I wouldn't say my 1520 is chunky, the 6 is a little bit smaller in height and width but is also thicker.

I like the look of it though.

Yeah the 1520 is really sleek and thin, but a lot of other Lumia devices are brick like, when I say bring I mean its a uniformed thickness across, compared to most devices these days that are thick but tapper.

I might have missed something but why does this keep getting compared to the Note 4?
The main point of the Note 4 is its digitiser and pen surely?
Not sure why you would by a Nexus 6 instead of that or in fact a Note 4 instead of the Nexus 6?
Surely the likes of the One Plus One and Sony Z3 are closer competitors?

What I don't get is the note 4 price is ok, but the nexus 6 is overpriced lol. Galaxy alpha is an example of a device that's overpriced.

For some reason some people have some sort of stigma with price for a nexus device.

For the spec it is cheaper than equivalent devices, yet it is apparently overpriced. But more expensive devices that offer either similar spec or worse spec are reasonably priced.

The ironic thing is we don't even have a confirmed uk price. Yes we can assume it's not going to be 300 quid but even at say 549 for a 32gb device with that spec it's much cheaper than say a 16gb iPhone plus and I certainly wouldn't say the iPhone 6 plus is necessarily worth more, you just pay more for the apple badge.

Google are not obliged to subsidise phones, and for me personally this is the best specced phone they've released and will stay relevant longer than previous nexus devices in terms of spec in my opinion.

Samsung have traditionally always made the best specced android device, no nexus has been equivalent in spec to samsungs top end handset. The nexus 5 was outshone by the note 3 for example in terms of spec, and the lg G3.

The nexus 6 stands toe to toe with a note 4 in my opinion. Previous nexus devices have been highish end specs with clear compromises, whereas the nexus 6 for me is all out top end.

Google could never have gotten away with charging over 500 quid for something like the nexus 5. It was maybe at a push a 400 quid device, the nexus 6 is comfortably a 500 quidish device. If the nexus 6 was smaller with an lcd screen then it would have been a cheaper device.

I'm not being funny but there's devices running snapdragon 801's with 1080p lcd displays and 2gb ram for similar money...and again look at the Galaxy alpha, that's in the same price range sim free, and the spec is lower. The build isn't even that much more premium either, just a metal band round the edge. And spec of the alpha isn't even in the same league as the nexus 6, 4.7 inch 720p screen, 2 gb ram, snapdragon 801, not water resistant, no built in wireless charging as standard etc yet R.R.P IS AROUND £529 sim free £499 at the likes of clove etc)

Hmm Galaxy alpha or nexus 6, tough choice lol

Your post caused me to think a little more deeply about the issue you raise over Samsung, so pardon my "lateral thinking."

We all know that Samsung is slow to update its existing base of smartphones to the latest Android OS. It seems there is this love-hate relationship with Google.....hugely depending on them for Android (free use of the most wildly popular OS in the world) and quietly seething at the fact that they cannot seem to get their own OS (Tizen) off the ground. Since Samsung is the most important manufacturer in the Android ecosystem, it seems that the two parties should figure out a way to come together. They have already reached a cross-patent licensing agreement, announced earlier this year. But Samsung continues to push TouchWiz, which I appreciate many people seem to like but others hate.

One thing is clear to me about Nexus. Google goes to great pains to avoid rubbing its partners up the wrong way. The launch of Nexus is deliberately low key. It rotates partners almost every year. It has refused to work with Motorola (its subsidiary) until it announced Moto's sale to another partner, Lenovo. Yet Nexus also is a way for Google to show its partners what is possible with the newest version of Android while stimulating its developers to think Android first (in this case, Google has introduced 5,000 new APIs for developers to use). Yet Google still struggles with fragmentation----in which the partner manufacturers skin and customise Android around their own branding (bloatware), causing developers to have to make extra efforts to introduce apps to differing versions of Android. Google's efforts in reducing fragmentation has had some success---while it has seemingly withdrawn efforts around Android Silver to make the OS more uniformly presented (too much opposition from manufacturers), it is looking at the next 1 billion users of Android in emerging markets like India, Indonesia and Phillipines with Android One which will get Android 5.0 updated on their devices. I hope Google succeeds with Android One because I would like to see less fragmentation in the Android ecosystem, not more.

Google appears to be battling fragmentation planting its flag over new users rather than attempting to really force its OEMs to adapt over existing users. This is probably sensible and likely assist its efforts with developers. That is why, in my opinion, the Nexus programme is so important to Google and why it is likely to continue for many years to come.

We as users of Nexus can continue to enjoy the benefits of Google's efforts and can enjoy this healthy debate about the newest Nexus device every few months on Overclockers!

Went into the Apple shop in Liverpool yesterday (and resisted the desire to smack the nearby "genius'" giving out BS advice to every poor sod asking them a question.

Held an iPhone 6+ and found it simply too big. Don't get me wrong I can use it, and thanks to my big hands I can use it one handed too, but I can't for the life of me imagine constantly having it in my pocket, so I think the Nexus 6 might be a no-go for me :(. It's a shame, as the device looks incredibly both physically and on paper. Please let there be a Nexus 5+ or something...
