Graphics Card Warranties (UK Only) - Let's see how good they really are!

Over a month with my main computer dead (unless I buy another card which spoils the point of RMA-ing the faulty one)

Having to send it back to Hong Kong for HiS to look at it is dire.

Poking OCUK again to see what the upper limit for the RMA time is :(

And my replacement 6950 is here with free Haribo :p

It was shipped in a "normal" IceQ box so I had a horrible few moments thinking they'd given me a "normal" IceQ 6950.

Relieved when I peeked inside and found the IceQ PLUS (a 6950 with the 6970 IceQ cooler) I was after.

overclockers dont really help matters to be honest. they are the only people who can put pressure on the board makers to produce a quicker system, instead they tell you to wait 28days. Until this is changed I wont buy gfx cards from ocuk (i buy all other pc bits from them) but instead go to a place with instant send out of replacement parts.

This is just a customer service issue!

With an HIS card i sent back to OCUK they sent me a new one from stock instantly.

For an XFX product they did not. I had to wait ages and moan many times before i was sent a replacement from stock.

Exactly my point Craig.

If ocuks threaten to stop stocking a manufacturers card then the company would probably change its ways. I wouldnt mind being told that this gfx card costs £20 more because the RMA service is a matter of 2-3 days. I just want to know that I am covered by a decent system and at present ocuk can't offer that service.

It's not just OCuk though it's everyone that is to an extent hamstrung by the manufacturers RMA process. It would probs take a concerted effort many large stockists to really have a significant impact on the current timescales.

There is one company that just sends out replacements when you contact them. They require your credit card info to make sure you send back the item. Its an area i would love ocuk to explore though i guess they might not have the volumes in sales to fund such a move.

I think it's ridiculous that ANY company could have plenty of stock which clearly wasn't in danger of goin out of stock any time soon and them not offering a replacement from their stock.

28 days is bad. It's bordering on acceptable at best.

OcUK and all their competitors really do need to take a look at their RMA procedures. It only takes one to start it off and the others will follow. It would make business sense for OcUK to be te first to dispatch RMA replacements from stock as soon as its deemed faulty. That's essentially what they have to do anyway, they just choose to draw the process out for some reason beknown only to the OcUK managers.

On another note, do any of ocuks managers actually frequent the forums; or do they have lives :p?

I guess there must be a cost for OCUK to do this. Would be an idea for a sort of insurance policy with ocuk to get your replacements for a small charge when purchasing. One obvious downside is it will encourage risky overclocking but then if we weren't supposed to overclock they would lock down the cards quite easily.
