GT200 GTX280/260 "official specs"

Geforce GTX 260 to sell for $399

To quickly go to $349

Price wars have already started. Nvidia already dropped GTX 280 to $499 and it looks that GTX 260 will sell for $399.

Nvidia is still telling its partners that $399 is the launch price for Geforce GTX 260 but it looks that this card will quickly go down to $349. With $349, GTX 260 looks much more attractive and it will do well against $329 priced Radeon HD 4870 but as we suggested once ATI feels threatened it will simply drive the prices down.

Nvidia sells Geforce 9800GTX at $299, which means if GTX260 price goes down, Nvidia has to drive 9800GTX down too. Radeon HD 4870 beats 9800GTX and there is your problem. At this point, at least when it comes to the average selling price of Nvidia cards, we simply have to say DAAMIT what have you done.

The 280 will be around £399 +

If not I will run around the froums naked!

Mate of mine who runs a component shop has said his suppliers have informed him that the 280 will be 'Over £300 but under £400', thats ex VAT.

So even best case scenario of £300 ex VAT that is £350 inc VAT...

Which is highly unlikely.

Worst case scenario of £399.99 ex VAT that is £470 inc VAT

Putting mid point of £350 ex VAT at ~£410 inc VAT

G200 to sell for $99 and G280 for $199 for 7 day probabation period:

After seeing numerous benchmarks of the ATi/AMD 4570 recently released nVidia are preparing for a 7 day special during the initial week of their release of the upcoming series 9 cards. An initial batch of 5000 cards is being distributed to retailers at this moment in time, with a quoted retail price of $199 for the top of the range 280 and $99 for the lesser G200 model. The price will then be increased to the "normal" $299/$399 as originally expected

that's ugly

I'm with you on that one. That looks hideous. I don't ever expect cards to look good as that's just sad but I do think this one looks worse than most. Like someone has placed a box on a PCB with some nice colours.

Ach, as long as it runs the games how Nvidia want them to be played after the devs have been paid :p. That's all that matters ;).
