Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [30th Mar - 2nd April 2012]

Hmmm, City seem to have crumbled in their title challenge. If Utd win tomorrow that'll be a 5 point gap. That's a big gap with only 7 games to go, plus theres always a chance Utd will beat City when they play.

I think Utd got this one :<

Yup, I'm fairly sure I said City had a ridiculously good team and only really Mancini can throw it away, at some point winning mentality becomes as important as anything else. With half a season to go theres really no pressure and City played like that, when it started being a case of second half of season, needing to hold on to top spot and win it they started playing worse almost immediately.

Silva hasn't coped with the pressure well at all and has been half the player since a bit before xmas. Barry has been awful all season(but ignored by most as City themselves were brilliant till xmas), Nasri has had very very few good games and Mancini has failed miserably to pull them out of their poor form for far too long.

They can still pull it back, while Utd have the experience and Scholes being back will help there as well, they can also suffer the pressure, or the "haha, we've won it, we're so good" thing and start playing like absolute turd.

Doesn't help that Mancini rather pre-scapegoated Balotelli before the game with calls of not trusting him, followed by placing a lot of blame on him after he scored 2 to get a point off Sunderland.... not like he's scapegoated anyone else before has he ;)

IIRC of the last 7 games between the two (home and away) Arsenal have won once and that was when City went down to 10 men after 5 minutes

I certainly can't see anything that points towards an Arsenal win, I think from a United perspective the best we can hope for is a draw

if football was that simple, City would have walked the title race. anything can happen in football :)

who would have thought sunderland would grab a point against city? nearly beating them too!

Damien's illiterate brother.

So Dalglish defending Carroll is different to Pardew defending one of his players?

ah yes, damien not daniel and you're welcome to him.

it's not just the carroll thing with dalglish, it's loads of stuff. even your captain told him to get off the pitch. i'm sure (and have actually heard) he's a nice bloke in life but his time in football is up.

*** off topic post ***

:p

Does anyone have a video / gif of Mancini doing the 'not bad' face after Sunderland's 3rd goal?

Never mind found it on RedCafe.

It's easy enough to pass the buck when you like one guy and don't care about the other. The reality is no one outside a few people at Liverpool know who has the final say and if in particular anyone opposed whoevers idea it was.

IE Comolli may have suggested Downing but Dalglish was happy with it, or Comolli may have the power to buy whoever he wants and Dalglish had no choice. We'll never know either, one might blame the other if one ends up leaving, whose to say its true, even if owner, Daglish and Comolli all laid the blame at one persons feet, it could be simply to save the image of a club hero... maybe that is being too cynical.

Even then you've simply got things like Suarez, this is a guy who was scoring at a rate that essentially makes him currently a different player, from stupid goals a season to stupidly low scoring. Did Comolli/Dalglish make a mistake buying a known trouble maker/cheat, maybe, did they still buy a high scoring striker, sure, who is to blame for that striker being almost unable to put the ball in the net?

Likewise Carroll was a better player at Newcastle, Downing may not be the best winger and was MASSIVELY over rated last year, but he was still a much better player last year than this season.

Buys being wrong or not ignores the fact that so many people are underperforming. At the time almost no one(not even many Pool fans but certainly no one else) thought any of the buys were good value, or even close to it, that hasn't changed. If they were all performing to their maximum Liverpool would be both a better team than last season and MUCH better than they are today. Inability to play the right team, make the right subs, extract their best performances is most likely largely the fault of Dalglish.

Can we all just stop hating on Dalglish please? I love him as Liverpool manager.

It's okay we all loved Rafa and Hodgson as well. Liverpool will sack Dalglish and still be **** :p

On a serious note I think Dalglish would have to walk for Liverpool to get a new manager this summer, I can't see the board sacking 'King Kenny', well not unless they do even worse come the start of next season :p

Having said all that it's inevitable they'll knock Everton out of the cup next week (or whenever the tie is)

dalglish thinks carroll didn't go down deliberately. the bloke is nuts.

pardew on the other hand is actually an alright bloke.

I really like the way he handles himself in the press. At the start of his career he was very cocky bit outspoken when he was getting labeled as one of the best young English managers. His little down turn in his career really has humbled him.

He's really got a glint back in his eye and a drive to do well again. Good chance for Newcastle to win a cup under him.

After what's gone on over the pasy year or so am sure most Newcastle fans are on cloud 9 :) Not only did we beat Liverpool they where kinda humiliated and fun watching the wheels fall off.

That being said I wish Liverpool all the best and please beat Everton lol

Jose Enrique Twitter quote, July 25th 2011:

"The club is allowing all the major players of the team to go. Seriously, do you think it is the fault of the players? This club will never again fight to be among the top 6 again with this policy.'

Premier League table, April 1st 2012:

Pos Team Played GD Pts
1 Manchester United 30 47 73
2 Manchester City 31 50 71
3 Arsenal 31 21 58
4 Spurs 31 20 58
5 Chelsea 31 17 53
6 Newcastle 31 4 53
7 Everton 31 0 43
8 Liverpool 31 3 42

And Pardew said Simpson didn't handball it :/

Thought it was dabatable myself

(whether he moves his shoulder or not, the ball would have connected in the same place - but imo that should be an "un-natural " position holding onto the post like that)

Surprising how well Liverpool played before that, but in the long run they deserved nothing from the match - and the semi-final will be more exciting because of this game (perch over-dramatized massively, but Riena should have known better also and while it was a foul there was nothign in it for Reina to go off on one like that)
