Graphics Card Warranties (UK Only) - Let's see how good they really are!

Very good thread.

Feeling slightly more relaxed about my Asus 480, after reading the failure rate post on 480s and Asus in general. Seems like if it does go wrong, I'm going to have to be nagging OcUK about EU law though....

Saying that I did have a minor issue with it overheating last night I think. Windows switched down from Aero, then the screens completely disabled.... Presuming/hoping this was just a software glitch or something, and the card is still fine as I haven't had any other problems.

As for the guy who got the 480SOC replaced by a 580, I think that makes sense. If they were going to replace my 480 as it is now EOL, I'd be telling them a standard 570 wasn't acceptable as it only has 1280mbVRAM, compared to the 1.5GB the 480 has, which can make a difference at higher resolutions. I'd be happy to take a 2GB 570 mind. Also, because it is a SOC edition, I'd imagine that performance is closer to a 580 than a 570 anyway...

Oh and also....
GET THIS STICKIED!

Forgive me for not spending twenty minutes looking for prior posts from you !

How many screens are you running? are you running SLI?

Reason I ask is because when I ran a pair of 295s I had that all the time. the screens would flicker during loads (kind of like they were refreshing and building) and then when I went back to desktop Aero would either flash for a bit and then work, or in a couple of the drivers I tried not come back on at all.

It could just be the driver you are using.

Logic: Some post about unlocking 6950s is stickied even though it only applies to a small subset of graphics card owners and isn't even relevant anymore. But this, which helps every new buyer, isn't.

2 screens, no SLI, no overclock... It wasn't even a Flickering screen, had to hard reset. Using latest nVidia drivers, although did only update them recently, so it could be that...

Kind of hoping it is just a driver issue

Yeah hopefully. There's a thread now about BF3 crashing the driver. Are you using the same one?

Might be worth a rewind tbh.

Just a quick question regarding MSI, I'm looking to sell on a 6970 I bought last year and wondering if the buyer will be able to claim the manufacture warranty.

I sold off an Asus card previously and when I got in contact with them they said the buyer can still use the manufacture warranty if I give them proof of purchase, does anyone know if MSI offer the same deal in the UK or not?

I'm not sure about this but MSI really ought to back the warranty because it's the card their providing the warranty against not the person who bought it. Best thing you can do is email MSI and ask how the warranty works when you sell the card on while the card is still covered.

4 weeks and counting for my HiS RMA :(
Did you do RMA direct with HIS or retailer? over 28 days you should go back to retailer as thats classed as maximum amount of time for RMA to be processed.

The retailer should give you an equivelent replacement or a credit note to go towards something else.

Just read this about EVGA warranty on OCUK : "Warranty: 3 Years (Register within 30 days to extend your warranty upto 10 years for a small charge)"

How big is the "small charge", does anyone know?

4 x 1 week = 28 days.

I know that! That's why 28 days makes sense, but 28 working days means 4 weeks and 3 more days
