Morning all,

I got a phone call from my beot last night, saying they've just been robbed at their work. I wasn't surprised by this fact as this is the second time his work has been robbed, by the same guys. He works at a video store, Block Busters.

Some guys came in there, pointed a guy to his head and asked for all the cash out of the tills. Obviously he just did as they asked. Then they went next door and robbed the Steers as well. It's a food take away place, make a lot of money on Wednesdays. As they have a special on those days.

In total they got away with around R13,000 and two customer's cars. :(

They guy who owns these stores is my boss at my work as well, this is the second time and the police are just useless. They arrived 10 minutes after it was reported in two cars and four cops got out with heavy machine guns. AK 47's I think and heavy chest protection.

Thing is, my Boss has now really got to take some security measures. As the place has no cameras and these guys know they can just get away with it!

My boet is okay though. :)

Sorry to hear that, i hope they get the evil ******* :(

Btw what is the R in front of 13000 for?

Rand... SA currency

Nasty mate. Sounds as though the police have little chance of catching them though, through their own incompetence.

I've just worked out that to be about £1,000 (and about AUD$2,500 for Zip :p)...

I'm glad nobody was seriously hurt... sounds so scary though...

:D

Quite a lot of money for a robbery of that sort though :(

Even though it may only be a thousand pound there, it's thirteen thousand Rand here. A lot of money. But I couldn't care less about it. Just glad they didn't harm my brother.

Watch there will be another thread here in two months, Robbed, again.

Oh, gosh, forgive me if I made it sound like it wasn't much money, I never meant that at all! I was just converting it to pounds to see how much it was, £1000 is a lot of money from a robbery like that, as Zip said!!

I don't mean to generalise about SA, but I'm surprised higher security measures aren't standard in shops etc, there? E.g. under the counter alarm buttons and cctv like you say or automated shutters...

Indeed, isn't SA one of the most, if not the most violent country in the world? (apart from countries in a war zone like Iraq naturally)

It's fine bro, I didn't mean it to sound like that and I know you didn't either. ;)

Beot = Brother. :cool:

Yes, you guys are right, I'm surprised my boss didn't install those sort of things the first time it happened.

What the hell... Jesus... How do people cope with living in fear of those things happening so often over there?? :(

Much worse bru. That's why I'm in Durban. Stayed in JoBurg until I was 11. Moved to Uk until I was 16. Now back here in Durban. Still love beeing back here though.

Why dont you shift to England or Australia?

Because I spent five years in England. Didn't like it. Too cold, too dull. :(

This is my home, and I love the hot climate and the people here along with our South African ways. Crime is bad, but you get that all over the world.
