Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [30th Mar - 2nd April 2012]

I leave for 3 years and still people don't cotton on to the fact that Cheets comedically trolls everyone on here. Love ya Andy!

welcome back, how long you been posting?

I was actually a fan of ryan Giggs and so followed his team. If it had anything to do with my dad I would have been a city fan.

I'm done with having to justify myself to someone on the Internet.

I remember getting Ryan Giggs Reebok Soccer skills vhs when I was a 10

I think the most impressive thing today was the patience. We began the game reasonably well but lacked a little pace with our passing. In addition, I don't think the two tactical changes SAF made really worked. Jones was anonymous and Chico struggled, with little support from the midfield.
But the subs were typically positive and I think the result fair, despite a very solid defensive display from Blackburn.
For me, Rafael and Scholes were the MOTM, although Valencia was once again very impressive. Still, I would like him to be willing to allow the ball to touch his left foot, even if its only for the very simple pass.

I can't believe some people are saying anything like that was one of Utd's best performances in months.

Carrick gave the ball away in dangerous area's more times than most players would and I'm not remotely convinced by those stats as Carrick seemed to get a heck of a lot more than 8 passes wrong. Either way, pass completion means nothing, neither does possession. Utd were toothless in the first half, Hernandez was complete crap, Welbeck barely did anything despite having a decent run out time wise, screwed up everything he did(which wasn't much), the one time he managed to run with the ball he put in an awful pass behind Young when a pass infront of him would probably have led to a very good chance of a shot.

Rooney, Rooney didn't wake up till the shot he missed in the second half from range without too much power anyway(would have been saved if the keeper thought it was on target) then a freekick, which was also easily saved, and then his game stopped again.

Blackburn were pretty rubbish for the vast majority of the game, Valencia looked good, Young came on and got a great goal, other than that it was a pretty one sided "give ball to Valencia, he'll swing it in to no one, no one else is even awake" game. This is a game where utd playing brilliantly would have won... well 7-1 quite easily. The laboured into a 2-0 victory from two fantastic strikers(even if Robinson probably should have saved Valencia's), while requiring their own keeper to make the two best saves of the game.

Decent, never REALLY looked in trouble, but no where near great performance, average, maybe.

About 2 days and more off than on. First weekend of football on here in a while, that's a fact. Kind of missed it.

Where are the old faces like Linoge and G|mp? Not seen them post this weekend. Was gonna ask after Loki but I've just seen him post.
I see One More Solo, Shamikebab and Tom84 are all still :).

Read the posts when Liverpool play, it's a whole lot worse from users.
Didn't think it was too bad yesterday but it is amusing to see the same posters who take joy in baiting us and City kicking off when Cheets does the same to them. Can we make him a Mod for a day, that would be fun? :D

Edit: G|mp's banned and Linoge has changed his name so many times I can't even remember who he is anymore.

I don't actually remember Carrick doing that much wrong, apart from when he gave it away just outside our box. This wasn't really the kind of game for Hernandez. He always does best when the opposition defence play a high line, and he can run in behind it. He still has one of the best football brains I've seen in a while. 99% picks the right run.

I think Gimp was banned, not sure why.

Linoge I believe has a different name now (red11, or am I thinking of someone else?) and started the weekend threads for a while.

nah, dm's not convinced, and anyway, possession and passes reaching their intended target don't mean that much in football. Dm says.

Linoge is now called red11. He's been busy, usually makes the weekly threads.

I'm genuinely interested in knowing what you class as a good performance because we might have scored 5 against Wolves a few weeks back but tonight's performance overall was much better than that given the opposition was a much sterner test. Likewise when we beat Arsenal 8-2 earlier in the season the 3-0 against Spurs the week before was a much better all round performance.

As for Rooney he might not have scored today but that was also his best performance in weeks, his passing was very good (unlike most recent weeks when it's been gash to put it mildly) and if anything he was better first half than he was second when you claim he 'woke up'

Rooney didn't do a great deal, his movement was quite nice but most of it wasn't in a dangerous position, it was hardly his fault he was stuck out left though. It was a disciplined rather than memorable performance from him.

In a back handed compliment kind of way, DM is right it was an average performance. Average performances, week in week out win you Premierships, that's all that matters ;)

Unfortunately as has always been the case with Carrick when he makes a mistake it's highlighted to the tenth degree generally because of the severity of it (that may be because of how deep he plays though, almost the same level of severity as if a defender gives the ball away 25 yards from goal). There were two cases once in the first half when he was simply run off the ball and in the second when he passed it straight to Yakubu but overall it was still a very good performance. I'd give him a 7 for tonight, he was better than Scholes who seemed intent on only passing to Tony V :p
