GoPro 3

Incidentally the mic on it still suffers from the crackling from vibration. You can apparently stuff it using tissue or similar, ive had no success though. Had to order the frame with an external mic.

I'm looking to get one of these, I'm torn between black and silver edition

Is the black really worth the extra £100 or so?

I had the same dilemma and choose the Black because it came with the remote but I hear you say "the remotes only £80", well yeah that's true but there's the extra resolutions. I know recording at 4k is crazy and there ain't even tv's in most peoples living rooms to watch it on but it's good to know for future proofing I guess.

4k is stills only, iirc. Worth it if you're an amateur filmmaker and even then 1080/30 is a good standard on the silver.

Edit - it shoots 4k at 12fps, so brilliant if you want everyone to run round twice as fast.

Everyone dissing 4k is completely ignoring timelapses. Our quick test in Bristol:

Set the resolution to Original to play in 4k, if your computer can handle it :p

Not interested in the remote really as I can use my iPhone

Just not sure if I would be miffed that I didn't go for the black further down the line

Still not really the same as the previous product.

The purpose of the housing you posted is so the lens is uncovered so optically not restricted. That's no good on a motorbike or in most situations the camera was designed for.

Its the only option with Mic Access. Fine on a dry day.

Just got my Hero 3 Black edition and WOWZERS, in terms of quality and how buggy the firmware is. I think I am a beta tester. It works really well but randomly it freezes whilst turning on.

Anyone tried transferring pics/vids to iPad. I am thinking about the Camera Connection kit from Apple so I can view and edit out in the field, anyone tried this?
£25 from Apple , you can get a similar connection adaptor from e bay which works fine for around £6, loads of videos on you tube showing the process for the i pad .

Did you update the firmware Booner? Mine has been fairly stable throughout testing, the only time it locks itself up is when plugged into the PC, even then it's rare.
Having read through loads of posts on the Gopro user forums i can say that there are a few things that will help to keep problems at bay.
Always transfer your stuff via a card reader to pc.
Best not to use pc to charge battery use sperate charger /iphone charger ect .
Always formatt card before use and do it in the camera .

Not really, if you were using it on a dry day on a motorbike still, it would only take one stone flicked up off the road, or for it to loose the mount and you have a smashed lens. A total non issue in the housing, because that is what it is designed for, to protect an action camera and all you do is replace it.

So as I said before, its not the same as the specific skeleton housing they sold for the Hero2.

Think mine was a proper Friday afternoon lemon as I had to exchange my Black Edition after numerous faults. It decided to freeze and lock after the update, seemed to fix the problem by setting Photo as default startup. This was followed by the remote not connecting with camera and continuously searching. Wifi setting on gopro decided to randomly change so couldn't pair up with app every time. Final straw was battery dropping three bars within 15 mins whilst on standby with wifi off.

Rubbish, not had a problem doing it via the cable connected to pc and camera.

What? Whats the reasoning behind this?

Seriously?

Further to my earlier post, wow there's a big difference between the exchanged Gopros. Everything felt so much better, the menu system, the buttons, updating, way the remote and gopro sync. Really worth exchanging at first sight of gremlins guys.

Still have not bought one as I am pretty sure if i keep on entering their daily give away I will win.
But yeah a few have said there are problems with it but if it is just software it can be easily solved
