*** Grand Theft Auto IV - The Official Thread ***

has anybodys preorders from the major retailers arrived this mornign - just wondering if it is worth looking forward to getting home from work..

I'm getting both versions :D
Don't tempt me! ;)
At the min i'm leaning for the 360 version, mainly because I know I'll play it for hours at a time and the ps3 sixaxis makes my hands ache like hell after 30 mins.

Either version 360/ps3 is going to be awesome, I just don't want my experience to be ruined by my hands hurting. Its probably a personal thing and doesn't affect everyone though...

Anyone know if there are any 3rd party PS3 controllers that are a different shape?

I'm posting on a forum, of course it's my opinion!!!

i know mate - i wasnt bashing you - just pointing out that the person you are replying to may find the game so good that they play it for ages

lots of old games have have an active online community

call of duty 2/battlefield 2/ghost recon etc

look at css on the pc - 4 years on and its still one of the worlds most played online cames

Reviewers succumbing to the hype and overrating the game (ala Halo 3 and Bioshock) is most definitely evidence of overhyping. Plus every early review will have a very high score if they want to keep the rights to review games early.

Ok so whats wrong with it then? justify why you think its overhyped. if you're so ademant that its not as good as people say then at least give some reasons

StarCraft a decade on is still played more than CSS, i get that, but those games were designed with multiplayer in mind and have depth to them.

i know what you mean - especially about them having depth to them

but i do think that there will be a massive online following to this

imo its going to be a bigger game than gears [sales wise] and that still has a massive community

i was trying to get the point of saints row across - its not a particularly great game - but you can always find a game on there

so i think with gta having a large fan base already then it will be full of games for a few years at least

personally i have too many consoles and games so i will be devoting my time to my fps and racing games just as much as gta - but i think that a lot of people will make it their online multiplayer game of choice

Would I be right in thinking some of the more dismissive opinions are from people who have 'downloaded' the game? It would seem that people who pay money for it will be getting the most from the investment, and no doubt be 'looking' for the good bits etc, the people who just download it, blast through it and don't always invest the time/effort to get the best of the games.
Of course, it's nice to have both views, you know the truth to be somewhere in the middle..

the only opinion that matters is your own really - reviews and opinions are just guidelines

It does offer a new experience? Next gen graphics/freefroam, online multiplayer, minigames, mobile phone and drink driving etc

Surely this is a new experience worth the extra score? (not taking sides here, I hate arguing about games and fanboyism etc.)

Yeah, but if you haven't got the game yet, you can only go by reviews/opinions..

I agree, once you have the game, the only persons opinion that matters is your own..

I'm still in two minds whether to get it or not... and it's nice to hear different opinions, but I like to put their opinions into context, that is all..
