Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [12 - 16th January 2013]

Just got back from the Utd Liverpool game.

A pretty poor game punctuated by a few decent chances. RVP really should have made sure with the 2nd chance at the end of the first half.

Carrick gifted Liverpool their chance for the Sturridge goal. Pretty poor today as was our new Number 9 Howard Webb. Jesus Wept if he has been bias for us in the past he certainly made up for it today. Plenty of free kicks given when we had the advantage. A Shoulder barge off the ball and no free kick. Some tidy touches by Kagawa and Rafael today but not enough from Young or Carrick

Was sat next to a Liverpool fan toady and we both noticed how much Gerrard lost possession in the first half. It begs the question if he can modify his game enough to have a big enough impact on the big games any more.

MoTM I would say Carrick for Liverpool he was very poor.

Fan Watch - Both set of fans as bad as each other, that's all that needs to be said, unless of course any LFC or MUFC wants to try and take the moral high ground when it isn't really there to be took

Back from the game. We were great first half, not so much in the second. I think that's partly because our subs were wasted due to injuries, in an ideal world we'd probably have taken off Welbeck and Cleverley who were both shattered. The Jones for Kagawa sub ruined our attacking impetus really and was a poor decision.

Both sides did their fair share of gifting each other chances trying to play the ball out from the back, Liverpool moreso than ourselves.

Webb was shocking as expected. Playing on while Reina was down only to blow up when we got the ball was a joke. Skrtel and Johnson could both have been sent off while Lucas fouled us persistently, Rodgers did well to take him off at half time.

I'd agree on fan watch as above, neither side can be proud.

I actually thought Carrick was excellent in the first half but struggled in the second.

It's not two footed, it's not high and he got the ball.

You pretty much can't slide into tackles head on these days, I wasn't surprised at all when the Red card was given

Well, you can't rely on Arsenal for anything. :(

Seriously tell me on what planet would you ever think Arsenal would have helped you???...it was a dead cert that we would lose today, anyone thinking otherwise needs their heads checked.

Arsenal have it in them to get a draw. Just not when they go down to 10 men after 9 minutes. :o

Meh wouldn't have made a difference in all honesty, this had a loss written all over it:cool:

I'm actually glad we lost because it means that City still have a chance of catching you in the race for the title:p, couldn't stomach another Utd title win:o.

And we have helped you immensely this season....by giving you our best player in the summer for absolute peanuts;).

No my view was quite clear thanks.

His play was laboured for most of the game. Put under a bit of pressure and he was left found wanting.

I also thought Carrick was decent in the first half, he just looked a bit overwhelmed in the second half. He'll never be my favourite midfielder (I've made my feelings about him clear in the past before so won't go over it again now), but I have to admit that he's having a decent season. I completely agree about Ashley Young though, he gave the ball away several times in the opening few minutes and didn't do much to impress me throughout the rest of the match.

That Kompany red is really harsh imo, based on that gif anyway. I didn't see the incident live but from that view it looks like he's only gone in with one foot, yes studs are showing but he's not gone over the top of the ball or anything. You'd hope that the FA see sense and rescind it, but I doubt that will actually happen.

First half him and Cleverley dominated, the Liverpool goal you're blaming on him was more due to Cleverley's hospital ball and while second half the likes of Welbeck and Cleverley weren't anywhere to be seen Carrick still made himself available and tried to find people further up the pitch

No one in a United shirt was great second half but first half Carrick, Cleverley and Welbeck were by far United's best players

If Welbeck adds goals to his game he will be some player.

He also needs to add a second half performance to his repertoire, far too many times I can remember him being excellent in the first half of games and then not doing anything second half. I guess the logical answer to this is he runs himself into the ground first and is spent after half time. I'm sure this doesn't help his goal return as well

Couldn't agree more, though I'd add Rafael to that first-half list too, he stopped Johnson from being able to bomb down the wing like he likes to do.

Given how many chances he spurned in the 1st half - any chances in the 2nd half that might have happened would most likely have been spurned anyway lol

I did kind of ask this earlier but did you watch the game Frank because at least twice you've insinuated you didn't and yet conversely on more than one occasion you're criticising player's performance

Johnson doesn't bomb down the wings anywhere near as much when playing on the left at all, so not sure rafael did anything.

Our lack of everything going forward in the first half must've helped though.

I dont think it helped Rafa's game when Valencia came on, shock horror I actually think Young did ok first half (even after the injury)
