Graphics Card Warranties (UK Only) - Let's see how good they really are!

Very interesting thread,
The EU makes plenty of stupid laws, However they did extend basic warranty's to 2 years. Maybe they should force suppliers and retailers to mention where that warranty is based.

Might as well start looking at buying from the EU now. The only reason I haven't in the past was replacement times. Just looking at one place that offers a water block/HSF fitting service with a warranty.

EVGA (as with most) needs to be registered on the website within 30 days. If you need a longer warranty you can buy it to extend the warranty to 5 or 10 years (about £15/£20. Also the step up feature is only valid (must be requested in, if they are out of stock then as you registered it's OK) in the first 90 days

OCUK tested my Powercolor Eyefinity 5870 2gb on the 2nd of feb, they said it can take up to 28 days to get a replacment card from Powercolor it's been 26 days so far.

Just an update been offerd credit as a replacment for my Powercolor 5870

OCUK offerd me a choice of either a XFX 6950 or a OCUK 6970 I know the OCUk cards are VTX which is the same company that owns Powercolor, and it may have taken them over a month but atleast I am getting a brand new card out of it so all in all i'm quite happy now :)

So ty OCUK :)

Well i RMA'd my Asus 6950 & OKers tested and sent out a replacement within days, had the usual email regarding being tested etc..
Only had the card for less than a week so not sure if that makes any differance after all a warranty is a warranty ?

If it goes wrong within the 1st 28 days of purchase they will replace as far as I am aware, after that period runs out then off to manufacturer for replacement it goes.

Quick update, been waiting 12 days now with no update on the RMA with ASUS via OcUK, still shows "We are currently awaiting a replacement from our supplier."

19 Days now, think i need to wait 28 before i can do anything about it but really not impressed with ASUS. Still no idea what im going to be offered since my card was EOL so this could go from bad to worse :(

warranty position for a second owner

what is the position with transferring warranty to a another party. i am referring to a pair of XFX cards that i bought second hand, purchased from OCUK, less than 2 months old. would i still be allowed to RMA through OCUK if a problem developed in the future etc. i am awaiting the registration code from the original buyer to enable me to register the cards as a second owner with XFX.

You cant register as a second owner. US only.
To RMA the original buyer would have to do it.

i'm pretty sure you can as i had an xfx 5970 BE previously that i sold on ebay which i originally registered and obtained a registration code. the other day i logged into my xfx account and had the option of de-registering the card. when i clicked on to proceed to de-register the 5970 a warning popped up saying that if i have sold the card i needed to pass the registration code i was originally provided at initial registration to the second owner.
i would have posted an image of the registration screen but i don't appear to have this function available to me? do i need to reach so many posts before i can attach an image to a post?

can someone at OCUK confirm the above regarding transfer of warranty and status with OCUK should a problem occur somewhere down the line will i deal with you direct as the second owner of the cards once i've re-registered them with XFX?

since gainward has been marked with a don't really know stamp I posted this in a thread since a guy was considering a gainward GTX 560. My RMA with gainward was a god damn pain in the ass.

gainwards are good cards but if you have a problem with one in future it only goes downhill from there. Some people say they have a decent RMA but like me and a load of others it took a 6+ month turnaround due to lack of communication between sites.

They have a UK office but all RMA's based in europe are dealt with in Germany and there EXTREMELY fussy for me one of the capacitors blew and they tried to say I modded it which voids warranty and trust me when I say fussy I mean it. After months of battling plus constant letters and e-mails they decided to go back on there word and gave me a replacement but the cheeky buggers gave me an 8400GS when I sent them a 8800 gtx. After 3 months I had bought a GTX 260 anyway so I just said sod em for life.

However I didn't know they weren't dealing with it till 4 months into the RMA as I called the UK office they then said they would chase it up 1 month later still no word called again they said sorry they would chase it up another month went by no word 1 month later I FINALLY get a response from someone in germany saying sorry warranty void no replacment but we can repair it for you for 65 euros. I then thought what a kick in the teeth they just dumped it on the shelf saying sod that and it took months of chasing them up as to what the hell they are doing.

This was in 2008 theres stories like this dating all the way back to 2003 you would have thought they would have improved there RMA.

Ok looking at there site now looks like they only have a german office now and heres a link I find interesting http://www.gainward.com/main/support_detail.php?id=3

thats what they consider warranty void, now I know a lot of them yes are fair (if you get caught out) but some of them are seriously wrong because they can be caused by a fault in the card.

I would say definetly avoid.
