Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [14th - 17th September 2012]

Hehe, it was a good win but, I'm not reading too much into it. I think our offence certainly MADE their defence look that bad, but it wasn't great to start with. Cazorla looks great, Podolski looks fantastic, Arteta made a truly fantastic pass for Gervinho's goal.

While Gervinho got a goal, he fluffed an awful lot as per usual also even against poor opposition. I fully expect Walcott/Gervinho to pop up with goals and the odd assist in games like this and disappear against Utd/Chelsea/City. THe area of the pitch we look so much improved is central midfield, how many years(its 8 ;) ) have I said that NOT having someone like Song/Denilson in there makes all the difference. Its not about the quality of your best player, its how good your worst player is that makes the real difference. The constant mistakes and constant freekicks we've conceded for years and years. We look so much more organised with three central midfielders who actually know what to do for 90 minutes of every game.

I don't think Coquelin is going to be a brilliant player, he's not going to make 9/10 performances but he won't make the constant mistakes either.

Keeper though, he's looking ever more dodgy, I think Arsenal suffer from, Wengeritis... over a longer period they all seem to get abnormally cocky(for not good players that is) and seem to start acting like they are the best and don't need to try as hard. Walcott, Sagna, Song, keeper, after a win they'd all be in the press talking up how good they, arsenal and our title chances are while the grafters, your Arteta's/Verm's/Cesc's have a level head and constantly try hard, play hard for the entire 90 minutes, aren't mistake prone idiots and don't get so cocky. Sczcesny's distribution is becoming downright terrible, with a bunch of miskicked clearances every game now, and flapping at an awful lot of easy to take crosses.

I still think there is some dead wood to remove but we can put out a fantastic first team... everywhere that is except in goal. I think a really really top notch keeper and the team starts to look very very impressive. Not quite 49 game unbeaten run good, but pretty damn good.

We need a new left back as well but with two guys on high wages there it isn't going to happen and realistically a dominating not mistake prone keeper will do a heck of a lot more for the team than a better left back.

Right I am just home from that game (long walk back form the station and had to have the most depressed post game pint in a while).

Firstly Gervinho was very much Man of the Match, genuinely the only player to put a decent work rate in from either team. He was everywhere, on the left, on the right, in the middle, no one could pick him up. He got two and an assist (I think) because he made a difference.

We were our own worst enemies, playing possession football is nice but we gave it away after 5-6 touches so many times in the first half I wanted to cry. Our principle failings was our left back is **** and Punch (after the United game) has done a typical Punch, looked world class for two games then looked like L1.

Coquelin was useless, as was Jenkionson (who could only foul Lallana to do anything) and I have no idea why Sczcesny played. He looked unfit and that other guy would have been a much better choice on fitness and form.

You can sell us your left back because he looked pretty good, 100 million times better than Danny Fox

Metesaker was also a perfect choice because he demolished Lambert today, then had all the answers for Rodriguez too. Depressing to watch.

Best bit of the day really was Gaston Ramirez, looks to be the real deal, well worth £12m and a shame Spurs/Liverpool didn't bother with him.

Villa next week is must win, to a new level.

Slightly more happy with that half from everyone.

Still baffles me how Gerrard isn't shoved up where Shelvey is, he is much better there.

We must be on track to beat last seconds hit the post as many times as possible record.

We also looked better with Downing on for once and Suarez back down the middle.

It's difficult to say anything that's not been said already this season (and last). For the most part we're playing well but we just don't have enough goalscorers in the side. Should have had a pen in the first half for the foul on Suarez (I can only assume refs aren't giving them to us this season as they know we'll miss them) but still had enough chances to win today.

I know Pigeon's again mentioned that Suarez shouldn't play through the middle (although he played wide today until Borini came off) but I couldn't disagree more. Right now, in this Liverpool sides with the players we have available to us, Suarez needs to be in the area of the pitch where he can do as much damage as possible and that's centrally. He's scored 3 in 5 matches this season, admittedly he could (possibly should) have scored more but the real issue is the players around him not chipping in with goals.

Impressive performance from Sterling again - he's fast becoming an excellent player.

Missing penalties with Gerrard on the pitch BaZ? Last I remember post 2007 where he didn't score rebound at least was where he got Roy sacked. (Inb4 u list 5 I didn't remember.)

I wasn't being entirely serious with the comment on why we're not getting the pens but Gerrard missed one in the CC final ;)

Doesn't count :p

Can someone explain to me why players refuse to slide for a ball or reach out if its about 2 feet infront of them going past, is it scared of being caught out of position if they don't get it, laziness or scared to pull/tear something?

Ok I might be going crazy but was Jeff Stelling and the team saying one of the Scottish teams today had subs over 60 year old? Only half heard it but sure he did.

pity you lost Ince.

I'll be staggered if Ince makes it in the Premier League. Sterling and Ince played in the same reserve side for us and despite being much younger and physically less developed, Sterling was 3 times the player Ince was.

Wow just seen Welbeck's dive. He needs dropping fast. Now he's got his big contract and a first team spot regardless of how he plays and his attitude has just disappeared.

How was that Buttner's goal? Was going across goal and went in off Al-Habsi.

Purdy - although there's contact, it still looks like he could have stayed on his feet to me. Felt the contact, leaned forward and went down.
