** GORGEOUS NEW LG 4K MONITOR - LG 27GN950-B PRE-ORDER NOW **

Hi guys! Could you please tell me what is it like to game on this monitor in 1080p? Is it too blurry? I'm considering buying it, but I have gtx 1060 6gb and I won't be able to play in 4k/1440p. I'll have to lower the resolution until I get a new graphic card sometime next year. I only play single player AAA games like RDR2, Valhalla etc. if that piece of information is important. And the same question for watching TV shows in 1080p because I watch movies and TV shows only on my monitor, is the image clear? :)

If your use case is only 1080p right now you might be better off waiting and upgrading next year along with the graphics card. There are bound to be more options or maybe better prices.

Sounds like the DisplayPort handshake problems I was having. I was also having to unplug the monitor constantly when switching tabs while playing a game in fullscreen mode, swapping between HDMI and DP input or simply when I would turn my pc on. Are you connecting the monitor to your PC via DisplayPort? Have you enabled the refresh rate OC?

If your answer is yes to the above, then its probably the DP cable. The supplied DP cable doesn't seem capable of handling 160Hz refresh rate. You need a DP cable that can send 8k 60Hz signal, one of which is discussed a couple replies up.
Hey, thanks for the info. I'm using the following cable (matches the specs you mentioned): https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B088H46Q3Y/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 so should be fine. I'm also not running refresh OC, so just standard 144Hz.

Weird thing is; as part of troubleshooting I swapped out the DP cable for the one I was using prior to the above upgrade and also tried HDMI and nothing worked... just more fingers pointing toward the monitor itself (as opposed to cables, ports, sources or protocols). Oh yeah I also tried the onboard graphics and even removed the GPU entirely from the system!

Well 1080p just for gaming and few shows that aren't coming out in 4k , everything else in 2160p, work, movies, TV shows. I use my PC for basically everything. And I'm more of a casual gamer, so I don't mind downscaling as long as it's not too blurry. Graphic cards are way expensive right now, I could buy it, but I don't want to pay insane price. So I'm gonna wait for the prices to come down which will probably be next spring or summer.

I've tried gaming at 1440 and that looks just fine, haven't tried 1080 although youtube videos at 1080 do look a lot less crisp and less "hd".

Does anyone else have issues with the brightness changing on its own? It's noticeable when on white web pages especially, goes dim for a bit then back to normal.

I don't have HDR on and tried disabling DFC in the menu.

I had the same issue - it was fixed once I turned off Smart Energy Saving under General from the OSD settings.

Sorry to say but that does sound like the monitor. When I was having my troubles I did some googling and it seemed to be an issue present in several LG monitors, you also mentioned having the same issue with your last LG monitor. If you have the patience to do an RMA and go to the back of the queue then I think you should do it, unless you (or someone else) can find a fix. At this price point there really should be no issues with the monitor.

You're right; at this price point there shouldn't be any issues, really. I can deal with things that can be resolved with firmware updates and tweaking settings on the panel etc but hardware level stuff (or just plain faulty if you will) is where line has to be methinks.

I think I'll explore the RMA route and see where it leads

Thanks! Is the glow issue better in person? On the video it looks like there's too much of it. And the 4k video looks glorious. :)
Oh wow, I'd have to say it is better in person. It looks pretty bad in those videos but I don't notice it being quite as bad as that IRL. I mean, I noticed the glow from the beginning but I believe that's an IPS attribute (correct me if I'm wrong) so haven't let it bother me too much and it also comes down to what's on screen. Whilst gaming I don't think I've noticed it at all and aside from that it's only really noticeable when the screen is blank or has black backgrounds... so not that often.

The one thing that does give me pause though is after hearing that some other people have experienced quality issues with their monitors and one of them I think said they specifically had issues with excessive glow and had RMA'd two screens before finding that the 3rd one was ok (I need to find that post again and check if I read it correctly though). I don't know if to my untrained eye my panel is 'normal' or 'excessively' glowy...

It is an IPS attribute, but in those videos it looks pretty bad, maybe the brightness is set too high. My current 23 inch IPS screen is set to 35% and there really isn't any glow when watching movies with dark scenes and black color is excellent. I've seen some comments on Reddit that said that lowering the brightness in both normal and HDR mode helped mitigate this issue.

That was me - I’m on my 3rd unit :-). I’d say this is the best out of the 3 - minimal IPS glow; it is still there but you don’t really notice it. Minimal BLB top left - very minor. There is a bright spot in bottom right - my first was returned for this (there were 3 on my first unit) - again this is minimal - I’m happy with this one(well think happy I’ll ever be!) - I just suppose I expected better QC from a big company like LG and a £749 monitor - bit naive on my part ;-)

agree with the don though - cyberpunk looks awesome on it - !!!
