GT200 GTX280/260 "official specs"

Can't be, the GTX 280's Ram only runs at 1100mhz.

You may be right about Nvidia not doubling it up now, weird why they wouldn't do that now though, im well

That's the physical clock speed. The effective clock speed would be 2.2GHz, which is perfectly possible for a GDDR3 card (see 9800 GTX).

Looks like marginal improvements, nowhere near worth the full cost of the cards as we normally (almost) get.

Glad i jumped on the SLI wagon tbh, these new cards are a waste even for crysis by the looks of it.. very poor

for Nvidia to come out with this is a joke after how long 8800 GTX has been around, how long do we have to wait for a proper next gen card? next year?

Well I just listed my 8800GT for 5p today listing fee so here's hoping in 10 days I get good monies for it!

I'm confident :p

Just wait for some proper reviews then and only then will we know if they're worth it or not. If they're not worth it to me I'll just plump for a GX2 for the rest of the year.

If the new cards do turn out to be turds then I will have sold my GT but I can easily buy a GTS 512 for peepee monies so have a benefit either way, win win situations FOR THE WIN!

i thought i seen heavily clocked 9800gx2 hitting 18~20k or higher? correct me if im wrong still vantage is band benchmark 06 much better hope they make something better.

were is game benches

Nope they were less and used 7950GX2's were going for as little as £200 on ebay just after 8800GTX was launched.

I distinctly remember seeing a 7950GX2 or several sell for more than a 8800GTX. And I don't remember seeing any go for £200 at launch. But in the end I decided to get neither so it's not like I was looking around for a long time...

Anyone notice that the new release date for the GTX 260 is the same date that ATI release the 48xx's? Combined with Nvidia's rumored pre-release price drops, do you think they're trying to steal some of ATI's thunder?

Sounds like it but any sort of agressive pricing from NVIDIA is only a good thing for us. After all, the green stuff is the better silicon ;)

As much as this rumour, speculation and hype is imo an essential part of the pre-release GPU process... lets wait until release before actually making decisions about what we're going to buy eh? Not long to go now... :)

but i guess the lowish performance on crysis already proves the cards arent that good

No, Crysis has proved (well, as much as preliminary benchies can prove anything) that these cards can double the power or previous gen cards. I have no idea why people are using Crysis as an accurate measure of good GPU performance... it's a single game that runs horribly on ANYTHING at higher detail. There are games which look just as good or better and yet run great... use those as judges of a GPU instead. Crysis is a dog of a game, and an over-hyped, over-rated and unoptimised piece of cack. I wouldn't judge ANY graphics card purchase on it.

Well i agree with the 100% part, but obviously since Crysis already runs like crap its just running less crappier this time around :p was oblivion this bad? or almost? i think Crysis is slightly worse.

IMO though whichever the case, they made a big mistake showing Crysis performance as it looks like rubbish even on these cards, at least at high res it does anyway.

We are really overdue for benchmarks of other games

most important would be others that arent so demanding perhaps HL2 Source engine games, Q4, Mass Effect, GRID i think they would be a good start seeings as they are actually games people play and not stuff like tech demos ;).

People brag about Crysis looking awesome compared to console games but it still runs like crap, at least we have other games that can look better but run well.
