I was just expecting someone to defend the game with their life, it happened.

It's an amazing game, I'm totally hooked. Game of the year. But the shadows look rubbish, sorry.

Edit: My good friend Mr. Sly just linked me to this, shows what I mean exactly.

take it you are talking about PS3?

I've now froze 3 times :(

Gets pretty annoying to be honest and is unacceptable with this type of game where you can play for 30-40 minutes without a save only to lose it.

The game has one of the largest and most detailed game worlds ever created. Many people are having issues, while just as many aren't. It is to be expected that there will be problems. Anybody remember the framerate issues in GTA3 on the PS2 when it started raining?

Rockstar has continually produced excellent games, so starting rumours that they intentially ignored issues to rush it out the door is absurd. In addition, the "solution" they have presented is temporary; a stop-gap to allow you to continue play the game until they release a fix. It is no way intended as the end-all to all your problems.
 
I never had any lock ups on my PS3 version until reading about it, now my PS3 feels left out so has decided to join in and lock up every other time I try start it up and load the game
 
I've had a few PS3 crashes today.

Pretty annoying. In the end, the game would just not load up - I had to delete a number of saved games and lose about an hour's play before I could get going again.

I'm about 30% of the way in - just having moved forward with the secret contact (no spoilers here!). Where have the other PS3 crashes occurred?

Just disconnect your ps3 from the net to solve the lock ups.
