Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [25th - 27th August 2023]

Should have been 2 or 3 up long before Liverpool had the chance to equalise, but fair play to them for pushing till the end.

Miggy could have had two, Barns wasted a golden opportunity, etc. We're just not clinical enough with our final ball (the story of our life really).

It's frustrating, but it's not the end of the world. We've got the same points as we had from these three games last season, and it's still very early days.

I just hope the team can pick themselves up and improve.

Brighton is a bit of a bogey team for us, especially at the AmEx, and it's a late kick-off, so I'm not expecting much, but I hope they turn up and give it a good go.

was a really, really weird red card for vvd. Hardly a foul. If it even was. From most of the angles it looks like he takes the ball cleanly.

The angle from the side shows him taking out his leg just before the ball, 1:16m in. No complaints from me although I thought it was a red during the game as well.

I have more of an issue with Trent getting a yellow for throwing the ball to the free kick sport yet Newcastle clearly kicked the ball away twice without punishment.

^ Was about to post that clearly wipes out players before the ball.

In that video above they're saying "denied a goal scoring opportunity" which could confuse people a bit. The correct terminology is "denying a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity"

It's what people mean with the obvious bit, for me it's when its basically going to be a goal if it wasn't for the foul. Example would be this..

In my opinion...a lot needs to happen for Isak one for it to be a goal, it's not obvious for me.

He's through if he's not fouled, it's a clear goal-scoring opportunity. It doesn't have to result in a goal.

Just like when Richarlison equalised for Spurs at Anfield last season, as soon as Gordon scored we all should have known it was going to end with an embarrassing defeat for Newcastle. As a section of Evertonians will tell you, Liverpool are the devils club, put on this earth to bring nothing but misery to Everton players, ex-players and supporters.

To think that had it not been for a terrible call at Stamford Bridge, we'd be sitting on maximum points right now. Not bad considering the tough start to the season we've had and the decisions we've had go against us.

After being clearly fouled.

Doesn't matter. Had this argument with someone on here after the card for Wolves manager. It doesn't matter whether the decision from the referee was right or wrong. If your actions as a result should be punished then you should be punished. As usual the better argument is "why wasn't it applied here as well" rather than why was it applied here in the first place.

He goes completely through the back of the player to get the ball. He is also shouting abuse at the ref a few times after the red is shown. Will be interesting to see if there is any more punishment as a result.
