*** Grand Theft Auto IV - The Official Thread ***

Well it is only a 40 inch you are using.
I don't see the huge differences you are on about and i am using a 40 inch Bravia too, although not a W series.

lol @ you lot the console forums are so bad no wonder I barely post in here now full of people with opinions on "whats the best" and trying to make silly arguements out of it. Heres an idea GO OUTSIDE OR PLAY GAMES FOR FUN get over it.

mentally ill? you should be suspended right now for that.

Then stop acting like you are then, you used to be alright on these boards.

no you are not listening. i never said being sharper than it should looks better, i said it wasnt AS shartp as it should be. it's not wanting sharpening its wanting it where it should be.

lol, actually you said this,

its not acceptable on the ps3

you also said,

its blindingly obvious on a big screen

ummmm, so your not saying it's better are you .

i really couldn't care less. how many people here have said they cant see a difference and turned out to own small monitors or 720p lcd's? how many people here have said they cant see it yet they are only using low res videos and photos to compare them?

What are you going on about lol, who said they couldn't see a difference ?, I never did, the majority people on the gaf comparison thread never said they couldn't see a difference, in-fact many people can see a difference, your really not paying attention are you, read this slowly, I can see the difference but I still prefer the PS3 version, other people can see a difference and also prefer the PS3 version, other people also prefer the 360 version, even though they can see the difference, ok.

thats because like looking through frosted glass. if i were to place a piece of glass over the top of my tv, it would looked exactly like that. get it?

On my TV it doesn't look like that, on my friends TV's it doesn't look like that, I'm sure many people on here that own the PS3 will also tell you the same, but know, you are right, and everybody else is wrong.

lol well i never said i didn't like the 360 shadows either. but guess what, the ps3 shadows suffer from problems as well.

lol again, where have I said you didn't like the 360 shadows ? what you quoted was my opinion, not yours, get with the programme please, also yes the PS3 version has dithering on the edge of the shadows but because of the filter it looks allot smoother, this is something that nearly everyone agrees on, although no doubt you won't.

yes of course it is. other games are fine. other consoles are fine. my pc is fine and bluray is fine./ so it must be the tv. you're a genius.

If your telling me that GTV IV looks like your viewing it through frosted glass then your TV is broke or you need glasses, simple as.

im not the only person who's noticed it. it just seems like im the only one willing to prove it to people like him. why i dont know.

ps3 shadows

What do these shadows prove ?, wheres the comparison shot ?, like the one I posted here,

only lol. yes ok i admit it, 40" tv's are no longer 'big' but they are still bigger then the majority of screens people are using to compare. have you been over to avforums yet? if you havent take a look, might squeeze a bit more out of your tv:)

my word lowrider, you are ignorant.

ps3 shadows

Right after nearly a week of playing it, and letting the hype leave the system

My verdict of the game is 7/10. It really isn't that special. It's nothing on Vice City

90% of the missions are so unimaginative its untrue, pretty much all of them involve you shooting about 20 people then losing your wanted level. Fun the first few times but boring after that.

As well as that, and I've already said this in the multiplayer thread, that just seems rushed, now I spent the best part of Saturday online with a few friends, and we all agreed, that apart from the "oh my god its GTA online" value, there really isnt much to it and it just feels rushed and tacked on for the sake of it

Another problem I have, why do I keep getting all of this money? I have near 600k, and naff all to spend it on. I spend about 10k on guns every few missions, but other than that, nothing. Food is $5 at a time, taxi fares are barely anything. What about the properties or something. Otherwise I don't see the point in the amount of money at all

The characters are also all pretty dull. Other than Brucie, none of them seem like your typical GTA characters, something quirky or hilariously messed up about them. They're all just rather plain. And certain choices in the game are rather pointless when you have been given no emotional attachment to certain characters other than a couple of missions between them. Also, whats with the girlfriend system? I have 4 girls at 100% now, and I really haven't seen these benefits that the game mentioned at the start of the game. And other than to pass two minutes, I really can't see another purpose. I'm not moaning about that, but, it just feels like yet another feature thrown on just for the sake of having it

There are quite a few glitches in the game too most annoying of which is if my motorbike flips over upside down, my character seems too stupid to turn it over, even though if its turned on its side down an impossibly thin alley he'll do it just fine. which can cost you a mission.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great game, but it certainly isnt game of the year, it's just a game that was carried way too far by its hype.

