At the moment I don't think anything looks better than Crysis.

That's probably true from a technical standpoint, however I like many others would prefer a game that has 90% of the visual prowess but with 200-300% of the performance.

Crysis can't be fully optimised surely, since to run smoothly at its full potential it needs hardware that doesn't even exist yet, lol.

I'd like more benchmarks based on Assassin's Creed imo, as well as Age of Conan, Devil May Cry 4, also preferably any non-TWIMTBP games :)

You already have that. In Crysis. By turning the graphical settings down to "high".

You speak sense!

I really don't get why people can't understand that regardless of how good crysis looks, it has a very very bad ratio performance to graphical quality. It is the best looking game out right now, but it's also one of the worst optimised. As Skyboat says, some games come close, 70-80% visual prowess, with 300+% performance, so it's extremely unrealistic for so many people to put crysis up there as 'the' graphical benchmark, when it'll run like crap for a long time to come. We all know that crysis is just relying on brute force to run it. Cysis needs to be gotten over already. Personally, as nice as crysis looks, I prefer the feel of the UE3 engine when it comes to actually playing the game and not just staring at it.

So surely if the mere 10% increase in visual quality that Very High brings results in a 300% performance decrease... somethings wrong somewhere along the line?

Performance : visual quality scaling has never been linear.

I must ask - would you rather the 'very high' option was not even there?

If Crysis had been released as-is, but without the 'very-high' detail option, the volume of whining would be reduced significantly. People don't like not being able to run their games at maximum detail levels with smooth framerates.

It's the biggest mistake Crytek made with that game. I couldn't agree more.

It's not so much maxed, it's the fact that even when benching, a pretty high spec PC such as mine can't get more than 50fps average on a low-action flyby at a measly 1280x1024 High detail with absolutely no anti-aliasing enabled.

Now, compare that to some incredible-looking games that have been out recently such as GRID, or some UE3 engined titles that annihilate that score even with 4xAA enabled and you have to wonder is there something that Crytek aren't admitting.

I wasn't trying to be perceived as a whiner, I'm merely fed up of people on the obsession of Crysis not only on this forum but many others across the intarweb, since I believe it's not the pinnacle it's made out to be.

Totally agree, Crysis is a polished turd that runs crap and scales horribly, something in the development went horribly wrong, especially as they said it would run good on midrange parts which it doesn't.

Anyway, looking at the 3-SLI setup posted I can't imagine the top two cards being cooled very well, there is no place for air to go to the fan
