*** Grand Theft Auto IV - The Official Thread ***

outside chester, i went into town, as in chester town in a store next door to BHS if anyone knows ;)

Yesterday a certain store in the greyhound park had the game as I was going to go there but I went to Wrexham instead. All their stores say sold out on the website now though. :(

I'm amazed people are criticizing the graphics of GTA4. It's exceptional what they've managed to do. It really is.

The blurring of buildings in the distance is phenomenal and such a fantastic feature (it's been done before, but I've never seen it done so well). Then there are the sheer number of textures of which most of them are fantastic.

Unlucky dude. I see the people who were claiming anyone would be able to walk into a store on launch day and get one have suddenly kept quiet.

Pretty sure it was me that said that.. and bet that i'd eat my XBox if i couldn't.. also pretty sure I haven't kept quiet either :)

To be fair, I played with 15 other lads in MP last night of which only 1 pre-ordered and he didn't even pick that pre-order up.

Also don't forget in previous GTA games a row of shops or houses was pretty much a flat box with a texture wrapped on it, now the buildings are intricate and exquisitely detailed.

Look beyond the DoF squabble and actually take a close look at the quality and the detail, not to mention the amount of time and effort that went into designing the city, buildings and environment.

I think it is outstanding.

:)

Stupid ****** Stores ! i rang a games store up at 11.30am......

Asked if they had any in stock they said yes, i asked about 360 versions, could they check if they definatly had them in, she said yes we have quite allot actually, off i pop, literally running to train station pay 2.70 on train ticket, got at the store at id say 12.45.......

and :(

''Sold Out''

So much for the ''Quite a Allot'', hardly anyone in town either.

So the morale of that story is : When you phoned them, ask them if they could put it back for you for when you get there.

It must be gutting though. Have you managed to find a copy anywhere else ?

its the blurring in the forground that people are complaining about, not anything else. well, thats and the frame rate issues but they arent too bad. i mean come on, even the hud and phone is blurred lol turning the sharpness up on my tv pretty much solves it completely though, so its not all bad. at least i can say the sharpness control is good for something now:p

The hud isn't too bad. It's not razor sharp, but it's not bad.
I've only noticed one frame-rate dip and it's as I flew over a hill into a car, a few lamp posts and pedestrians. :p

I'm on the 360 version. Don't know the differences outside of DLC. As I said before, I knew nothing of what GTA4 was about before buying it :p.

 there's either something seriously wrong with a) your eyesight b) your set-up or c) the PS3 version if your hud and phone is blurred.

I play on a el' cheapo Handspree 36" LCD-TV via HDMI on the 360, and it looks ace

1) my eyesight is pin sharp...with glasses:p
2) my setup is as good as it'll get
3) you are playing on a 360! there are shots in this very thread that compare both and the ps3 version is definately worse

I just want the game to be sharper than it is... I'm starting to think that this issue might actually be worse on the PS3.

No doubt in my mind that the Xbox360 looks much sharper and textures look cleaner.

i mean...look at them! even with those tiny pictures you can see how bad it is lol:p

i wonder how many copies they would have sold on launch day/week if they had enough copies to go round?

bummer, mine looks loads clearer than either of those 360 or PS3 shots!
And thats without adjusting the sharpness on the screen.
For the record I have the 360 set to 1080i, in game contrast up a couple of notches and thats it.

I totally agree.

When you take a step back and take a look at how much game you are getting for your money, you will be hard pushed to find anything that comes close. The graphics look great for a GTA title imo - I have only noticed pop-up and slowdown once in some twenty plus hours of play and thats when I was being chase by the police through a very busy part of the city and I crashed. I don't normally notice framerate issues anyway though - I think some people are a lot more sensitive to it than me... my gain really :D

The amount of detail which has gone into this game is astounding it really is. No wonder it cost over $100 million to make