Flame away if you must
100% agree.

Its quite hard to explain but something is lacking from this game that the other GTAs had. When I play it I can't help but feel Vice City was the much better game. It had more personality, more fun and imaginative missions and characters.

Even the radio seems poorer than the past games. OK nothing will beat VC in this area IMO, but there seems to be no imagination put into it.

Its a very well made and GOOD game! But I don't know... it just seems a little stale.

I know only lol
But the way you are going on about people using screen sizes it is like they are using a 32inch and you are on a 54 or bigger. :)

I went over for 5 mins and meant to go back and never did. I will do though :)

no no no lol. i mean most of the people here are doing so on small screens or monitors. i am glad people lare happy with gta4 on the ps3, i really am. it only makes it more enjoyable for them. i didnt pay a LOT of money (especially by my standards) for my home cinema stuff to get results like that. that is why im disappointed.

Yeah i think it just feels a bit shallow. Maybe they held back deliberatly so GTA:IV:Vice City will be great?
I just seem to be plodding long doing missions and not much else. I liked it in the others when i would turn a corner and go 'oh a packet of coke' and get it for my hidden packages.
The radio sucks, rock radio is awfull i can barely tell 1 station from the other. The only one i always know i am on is J 'n' R.

Also is it just be or has it became really easy?? I think i have only restarted 3 missions and that was usually due to something silly like not keeping up with the train first time out. I remember playing missions a dozen times trying to get it. I have never been arrested, and it is too easy to lose a 3 star wanted level.

Im finding it quite boring now, the missions are very repetitive and currently there's no missions coming up and everyone i ring is busy or doesnt answer! There's only so long I can drive around doing stunt jumps, but, I havent tried multiplayer yet so i expect there's fun to be had there.

How far in are you? It is possible you haven't phoned the right person.

i have noticed this! you only need a fast enough car and your away within seconds. if your near a paint and spray its even worse. as long as they dont have a direct line of sight when you enter, there goes your wanted level

I have a 40W2000 and sharpness is at minimum according to many posts from AVForums, you do not need any sharpening at all with a PS3/360
Also disable all extra features like noise reduction, live colour and colourspace as that crap is for analogue TV
Contrast max and backlight to ~4

I agree, usually I just drive out of the flashing circle, out of sight and the wanted level is gone.

Also I think you can take more hits before being killed, I also fell off a crane in a mission and I wasn't dead.

how do you feel about this game?

gta4 normal settings on TV
gta4 sharpness 26 on tv

just for comparison

gt5p no sharpening (but a little barrel roll from the camera for good will:p)

What do these shadows prove ?, where the comaprsion shot, like the one I posted here,

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/sho...postcount=4757

i have already said previously, those comparison shots from that site arent the best. there are jpeg artifacts in the 360 shots and the ps3 shots there is strangly almost none. now i dont know whether its because that ps3 shot is so blurry or not, but i dont think its a good basis for a comparison - if they wanted an absolute fair comparison of both, they should have used larger pics with no compression artifacts. why would you even say its my eyes lol. my photos arent lying. but what does it prove? well, that the ps3 shadows arent much better than the 360 shadows lol

Think I'm gonna have to hook this up to my monitor because I can't see squat at night unless I'm really close to the screen, which is kinda hard with the sitting arrangement of the TV and the sofa. So playing this at my desk via my monitor seems to be the temporary solution for those night scenes.

What format? I have noticed the PS3 is a bit darker at night than the 360

I just don't understand the fuss and all the 10/10's. Really do prefer Saints Row in pretty much every way.

It's funny i would have never gave saints row a look because i heard something negative about it somewhere but i got it as a present at christmas and have to say it's a great game, i thought it was well up there with previous gta games plus some improvements, what a pleasant surprise and made me realise i should give things a fair look in future, looking forward to the next one. :)
