent hitting 55. I felt really good on the front 9 confident of breaking 100, but too many duff shots ruined an otherwise decent round, really pleased the way I was hitting my driver, it being my most consistent club which is far from the norm.
