*** Grand Theft Auto IV - The Official Thread ***

Went for the revenge path only to receive a call from Kate asking for a date afterwards :\

Pretty common glitch I heard.

I still have the original save before making the final decision so am going to play through the other ending path.

- Graphics are good but just really hard to see in the dark / in shadows ? Is this normal or should I just crank up the brightness ?

What version do you have?

If Xbox 360 then you'll probably have to turn up the brightness, 360 by default has a non-standard gamma output which greatly exaggerates dark areas/contrast.

If PS3 make sure you aren't using RGB Full on a non-supported TV, otherwise you'll be suffering from black crush.

Thanks, it's the 360. I'll try that tonight only got a chance to play for an hour last night.....

Isn't reference levels Expanded on the 360 the same as full RGB on the PS3? Maybe he should check that also?

Anyway I've found that GTA4 on default ingame settings is just a really dark game. All other games are absolutely fine for me, featuring pristine shadow detail, but on GTA4 it's really bad at default in-game brightness/contrast settings.

Yeah good point I didn't think of that, I don't think many people used the expanded RGB levels of 360 though as it's dark enough out of the box.

What do you mean? Expanded will actually give you a brighter image, but as you said you lose massively on shadow detail if your TV doesn't support full RGB. Remember you have to recalibrate the brightness setting on your TV for each reference level setting.

My GTA IV is still freezing fairly often, even with the latest patch and FW. I've also tried deleting game data and reinstalling! I think I may trade it in for the 360 version.

ok not sure if it is my setup but the graphics not that great ?

The detail is very good such as smashing windows and blood on the bonnet when you run someone over. However stuff even a few meters in front of you is blurred.

So when you're driving failing quick you can't really see the cars ahead of you ?

They use blurring instead of fog to make the distance visible, however it shouldn't be "a few meters in front of you". Only the far distance should be blurred, and driving certainly shouldn't be hampered.

I'd check some screenshots/movies of actual gameplay to see how your game compares.

Thanks, I'll take some pics tonight. Just in comparison 'thnik' saints row the objects were much crisper.... hard to explain really. Everything in GTA seems 'dull' ?

Been hammering this again lately. Trying for 100%

Done all stunt jumps and having been doing the flying rats over the last week.

Printed off a map and everything.

Went through the whole city marking off every pigeon on the map.... AND THERE'S 3 LEFT!!! :(

How long did that take you to do out of interest? Is it fairly easy to find them once you get to the right spot, or are the maps you printed off quite vague? Got a link to them?
