Google Pixel 8/8 Pro & Pixel Watch 2

Shame the satellite comms appears to have just died, it was a feature that would have made me upgrade.

Although I understand from a hardware point of view, the 5300 modem in the Pixel 7 range is capable of satellite connectivity, so maybe a software solution will make it's way around. It's a big deal feature for me.

There’s also the logistics of the feature. I believe Apple have relay stations to take and route satellite SOS messages.

Following the questionnaire, the intuitive interface guides the user where to point their iPhone to connect and sends the initial message. This message includes the user’s questionnaire responses; location, including altitude; iPhone battery level; and Medical ID, if enabled. The questionnaire and follow-up messages are relayed directly via satellite to relay centres staffed by Apple‑trained specialists who can call for help on the user’s behalf. The transcript can also be shared with the user’s emergency contacts to keep them informed.

I paid £544 for my regular 8 on launch day, knowing full well it was a silly thing to do. I even say every year not to buy the pixels until around black Friday, but sometimes you just want what you want.

The mrs phone was all but dead, so she had an early Christmas present.

Surprisingly this is the first year I'm not even slightly tempted to upgrade. Even though I think the pixels SOC is a bit pants, I think I'll stick with it for a good few years.

Picked up a low-profile case for the Pixel 8 Pro. Have used these carbon fibre style cases for a number of years as they are very low profile and don't make an already large phone, bulkier. If you're prone to dropping your phone a lot then I wouldn't recommend them, I rarely drop a phone, and on the occasions I have, it's been protected by the case.

Have you got a link to that case.

anyone here from London using p8pro as contactless ?

its either my phone, or TFL readers...very often i struggle to get it to read the card and it's being declined...takes few attempts...

so no idea if my phone is buggered or it is the readers...but would be all readers ?

had no issue with paying in shops so far

Hey guys.
After checking out a tube video, there's something not right about my P8pro, the grid can't be changed, I would prefer it 5 apps wide, it's stuck on 4 wide. There is no option under Wallpaper & style (Home screen tab). Even going through settings, theres a mention of App Grid, but nothing actually there to change. I'm sorry if I've missed something, I briefly scanned through past pages of this thread but not found anything :(

Edit: Oh for goodness sake, I can't believe it was because an update had stalled. My App graid issue is now solved :)

Are the screens a bit rubbish I already have a couple of faint scratches on my Pro.
I'd had my OP7Pro for nearly 5 years with no marks.
I think I'll need to fit a screen protector which seems completely silly these days.

Anyone recommend a good car mount for the P8 Pro?
From a few pages back;

Gorilla glass victus 2 is more shatter resistant than gorilla glass 5, but the more shatter resistant the glass is the easier it will scratch. It seems most people prefer shatter resistance to scratch resistance, but personally I'd prefer the opposite as I don't use screen protectors.

I had a weird issue the other day, battery was being blitzed and it appeared YouTube was running in the background constantly even though I've not even opened the app on this phone.
Force stopped it, rebooted and unplugged 5:30am yesterday morning. Still going with 2% remaining.

Always worth manual restricting apps that you don't need to have background data on.

I noticed that the CPU is the main battery hog. Screen actually uses very little.
