Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [9th - 13th April 2016]

Serious question, what happened to Darmian? A month or so into the season he was the best RB in the league according to some on here and well, he looks complete dog **** whenever he plays now.

I can't remember exactly, but I think he got an injury or two, then I got the impression the manager didn't fancy him, and he's been rubbish since.

Not having a pop at Spurs but the goals for is incredibly low. The top scorers are normally scoring a minimum of 80 goals (which it's highly unlikely Spurs will reach), going up to 100+.
What Spurs have done however is combined that with the best defence by quite some margin. All while playing entertaining football, a good combo.

The Prem is out of reach, Leicester too far away to catch but that puts Spurs 12 points ahead of 5th place... almost guarantee's CL footy which was our goal at start of season and a lofty one at that.

You'd hope to score a lot more goals if you're playing entertaining football I'd have thought.

And as I said, I'm not knocking Spurs. It just shows the overall standard this year - whether it's points totals, top scorers etc, this season is a fair way behind most seasons.

He was never good according to me, he's absolutely toilet going forward and I don't rate him defensively either.

Both Varela and Mosu Fensah have been much better when playing right back.

But how do you know if it's a drop-off by the top teams or an improvement from the rest of the league? After all, we've still got one team in each European competition, both looking good to advance to the next stage of the competition. I'd argue that the other teams in the league have closed the gap on the top sides.

If you'd watched us as much as I have you'd know we've missed bucket loads of chances this season. A bit more composure from a young team, plus more striker support for Kane and we really should have scored at least 15+ more goals. We've drawn games we should have won by 2 or 3. We've dominated games and finished with stats like 20+ attempts and won 1-0.

I'd like to see the stats on that tbh.

Overall standard of what? As above how do you know it's not just down to the whole league standard being higher and not one/two teams being miles better?

For me this has the been the best premier league season for a long time.

Here's one http://www.spursstatman.com/stats/2016/3/26/5-stats

  • Real Madrid (452) and Bayern Munich (417) are the only sides to created more chances than Tottenham (405) this season.
  • Only Real Madrid (577) and Bayern Munich (530) have had more attempts at goal than Tottenham (529) this season.

You'd need the stat for clear cut chances or are Spurs (+ the other 2) more creative than Barca? Chances created is a very vague stat and often misleading - Charlie Adam and Stewart Downing were signed by us on that and we all know how that played out.

Overall standard of the sides at the top of the table. Yes, clubs that have typically been mid table or lower clubs are better but the top sides have been a lot worse.

No problem if people have enjoyed this season but Leicester & Spurs haven't been as good as Chelsea & City last season or City & Liverpool the season before, and it's probably not close either.

The fact that pretty much every English team playing in Europe has been embarrassing and we look nowhere near having anyone get to even a Semi Final would suggest that it's the upper quality of our league that has reduced more than the lower part improving.

As well as Leicester and Tottenham seem to be doing, even playing this well last year would have only seen them scrapping for fourth I expect, not the title.

Personally haven't thought it has been an entertaining season, can't think of any stand out games. Although I like football less and less these days :(

What? Liverpool are in a superb position vs Dortmund in the Europa League (the same Dortmund that are favourites to win the tournament), and City have every chance of beating PSG at home. Both teams would advance to the semi finals of their respective competition, so I've no idea what you're talking about.

I don't even blame lvg. It's not his fault he's terrible at this particular job.

I blame the board for hiring the wrong person twice in a row and then deciding to stick with him despite an awful showing last season and no improvement even regression perhaps this season.

Therefor the board need to hit the self eject button. Or the share holders should force the Ozzie.
