Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [30th Mar - 2nd April 2012]

Spurs look so much better with Lennon in the side. They really need a versatile back-up option for when one of Bale/Lennon isn't available.

Actually having Bale on the left wing made all the difference, not the daft free role he has played recently. He needs to realise he's not Ronaldo, just a very good left winger.

Most quick wingers who can go past defenders like Bale and Lennon can would demand a wage far higher than Spurs can give them as they are in fairly short supply. Plus Spurs would most likely have to pay a fortune for one..

Alternatively, Spurs could wait a few years to see what wingers come out of the Southampton academy and sign them up before Arsenal do :p

Is it me or was there an unusually high amount of public confrontations between team-mates this weekend? There was incidents at Man City, Wolves & West Brom from what I saw(There may have been others).. Seems the end of season pressure is starting to get to the players..

Hope spurs do us a favour here

lol brilliant, purdy. of all the times you've gloated on here when we lose or concede, now, because your team are so woeful you're relying on us for favours? no probs

also, i don't think people in here have laughed at carroll and infact liverpool/king kenny enough. you don't even belong in the top half of the table, you're embarassingly poor, just what is going on? if you don't get shut of carroll then you'll continue to be poor. i feel a little sorry for the bloke, his confindence must be of rock bottom proportions to do what he did, it was easier to score than dive. i was watching the game with a liverpool fan who said carroll had stated he wouldn't celebrate if he scored. well, let's be honest, there was minimal danger of that happening.

i also read in here people saying liverpool were the better team in the first half .... were they? blinkered.much. i didn't even know bellamy and gerrard were on the pitch for ages. dalglish has to go to save face.

good win today for spurs, swansea started the 2nd half well and scored during a period of high possession but we looked good at times and it was great to have lennon back. just hope he can put more of the kind of balls in he did for manu's 2nd in the future.

Pienaar is gash, no pace, has the odd great game and many many awful or at best average games inbetween.

As OMS said, having Bale stick by and large on the left wing and having some semblance of an actual real formation was the biggest change, though they still looked dodgy in parts and Ekotto was stupidly lucky not to be sent off considering his two footed tackle was feet from the linesman(and obvious to anyone with working eyes anyway). Bale is not a capable freerole player, much more dangerously, he THINKS he is and when he's been allowed to drift all over he tries tricks he isn't capable of, shots he won't ever score and hogs the ball when there are far far better options.

But as always the thing is your own team mates need some level of predictability, if you hog the ball and pass or cross at daft times your team mates have no chance of making runs at the right time or being in the right place. The whole team has been out of form for a while now, if they can stick to a formation and everyone in the same position for a while there isn't a good reason they can't get right back to form.

Next weekend doesn't look great, Arsenal against City, Newcastle against Swansea, Chelsea vs Wigan and Spurs vs Sunderland, I can see Chelsea and Newcastle both being 2 points behind Arsenal come the end of next weekend, and Spurs.... at best they'll be level , they'll probably lose by a smaller margin than we will and we'll be behind on goal difference, at worst they'll move 3 points ahead of us.

Anyone who thinks Arsenal are certain for top four is deluded at this point, Newcastle have the most inform attack, a ridiculously good defence considering who is in it, Chelsea are improving and Arsenal can suck in any position in any game whenever they want :p

EDIT:- another weekend where Bendtner and Vela score, while we had Gervinho and Chamakh, who cost 12mil and roughly 140k a week between them........ absolute madness they haven't been able to get games, both having very good seasons when finally given a shot and both looked very very good for us if and when they were given chances.

very lucky indeed and he seemed to wind or injure himself in the process and no action was taken

MOTD2 on in a min. be interesting to see what they say about carroll's dive

Hmmm, City seem to have crumbled in their title challenge. If Utd win tomorrow that'll be a 5 point gap. That's a big gap with only 7 games to go, plus theres always a chance Utd will beat City when they play.

I think Utd got this one :<

Win our next two games and we'll be 8 points clear ahead of City's visit to Arsenal. You can take nothing for granted at this stage of the season though.

:D I'd love some one to make a YouTube compilation of all of Daglish's interviews and the foolishness he comes out with.

I'll almost 100% sure City will beat Arsenal next week. Title races are never as simple and straight forward as they appear on paper.

Only Liverpool fans can really answer this but is Dalglish getting dangerously close to tarnishing his reputation at Liverpool? From the best I can see he's achieved two things since his return, firstly giving the club a boost last season when they were rubbish under Hodgson and secondly drawing with a Championship side and winning a trophy in the process*. Surely spending **** loads of money on bad signings and being in charge during a set of results/form that equal's that of Hodgson last season kinda levels things out though doesn't it?

* ;) :p

dalglish thinks carroll didn't go down deliberately. the bloke is nuts.

pardew on the other hand is actually an alright bloke.

Pretty much, saw his remarks earlier, it really is hard to tell which "phase" Cisse was in for his offside, the rule in those odd circumstances has become so convoluted. He was offside from the pass by Ba, but if Flanagan(I think it was him) touched it then at that point he was in line with him(though maybe very slightly offside still, but WAY closer than before). The real question is, by being in line at that point(assume he was for the moment) does it count that he hasn't gained an advantage from being offside in phase 1, not so sure and honestly not sure that is still part of the rule as it was a couple years ago.

It's also crazy hard to tell even with replays who actually gets the touch, the ball definitely seems to change direction very very slightly. Meh either way, Carroll's dive was absolutely clear as day, its also clear as day from replays neither the ref nor the linesman had a chance in hell of seeing if Simpson handballed it, randomly giving it when IIRC only Carroll appealed for it, is never going to happen.

Villarael got shamefully beaten by a ref tonight, stone cold penalty that was seen by all, easily, denied and a absolutely fine goal disallowed for kicking the ball out of the keepers hands, despite the keeper having exactly zero control of the ball. 3 points above relegation zone now, really struggling and denied a pretty clear 3 points.

Sociedad getting 3 more points, another Vela goal, 4-0 with only 40% possession at home, not often you see that.

Possibly. depending on what arsenal side turn up. if they turn up. we will beta city

IIRC of the last 7 games between the two (home and away) Arsenal have won once and that was when City went down to 10 men after 5 minutes

I certainly can't see anything that points towards an Arsenal win, I think from a United perspective the best we can hope for is a draw

DM isnt even worth a response , I can write pages and pages of absolute drivel regarding Arsenal but its bit like smaking msyelf in the head = pointless

He has truth in his ramblings regarding us no one can deny it but its personal opnions cloud his judgement and make him look bitter, Whats up Dm did one of the naughty thug stoke players look at you badly from your comfortable armchair?

We went from the manor ground to the Mestella in 10 years, NO TRUE stoke fan from that time can even believe we would be able to upset the likes of the glourious Arsenal fans in years to come
