What did you want Shawcross to do? Bend space and time and dissapear? He turned his back on the ball, little else he could do really.
And the commentator realised his mistake and changed his tone as soon as they showed some replays from different angles.

You really saw that? I can understand him receiving criticism for the lack of creativity he's provided (on the whole) so far but not criticism because of a lack of effort.
Imo he's always worked hard and done the simple things well; he doesn't make too many mistakes and he's not wasteful in possession. As above, he's just lacked a real impact going forward. For a young kid coming to a big club it can be expected though; he's playing with a lot of dominant players around him that are always demanding the ball and he's playing in a bit of an inbetween positions - he's neither a out and out wide player nor is he a central midfielder. Hopefully as he gets used to his position and surroundings, he'll become more comfortable and express himself more going forward.
