GT200 GTX280/260 "official specs"

I find it strange that Fuzilla's reporting $229 for the 4870, when everywhere else is reporting that price for the 4850.

Should be quite a few available on launch then, interesting it says that both GT200's are faster than the 4870, so that X2 (which will be 2x of em in Xfire) will have to be a beast of card then, if true of course, i thought the 4870 would at least be inbetween them both.

For me it depends on how much slower the 4870 is cause at that price if its not that much slower it will probably be the new 8800gt and will wipe the floor with nvidia on sales if its anywhere near the 260. A cheap x2 version of it may spell trouble for nvidia as if they can put out a 4870 for that price don't think the x2 will be anywhere near the price of a 280 and may match its performance.

I suppose it will depend on how much slower than the 260 the 4870 will be, and how much faster the 280 will be over the 260, if its quite a bit (which it should be i would have thought, as its got more TMU's/ROP's, and a shed load more streams), then the X2 could be the card that fits in between both of em.

The rumoured vantage results are interesting, very disappointing for the HD4780 if true and it doesn’t look great for the HD4780X2 either, if it scales the same as 3870X2 then it will score lower than the GTX260, it will need more than 50% increase over the 4870XT to match GTX280, It's even more underwhelming when you consider how well ATI card’s and crossfire do in 3dmark relative to their gaming performance.

But there probably fake.

Vantage Xtreme settings, 1920*1200+4aa+16af

GTX 280 = X4098
GTX 260 = X3782
9800GX2 = 3608
HD4870XT = X2595
HD3870X2 =2582
8800ULTRA = 2.403
HD4850PRO = X1981
HD3870 = 1440
HD4850PRO = X1981

I hope those scores aren't true.

... I will say that if the rumoured specs are anywhere near true, the GTX280 should beat the GTX260 by way more than the 8% shown there, particularly with AA enabled. This leads me to really question those results.

Where did they come from, out of interest?

Agreed, by the looks of the current specs the gap'd be more like 20-40%...

And the 4850 is in there twice...

And the 8800 Ultra only got 2.4 3DMarks.

Not sure, first noticed it on the Xtremesystems forum but they didn't provide a source, also posted here.

Isn't it unusual for the release date to be so close and there to be really no solid benchmarks or performance details, other than the official spec sheats that been released ?

Sweet geez, I have been waiting for an upgrade for months - it can't come fast enough (or be fast enough for that matter :p)

Alledged 3dmark vantage comparison of gt200 & rv770:

Extreme profile
GeForce GTX 280 41xx
GeForce GTX 260 38xx
GeForce 9800GX2 36xx
GeForce 8800 Ultra 24xx
Radeon HD 4870 XT 26xx
Radeon HD 3870X2 25xx
Radeon HD 4850 Pro 20xx
Radeon HD 3870 14xx

This may be good news for the 4870x2 as in theory it may be able to compete with the gtx280 (obviously this is pure speculation!)

Another INQ joke of an 'article' on about the 55nm shrink of these cards.

It's also by Charlie Demerjian the WORST so called journalist of all time.
I only link it for a laugh, no one should take this ridiculously bitter, bias and immature bloke seriously.

Just brilliant...

The last time Nvidia's CPU mouthed off about Intel, the firm followed it up with the stunning NV5800 'Dustbuster'. This time, he mouthed off, and the successor to the GT200 had already taped out. NV is in deep trouble once again.

...does he even check that his articles make a vague amount of sense before he posts them?!

This is just too funny to watch

a card outdated mere months from the day it is released, and all the difference is that it will run cooler and be no faster.

this one is a big meh

oh wait no, a card that is actually faster is due not long after.. ah well, no point in wasting money on the gtx 280 then is there?
